Just MHO, but fixing a 7 year old tv of any brand would not be first on my list of things to do. You've already got your moneys worth out of it and even if you do get it fixed, you'll still have a 7 year old tv ready to break down for another reason. I don't know what your needs are, but you can surely find a decent 32" LCD for probably less than $400. Do some shopping before you decide to fix the old one.

I can't compare the two services for you but I'd suspect that they are much the same. I don't know about AT&T but I heard that Verizon won't let you go back to copper once you make the switch to fiber. The one big advantage of POTS (that's Plain Old Telephone Service) is that the phone usually works during a power outage. With fiber the phone only works as long as the batteries hold up.

I go crazy trying to find something on the radio in the evenings. During baseball and football seasons I can't even get Milt Rosenberg's show on WGN. I can't understand the appeal of having dozens of sports talk programs all day and all night. The polarizing radio talk hosts are disgusting, thinly-disguised rabble-rousers. I'm also not always interested in what's being broadcast on the FM fine arts program. Neither DH nor I watch any commercial TV except news and weather. We do record some PBS programs, and the DVD player gets lots of use. Our Chicago Tribune declined to barely worth reading, but is staging something of a comeback as far as content. Finances are another story. I'm sure we'll all be getting our 'print' online before long.

Ha! We dumped cable, too! Also got rid of the landline, but kept internet. We kept our home phone number on the new iPhone that we got to use for the house. Used an antenna with the tv, but decided to go ahead and get a new Smart tv. We have one already, but it is older and not quite like these new ones. We got a Samsung 50" 4K Ultra from Crutchfield on sale at a very good price. We can stream tv shows and movies through Amazon Prime, netflix, etc. and still get the local channels with the antenna. Our son also gave us Chromecast. It is a small media streaming device that we can use with our iPhones, Mac, or iPad to stream right to the tv. Being a techno-idiot, I only know that because it says so on the box. ð³ I think we are going to attach it to the old Sharp Aquos (sort of a first generation Smart tv, I think). I am thinking we may get a new Samsung 42" or so one for the kitchen/keeping room after the holidays. I suspect the non-4K Ultra HD tvs will go on sale at a huge price reduction once everyone decides they want the newer ones and I don't really care whether we have the superduper new-fangled HD or not.
