12 years ago

I married the love of my life.We like everyone else have had our ups and downs but we worked through them and here we are 56 years,4 kids,6 grands and 5 great grands later,who'd a thunk it??.Who could ask for anything more.

We are blessed for sure.

A happy memory, sheilajoyce! Our DIL is the youngest of three girls. Both her sisters had girls. She -- and her mother -- were dumbfounded to have a boy. (I would have been amazed if the baby had been a girl; DS' birth family had *only* boys, including him.) DS and DIL did have their girl, but not until six years later. We are so lucky to have 'one of each' as grandchildren.

Gargamel: They are original wood cabinets that I painted. I would never do that again! UGH. Thank you for your response. eedeegan: I had never thought of black hardware! That's a good idea. I love the counters. This particular slab had that large black spot, whereas normally they color is more uniform. I just happened to like that "quirk".

Yeh, you have issues that need to be dealt with. For starters, it appears that the addition is just sitting on the top of a 4x4? post and isn't tied to the post in any way. The post is splitting; the the add-on is trying to wiggle itself off of the post or the post is trying to wiggle out from under the load. Probably both. I see a remedial effort to tie the rim joist to the post with a wimpy little strap of sheet metal that is just nailed on. Forces of nature are giddy w/ that attempt. The corner brace in the 2nd & third photos would not do much in the best case scenario. Looks like it is nailed to only one one joist so it's doing exactly nothing. Just a homeowner here. Not a structural engineer but I see enough to know that you have Concerns and need to get some pros on site to evaluate sooner rather than later.

Yea that was great, and totally unexpected. It's rare to experience a couple inches of thick wet snow this far south. Pretty much all the snow came down in a 1 hour window around 8:00 Thursday night, and stuck around til sunrise. The following year (2018) we had an early cold blast mid-November that lasted several days and did more damage than that snow day. The lawn turned yellow much earlier than usual but I was able to protect the plants and keep them going longer. Thank goodness for hi-tech weather forecasting, we know in advance what temps & winds to expect.

Congratulations! DH and I celebrated 60 years a couple of weeks ago; it is just too amazing that the years have gone by so quickly.
