Sure. I buy those when its something I want or like. For example, I happen to like Piggly Wiggly's brand of instant coffee. Its a good blend.

Mostly I have my favorites. I can't imagine buying anything but Heinz ketchup or Hellman's mayo but sometimes I will buy a store brand veggie.. We prefer Costco tuna fish to any of the others. so, it depends on what I'm buying.

I use a lot of WalMart brand items. Since we live in the woods, and no Sunday Paper with coupons and none of our stores double coupons, it just doesn't pay to buy name brands any more.. I spend about $100 per month for groceries, including pet food.. but there is just me, and I have tons of goodies in my freezer from last years garden.

It depends on the product. Many are the same product as branded items, produced by the same manufacturer. Some are "watered down" versions of the branded line, and with fruits and vegetables, can be the produce that was the "wrong size"- too big or too small, slightly wrong colour, odd shape, whatever, that doesn't mean the item will taste different, just not have the premium appearance required by branded products.
But, I never buy store brand detergents (soap is OK) because the ones I have bought were so weak you had to use a lot more to get the same effect as a smaller amount of the branded product. To me that's no saving and even a little counterproductive as you have to purchase more containers and lug them home and store them.

I buy store brands at the grocery stores whenever possible. Usually they are better and cheaper that the name brands. I really haven't found any that were really bad.

It depends. I do mostly buy store brands when they are available. But, I also have a few favorite name brands. Miracle Whip, Quaker Oats, Northern or Charmin Toilet Paper, Puffs tissues. Those are the only ones I can think of at the moment. I did buy one store brand of rolled oats once, that was just awful. I finally used them up in cookies, but have never bought any other then Quaker Oats since. Before that, I'd bought other rolled oat store brands that were ok, but that one off brand soured me.

Regularly. DH likes the store-brand peanut butter as much as name brand. We don't buy Heinz ketchup.....it's mostly used in barbecue sauces, so makes no difference.
Vinegar, soy sauces, veggies, pasta,even lard and shortening, I buy the store brands.
It has to be Campbell's soup. We like vegetable and tomato to eat, but mushroom is strictly for my scalloped potatoes, so it could be any brand.

I work for a store that has it's own brand. And YES, I use all store brand items. Vitamins, toilet paper, facial tissue, canned vegetables and soups. You name it. I'm not a huge fan of our stores brand of "Pine-Sol", I prefer name brand there, same with ketchup. Must be Heinz. We have SuperStore in Canada. The Presidents Choice brand is excellent and sometimes superior to brand name. My kids prefer generic cereal over name brand as well. As will Jasdip, there are some soups that must be Campbells: Mushroom soup is one of them for me. Otherwise, it doesn't matter to me. I rarely if ever buy canned soup anyways.

It depends for me also. I have found Walmart store brands are fine. We have a Super Value (mediocre) grocery store in our area and they have their store brand, and what I have tried, I have found lacking, especially their cold cereal. I have tried a couple, because they cost so much less than the sinfully over-priced, name brands, but they all have a kind of skunky after taste.

On MOST items the store brands are just fine and I do purchase them. On certain things, like mayonnaise and soft drinks, I'm picky and prefer the major brands. One thing I've noticed about the canned store brand green beans is that they have more stems still attached to the bean. But the price is so much better, I'm willing to pick out the one or two stems, LOL.

When I said I buy store brands I did not mean food. I tried store brand food when I was a young person but always came back to brands. It's only non food store brands that I buy.

Absolutely, and it saves me a lot of money!

The only one that I won't do again was mouthwash...it looked exactly like the name brand that I liked, but it tasted awful.

When in CA is bought Ralphs/Albertsons brands without a problem but here depends on products. Most I buy name brands because of the quality. Also I try to watch ingredients. For example, Good Value, (WM brand) dried spaghetti sauce is flavored with beet juice, no dried tomatoes in the mix, other mixes have way too many chemicals with very little true dried flavors, especially the gravies.

My cupboards will show that I do a mix of brand name/store brand. One thing I've learned though is to really watch the prices as there are times the store brand sneaks up their prices so that it's little or no savings. I guess that's where buyer beware is essential.

if they made the things we like, i would...but for instance, i like the heart smart spaghetti sauce...havn't seen a generic version...

did try and liked target's foamy handsoap, so bought the refill bottle...

tried a generic diaper for dgs but that was terrible...he's back to huggie's allergy version...

Just depends on what it is and what store. I find the Sam's Choice at Walmart is better than the Great Value. Some of the Great Value items are fine. Others not so much.

At Kroger the Private Selection is very good but I'm not fond of the Kroger brand.

The things I've bought in the Publix Brand has usually been good. Their Green Wise Brand is good.

