Is that the one in the center of the addition? Bottom right of the front door? If so, that's probably brighter than I would go. Is the one on the left of the addition also the one in the center right on the house? That one is probably my favorite, but the lighter gray on the right of the house would look good too -- and probably either of the ones to the left of the front door. It's hard to see those very well.

I know, they are hard to see. I was hoping someone would just have suggestions. On the addition, from left to right, top is BM smokestack gray, bottom is SW Serious Gray. Left of the gutter is BM Brewster Gray, right of the gutter is Anchor's Away. Right is SW Anonymous.

Bottom right of the front door is SW Meditative, which we have ruled out as too bright and too blue. Above that is SW Serious Gray.

I like the color on the top right of the main house. Still looks blue, but not too much, and also looks different from the neighbor's house.

I tried to put a red rectangle around the one I like. a bit more grey/blue I think. I think if the whole house was done this color it would be lovely.

My eye went to the color you outlined, it's soft and pleasant. I actually like the original paint the best.

What is the wood colored building in the foreground - the garage? For a blue gray that is not "loud," I like the one on the far right of that building.

I was trying to tell if that was two colors in the center of the addition. Brewster Grey seems a bit too bright, especially if you are not wanting it to go too blue. It seems as blue as the one by the door you ruled out but with a little green -- not so much grey on my screen. Anchors Away would seem better to me, but definitely looking blue. If you want more grey, the top two under the dormer window on the house (the one with the red box around it and the one below it) look to me like what you are describing wanting. The two on the left of the addition are darker variations.

What color are you thinking about for the door? That might make a difference how dark I'd go.

Thank you for the replies. The one with the redline around it is Earl Grey, which really doesn't seem to have any blue at all in it. Just plain gray.

Lascatx, the two in the center of the addition (left and right of gutter) are brewster gray (on the left) and anchor's away (on the right). Brewster Gray is also to the top left of the front door, but is hard to see.

Anchor's away reads to light purple to me.

Everything is either too blue or too purple or too gray. I can't find that perfect hue.

I'm not seeing the purple. You are really going to have to work with what you can see in person. Do you have a good friend or two with a good eye for color? Maybe they can give you their thoughts?

Deb, the far right color on the new garage or wing in the foreground is also my favorite, but it looks very much like the color on the neighbor's house to the right.

Kitten, even though you have good-sized samples of color on your house, remember that when the entire house is painted it will have much more of the hue color than it does when looking at snippets of several colors at once. Some of those colors will look much bluer in isolation from the others.

I've also noticed that some people see purple where others simply do not....I am one of those. I see purple undertones where others --- who have good color sense--- say don't exist. I can only conclude that some of us really do "see" things differently and if it looks purple to YOU, then for you--- it really IS purple. Iykwim.

I have to say how much i love your house! The addition looks great with it, also! It would be great if someone who has already chosen a beautiful gray/blue could come along and see your post, and give you their awesome paint color. Can't wait to see it all done :)

Our house used to be BM Normandy. It is a blue grey that goes very well with historic bldgs. We changed ours, but it is still a nice colour, just not my thing anymore. Last summer someone said that they had noticed that for about 10 years everyone was painting their house blue grey - maybe it was just seeing too much of it that put me off. I also like the colour on the far right of the garage.

Lake girl, thank you so much for the compliment! The addition had me very nervous - it's hard to make such a huge change that's very "in your face". I'm hoping once the whole thing is painted that the house has a more cohesive look, although I imagine the addition will never fully blend. I agree it would be great if someone (like Daisychain did) could share their successful blue/gray experiences.

Daisychain, that Normandy looks wonderful! I wonder why I didn't come across it earlier in my searches. Maybe because it is less blue than most of what I have looked at, but now I'm realizing that less blue might be what I need. The color on the far right is SW Anonymous. That's my husband's fave. It is alternately described by us and people who have seen it as: that dark gray, that green, that brown color.
