My camera isn't the best; it's hard to capture the super-dark red and rich camel colors, but here's the progress we've made in the office.

Matt, left, and Kurt have been very busy.

The blue tape marks the studs. The plaster is made from metal mesh-reinforced concrete; regular stud finders don't work here.

They built in the right side of the closet to make the opening 60" wide. We picked up the by-pass hardware and two doors for the closet today. The black pipe against the back closet wall is part of the basement plumbing, so it has to stay. :(

This color is almost "true," although the ceiling isn't darker on the left side, the "Spool" color is richer, and the "Picnic Table" red is darker IRL.

We'll have a real light fixture, eventually, too!

Working on the fiddly, "almost 45-degree" door wall. Corner blocks won't fit here. Picture rail trim will cover the line between the red and spool paint. The entry door has now been removed and painted the same color as the crown.

I thought it would look good in the "Spool" color, but DH wanted to try the Lemon Chiffon (trim color) first. We have plenty of paint, so we can always darken it if we need to.

Again, the colors are much deeper and richer IRL; the ceiling is the same color as the upper walls. This shows the window trim; I absolutly love it.

I want to thank everyone that offered ideas and helped with the original photoshopping.

Caroline, I love the details in the woodwork! The woodwork around your window is the same around the entrances to our living room, dining room, and family room. I love it!

Love the colour combo! What type of work will you be doing in your office? When the guys are done I could use the help to tidy up this place!

@apple_pie_order We will likely do the laundry room/guest bathroom renovation before we do the blue bathroom for my mother. That way, when we do start working on Mom's bathroom, there will be one she can use. I need to clean up my room. It's got too much junk in the way for her to easily get to the bathroom. My brother using my bathroom is short-term, but I eventually want to add some shelves, possibly cabinets, etc for more storage. I want to have storage for toilet paper, wet wipes, tissues, etc. It's so nice to be able to take a shower whenever I want instead of having to drive over to my friend's house and hope no one is doing laundry or having people wanting to come in to use the bathroom while I'm showering (friend only has the one bathroom). I made a To Do list for the bathroom (in no particular order) Remove tools & junk-- find storage for them Clean up floor & counter Install robe hook Move or trim peg on board with pegs that interfere with door Fix cut joist under the tub Cut access panel under tub from closet Change out overflow & drain for tub Replace faucet & lavatory drain Replace S-trap with either in-wall vent stack or AAV Open up wall behind toilet to examine any pipes (possibly merge tub vent) Sand & paint vanity Install new hinges & pulls on vanity + magnets to help doors stay shut Sand & paint dresser Install new knobs on dresser Sand & paint door Put mirror on door Sand & paint rough wood trim all around room (door, window, ceiling, etc) Replace trim on vanity with pvc cove moulding Install beadboard, chair rail, and baseboards Replace triple toggle switch with new 20Amp triple rocker switch Replace old GFCI with new Add light switch next to GFCI for vanity light Install vanity light Install light over shower Install bracket to hold mop and broom Build new mirror frame & install new mirror above vanity Figure out some storage for bath slippers It seems like a long list, but hopefully it won't be so bad. Oh Leslie, you made me laugh! I think I'm a glutton for punishment. Actually this house has become a "making lemonade out of lemons" challenge. It's been one big problem after another, all unexpected, and now we're trying to play catch-up. Time, energy, money; it's demanding everything. We thought all we'd have to spend extra effort on was the kitchen. Boy were we wrong. This room, and the one next too it, are actually the least labor intensive of everything we're doing. We're going to be able to complete them ourselves, except for the little assistance we had from the electrician. I have a couple tiny streaks to touch up in the red corners and the office walls are finished! Today we've began painting in the "Sewing Room." Wes is priming the ceiling right now. This room will be light and airy; it has two windows, the walls will be a paler mix of Lavender Ice and the ceiling will be Lemon Freeze. Think a room inside an Easter Egg!

WOW someone thought of me and a blog?! I'm quite flattered! It would be lovely to be able to do that but computers and I really do not get along on most levels. At least mine at home. Red - don't you think that massive picture would be just awesome behind my desk!!!!!!!!! It'd be almost like my own window on Paris! Over the wknd I got some more pics hung up in the office and I have to say I am really, really loving it. I know that that having so many pictures covering almost every sq. inch of wall space and horizontal surface is a realtors nightmare and most people would probably say - nope that's too much or what is she thinking, but I just love it! Every picture has a story behind it (even if I don't know who the person is or I haven't been to that place yet). My walls are like a visual library for me and I can't wait until the tiniest detail is done to show you all! This wknd I hope to get my floating shelves up on the wall beside my desk. I'm going to try and find my old mason jars and load them up w/ my pencils and other desk stuff as well as give DS1 a place to keep his collections of rocks and marbles out of reach of the younger ones. Yesterday afternoon I laid down on my kids car map rug in the office while the baby played(I was so tired). I looked around and it was soooooo peaceful and warm and family like.

It's looking good...bet you can't wait.

The wood trim is almost like mine...but our is med. oak and the corner pieces have a flower shape in them. And if I remember right you said you have 3 inch trim. I wish I would have gotten 3 inch. But at the time I wanted it to look like the old homes (it is 4 in.)....it was a mistake. it makes the windows look too big. But it was too expensive to start over. Shoot we can't even finish..lol.

I'm so envious that you are steadily getting it done.

And you have good ideas for color and all.

I love it!!!!!! These are my favorite colors, too. I have a dark red wall in my living room and have had tons of compliments on it. I was not sure at the time but my daughter talked me into it. So glad I did... I have had it a long time and never get tired of it.. I am sure you will love it for years to come.. Enjoy!!!!!

Thanks gals, and "Happy Mother's Day" to all of you! I'm not a Mom, but Harry gave me a big ole slurp anyway.

Patti, I wanted to go with the 4-, or even 5-inch, window trim and 5-inch crown, but the carpenters thought it would be "too much." My rooms are small and very plain; the ceilings are 8-ft. I'm so happy with how this turned out.

The rosettes are 3 3/4" square. The door plinths are 3 3/4 x 8 1/2. The fluting is 3 1/2".

I think the trim has a nice "presence" in the room. It's all maple, except for the popular ceiling blocks and the pine crown pieces. The carpenter used long crown boards, each length of wall has one piece of crown, no patches of pieces. I makes for a very smooth look.

The trim is a creamier color than it appears to be here. It's not "white" except in the lavender sewing room.

Ooops, sorry McPeg, I didn't answer your question.

This is going to be a comination of an office / den / reading / dressing room. Multitasking.

The corner to the right of the window will have a corner computer desk, without a hutch. I've decided hutches are just clutter catchers.

The corner to the left of the closet will have a recliner, or futon, or chaise lounge of some sort with a small end table and lamp. The wall between the window and closet will have a tall bookcase, and there may, or may not, be a colorful room size rug on the floor.

The room has the original oak flooring; the closet, which has only a plywood floor now, will have vinyl tiles for easy cleaning. There's an oak threshold there.

The big closet will be Wes' for his work and home clothes. His hunting clothes (let's not go there, LOL) are in the basement. The right side of the closet has a recess of about 14 inches. It will have floor-to-ceiling wire shelves, about 28" wide, for office supplies and the file cabinet will be there, too. The rest of the closet will be organized with shelves, cubbies, and hanging bars for his clothes.

The window is going to have a plain, flat, roller or Roman blind set inside the window frame.

This room is next to the bathroom and it's far more convenient for him to dress here after showering. Our bedroom has one tiny closet and it will be mine, all mine! LOL
