Sink the pot into a pail of water to the top of the soil for 10 mins. or so and let it drain well afterward. BTW, you are always free to post a new thread, which might have been less complicated.

I agree. Isolate the plant, ditch the medium, or cook it in the oven. Wash the plant (I have used liquid dish detergent and temperate water) and treat. Don't be shy about submerging the plant for awhile as drowning is a great cure. Do not re-pot yet. Place in a pre-soaked terracotta pot with NO medium to harbor the boogers, the smallest that will fit the plant, so that the roots are bumping against walls...and then place on pebbles with water. The clay should barely make contact with the water (to give off humidity). Spray x2 daily. You can put your regular fert in your spray bottle. Keep up the water level in the pebble tray so that the clay breathes water but no water should be in the pot. You may ask, "Why not just put the pot in water" Well, my unscientific, experiential answer is that the pebble tray enhances the general humidity around the plant. I could be wrong here. Anyway, treat the plant one, or better, two more times over the course of 10-14 days. Repeat the soap treatment too and wash your pebbles and pot with soap and hot water. Since your plant will be out of medium for a few weeks pay attention to keeping the terracotta moist and the humidity up. I would assume the violets have them (if they were not the source). They cannot handle the same tx (treatment). That's more complicated. Don't toss your old friend. She sounds worth saving.

An 'overpopulation' wouldn't be there long. They would move on to adequate food. When it's gone at your house, they will find another garden. I agree you are overreacting. Just enjoy them, thank them for removing whatever bug might cause you trouble later, they aren't hurting anything. If you're lucky, maybe a pair or two will stick around and nest there. When I've had chickadees nesting in my yard, I'm amazing at how many times during the day they will go to the nest with chicks, carrying caterpillar/worm/larval type things....and likely each one of those components of the multiple daily meals would be otherwise feasting on leaves of my plants.

CP-- Our engineered hardwood was installed in 2007, so products may have improved. It was also installed floating, so that may have contributed to problems. After 7 years with it, there was raised wood grain around the dog's water dish, the fridge water dispenser and the dishwasher/sink even though I learned to just keep a cloth handy to quickly wipe up drips. Even though we're shoe-free we still ended up with scratches because of our dog, kids playing and probably my husband and I dropping stuff. I also think it would be nice to just steam mop tile floors since you can't steam mop engineered. That house went into contract in a few hours and closed in three weeks, so the floor probably wasn't an obvious problem to the woman who bought it. Thank goodness:-) I might be picky. If joint fatigue and pain is a possibility at all, I would avoid tile. That's a good tip.
