semi-inground pool backfill question

thinkcdman

Hello, I just replaced my 24 foot round above-ground-style

pool with a new one. The pool is on a hill and therefore

semi-inground - one side is above ground, the other side

only has about a foot and a half out of the ground.

The new installer didn't backfill around the pool and said

I should install plywood around the inground portion before doing so,

which the previous pool didn't have but I think is a good idea now. My questions are: do I install the plywood to span

the support beams (e.g. distributing the pressure of the ground onto the support beams rather than the steel sides)?

I think that makes the most sense, since if I just installed it against the pool and backfilled with dirt on both sides it doesn't seem to me that it would offer much protection?

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Bill