I do in many cases, still have some faves that I have to buy in name brand. I also buy a lot of stuff at Dollar stores now even canned food items, some name brand some generic and have found them much cheaper, some I like even better than the name brands. Can buy the same brand cleaning products for much less there. Definitely worth going there once a month or so to pick up those items. Same with Big Lots.

I prefer Publix brand over name brand on lots of items. It's interesting so many of you are particular about mayonnaise. I am, too. We went shopping today and I couldn't believe mayonnaise was over $5 a jar. When the heck did that happen. I was tempted to try the Publix brand but decided to wait for a BOGO (which they had last week, darn it).

My favorite Publix cranberry sauce (better than Ocean Spray IMHO), used to cost 85 cents. Now it's $1.29. So even the store brand prices are going up a lot.

Yes, I do buy some store brands, but in a few cases, I still buy some favorite brands such as Del Monte fruits. I remember reading an article years ago about store brand breakfast cereals, and the article reported that many of the store brand cereals are made by the big cereal companies. Then they slap a store label on it, so the upshot of the article was to encourage buying store brand cereals.

Patti, that Mayo BOGO last week was just for the little squeeze jar of Mayo. They have the regular on BOGO very often so you shouldn't have to wait long. I personally think Mayo is Mayo. But I do have to have Heinz Ketchup. Don't like Hunts. I think it's sweeter or something.

I used to be a Heinz ketchup snob but no more. One of our tastes have changed, whether it's Heinz or mine. I'll buy generic before Heinz now unless Heinz is much cheaper. And I don't use much ketchup anymore anyway so it doesn't make a difference. I tend to use BBQ sauce or steak sauce where I used to use ketchup and I have never been one to bury things in ketchup anyway. I mentioned to a few people I know that I didn't like Heinz anymore and they said basically they found the same thing. And then I saw America's Test Kitchen did a couple taste tests and the perennial victor, Heinz, lost the last couple times to Hunt's. Guess I'm not the only one who doesn't like it anymore. It's also interesting that Hunt's is cashing in on the corn syrup paranoia. I've been meaning to see what sales impact if any they can attribute to that aspect.

For most other things I always look at store brand/generic first, then compare to name brand. There's one where I find real superiority and that's Green Giant canned vegetables. But the price is *so* much higher usually that it's not worth it to me. Occasionally though they'll go on sale if I happen to catch it. But I don't buy as much canned veg anymore either. Using more fresh and frozen. Although I still prefer canned corn to frozen.

Most household cleaners however I seldom find store brand to be adequate. There I look for clearance, coupons and sales and that's quite often. Dish soap is Dawn or Joy only. I don't waste my time with anything else unless I use it for hand soap. I've bought the store brand "Magic Erasers" and they seem OK. Generic laundry detergents seldom do the job on real dirty stuff unless I doctor it up and that increases the cost so I might as well just use Tide Free. Bleach is bleach, baking soda is baking soda and all aspirin are alike to me.

Speaking of aspirin, I found it interesting that the Target I was in this week only carries Bayer aspirin. No store brand anymore. And 100 count bottle was over $9! No way. I stopped at a Walgreens a day or two later and 100 count bottles were $1 each. Now for a quick rant: Since when did people become so stupid they'll pay $7 for 50 count of "low dose" aspirin? A female friend of mine is on that and I said why don't you just bite a regular aspirin in half and toss the remainder? Net cost of a penny per dose rather than 12¢-14¢ per dose. And since it's daily, it'll start to add up. $45-$50/yr savings there and if she cut them in half and used both halves you double the savings. End of rant.

I am shopping Aldi more and more so there you get mostly store brands. For the most part they're just fine and usually much cheaper (but know your prices - they're not always cheaper).

Paper products vary. Lately I've done well getting paper towels on clearance and put a $1 off coupon on it and have better product cheaper. I buy paper plates at Aldi. They're fine. Toilet paper? I used to be a Charmin snob but then for a while it was so dusty I quit, especially when the price went up. Now I usually buy the 1000 sheet rolls, usually Scott because they're so much cheaper than anything else and I'm pleased with the product. I buy them at about 25¢ - 50¢ per roll. That equates to about 5-7 rolls of any other brand. Won't find it any cheaper and it all goes down the toilet anyway.

I haven't found store brand deodorants to work as well as name brand and with clearance and coupons I usually buy good brand names for under $1. I like foaming hand soap and the store brand is fine but there too I watch for clearance and it can be cheaper.

With any of them you have to try them and see what you like or don't like. But you also have to be a savvy shopper because they're not always cheaper. Know your prices and compare sizes too. Size of items is ever-changing.
