How about Hilary Swank? I tried to find a picture with shorter hair, but I think she could look the part. Do you? And she's a good actress.

Is there talk of a movie?

Hillary Swank won an Oscar for her role in "Boys Don't Cry" and she had very short hair as a 'boy'.

I had to Google Lt. Eve Dallas and saw Angie Harmon mentioned in this role; however, she sure isn't the actress Swank is.

Question for you book fans: Must you read this series in order written, or just pick a book and go?

Yes DeeMarie Jen Donna Tikanas (it usually does not take that long Besh!) Patti Marci - it came today! Besh (it didn't take that long Tikanas!) Raeanne - it came today! No NH Suzanne I can't imagine that Maddie would forget, as she is the top chief/liaison/organizer/coordinator/get-it-together and fly girl. Dee - I am sure you could tell Rich a few things, so my lips are sealed. Besh - enjoy your well deserved time off. Tikanis - I agree with not working out while sick. I missed working out so much that I think I rushed it. NH Suzanne - I loved the photos, thanks. Marci - enjoy your time off. Sounds like you might have your hands full this year. Jen - I received the package today. Now I can't wait to open it LOL. I will wait to see if we hear from Suzanne or Maddie about opening up, but now that MY package has arrived I'm not making any promises LOL.

What's she waiting for anyway? In my family and with most other families that I know the place, time, and menu for a Christmas Eve or Christmas Day dinner is planned weeks ahead. That is so that everyone is notified/invited and all cooks know what the game plan is and what they are to provide. Also, so the hosts can set their tables for the number coming or get in extra chairs, ice, china, etc. This meal requires a little more than just throwing some extra burgers or hot dogs on the grill like you would for a casual outdoor cookout in the summer. Even if you don't do "formal" dinners, you still need to be able to plan this meal so you are not rushed and harried. Is she subtly playing a control card with this?

I made these last year and although it sounds like an unusual combination of ingredients, after people tried them, they didn't last long. SAVORY DATE RUGELACH Â makes 4 dozen 1 cup butter (2 sticks), softened 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened 2 cups all-purpose flour 1/2 tsp salt 1 1/2 cups walnuts, divided 4 oz. blue cheese, cut into cubes 48 pitted dates (about 12 oz.) 1 large egg white 1 tsp. water Dough: In large bowl, with mixer at medium speed, beat butter and cream cheese until creamy. Stir in flour and salt just until blended (or use mixer on low speed). Divide dough into 4 equal pieces; flatten each into a disk. Wrap each in plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight. Filling: In food processor with knife blade attached, pulse Â½ cup walnuts until finely chopped; reserve in small bowl. In same food processor, pulse blue cheese and remaining 1 cup of walnuts 7 to 8 times or until a coarse mixture forms. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line 2 large cookie sheets with foil; grease foil. (I used parchment paper.) On floured surface with floured rolling pin, roll 1 disk of dough into a 10-inch round. Cut into 12 equal wedges. Beginning 1 inch from outside edge, sprinkle 1/2 cup blue cheese mixture in 2 Âinch wide ring on dough, leaving dough exposed in center. Place one whole date crosswise on wide end of each wedge. Starting at wide end, roll up each wedge, jelly-roll fashion. Place rugelach, 1 inch apart, on cookie sheets, point side down. Repeat with remaining four dough disks. In small bowl, beat egg white and water. Brush rolls with egg white and sprinkle with reserved walnuts. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until golden, rotating sheets between upper and lower racks halfway through baking. Let stand for a minute or two and then transfer to wire racks to cool. Store in a tightly covered container at room temperature up to 3 days. To make ahead: Arrange unbaked rugelach in single layer in jelly roll pan; cover and freeze until firm. Remove from pan and place in freezer containers with waxed paper in between each layer. Seal and freeze up to 3 months. About 45 minutes before serving, preheat oven to 350. Line 2 large cookie sheets with foil; grease foil. Arrange frozen rugelach on prepared cookie sheets and bake 35 to 40 minutes or until golden.

Back in the good old days, we always had a NYE party, either at our house or at a friend's. It was always the same "social circle" of friends. Played games, had great food, no alcohol. Stayed up to watch the ball drop, get our kiss, and sing Auld Lang Syne. Five of that group have passed on now, and most of us remaining have health problems of some kind. So I will be home alone, but I am a night person and always stay up to watch the ball drop. Earlier in the day I will be making Black-Eyed Pea soup. Gotta have BEPs for New Year's Day. I was given the recipe last year by a new friend and I really like it. Makes a lot, so I put some in containers in the freezer for later. Sue

I think Cote de Pablo would be great in the role. She plays Ziva David on NCIS.

I would try to read them in some kind of order, just so the progression of characters makes sense.

I just found the first 3 in a large PaperBack on the
sale table at Barnes & Noble (In Death - The First
Cases).

I haven't started it yet, but I remembered seeing here
how much you liked them, so I picked it up when I saw
it.

There is a blurb on the back that says, "Entertainment
Weekly has praised J.D. Robb's In Death novels as
"Law and Order:SVU - in the future". Sounds like
I will like them.

I agree that you should read them in order, if possible. But it might not be possible if you're frugal like me. :-)

I haven't actually read one yet; they've all been audio books (from the library). I started with one from the middle of the series, and then downloaded the first few. Now I'm at an impasse......the library seems to have run out of them, and I've worked my way through all the downloadables. So I'm going to have to (gasp!) buy the next one. If I do, I'll get serious about acquiring them in order.

JD Robb's website lists them all in order--although the list stops in 2007 and I'm pretty sure she's been turning them out regularly since then. She's an amazingly productive writer!

Molly, I sure hope you like them. The rest of us will feel responsible if you don't. :-)

My DD has been getting talking books for me at the library and Memory In Death was one she got me two weeks ago. I really liked it but I wish I could fast forward the steamy parts. I hope she will get me more to read but I doubt she will be able to get them in order.

I've never been able to find the very first one where Eve and Roarke meet for the first time. It was borrowed from our library system years ago, and never returned.

I've also missed reading the last few recent ones. I'll have to get back at it. I like reading about her flamboyant friend's escapades as well. Kind of like a Cyndi Lauper look.

I think it's good to read them in order...

Hillary would be great as Eve...I always have pictured her as a young Debbie Allen from the show "Fame"...I still want Branscomb Richmond for Roark...
