What is THAT?

Nevermind. I looked it up. It is a house centipede.

Here is a link that might be useful: House Centipede

I hate them, when spring comes.

Scutigera coleoptrata
(Scutigeromorpha: Scutigeridae

Yikes - that's a crazy looking bug!

They come with spring. See them mostly in the bathtub. or on the wall.

hate those things

wish I knew how to rid of them

AAGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

We have them too, in the spring - until I spray my Ortho stuff. I spray all baseboards & around the basement. I also spray outside. Those things are FAST - and they'll bite, btw.

a mixture of boric acid and white sugar will feed them...they take it back home with them--kills the nest

be sure to place it where no other animals can get into it

House centipede. Nasty looking, but rather harmless. They love to hide out in cracks and under carpets. If you do not have many, just swat and send down the drain or to the trash. They are uncomfortable when exposed to light and will scurry to hide when a human or animal appears.

That's right up there in 'ickiness' with our palmetto bugs - ewwwwwwwww!

If I saw one of those in my house, I'd be moved by midnight. Ick!

We have had them. They move much quicker than I do. My cats are no help in catching them either. Major ick factor. Fortunately haven't seen any this year.

Saw a few last spring. Yuck! Have not seen any this year so far.

Great shot, BTW!!!

This is going to sound so strange, but my kids are "gooing" and "awwwing" over your Spider Scorpion (which is what they're called here). We LOVE these things! They eat the bad spiders like Black Widows and keep our Orb Weavers at bay. They are so graceful when they run and have the cutest eyes! LOL! I don't necessarily want them in the house, but when I see them outside I am glad!

Blessings,
Haley

Does your complex do any community, extermination spraying? If not, get an Ortho spray that specifies- centipedes. Spray around doors, inside and outside, bathroom windows, if you can.
And,around the perimeter of your place.

Be glad you don't have "tent caterpillars" that fall from trees you may be standing under! That's creepy.

I had spiders, crickets another specie or two in my last house. I discussed it with my exterminator, he said bugs love card board boxes they nest in the corrugated tunnels and spiders can't live without their webs. I don't use poisons except termite treatment so I got rid of most my boxed stuff and got rubber maid for things I could not part with...which turned out to be very little. As for spiders, I moved everything and vacuumed twice a month. Cut the problem 95%. I rarely see anything in this house. When I do it is usually inside the window. I did put down boric acid when I moved in.

Don't have cardboard boxes.

I attribute the ones I have from living in the woods.

Only see them in my bathroom, sometimes on the wall in my bedroom, but mainly my bathroom. And during the warm season.

House centipedes are pretty harmless, though I totally agree about them being unwelcome in the house. Forget about the sugar bait idea...they are predators (feeding on other little critters) and won't come to a sugar bait.

You might consider purchasing some boric acid or horticultural diatomaceous earth to sprinkle under the sink cabinets, in closets, etc. House centipedes are very fragile and products that work by dessication can be especially effective.

I find them in my home in the spring, too.

OMG! Never saw that before, and I'm glad I haven't. We've got enough weird looking critters down south as it is.

I don't like them either, Glenda, but I have to compliment the photo! They are after a meal, as Rhizo1 says, they are carnivores and usually want to be near moisture, is there any dampness?

Dampness only in my bathtub after I bathe!

That's NOT my photo, I found it and downloaded it to photobucket.

Ewwwww! Please remind me of the area of the country you live in - I'm not goin' there if you've got those things! Kidding - sort of. Um, kinda. I've really got the heeby-jeebies, now.

How big are they? Hard to tell from the photo. 1/2"? 1"? Please don't tell me they're any bigger than that.

The ones we have (in the Midwest - Missouri) are up to 3" long. And they DO bite - my cats are testament to that, as is my hubby.

The area of the country doesn't make any difference. I have lived or visited in states from Washington to The Northeast and Southern Florida and I guarantee you, each and every place had it's critters.

Here we have plenty of things worse than that..Try scorpions that love love love to come out of hiding when it starts warming up. There is a running joke here about the kids coming and trying to shower with the spiders.......There is a family of spiders in the drain in the guest bathroom.

I haven't seen many snakes in my area but since I live in the country, I know they are around.....

An exterminator told me once that ANY bug that is attracted to water? Pour some vegetable oil around the drain of your tub & bathroom sink, when not in use. It becomes slippery & the bugger can't get up out of the drain!

We have them here in VA too (didn't I just say that about Chick-fil-a? LOL) anyway, yes they are nasty and gross!! And they move fast!! Must be all those little legs! We hate them too Glenda! Gives me the heebie jeebies when I see one!

We have these but very few...Here in SW. Pa., we are infested with those nasty "stink bugs"....There is a big name for them, Brown marm.....something....So far we haven't found anything that gets rid of them and you don't dare kill them because they emit a terrible smell...Best thing to do is flush them in the toilet..The come out with the sun and warmth, really don't do any harm, just smelly and annoying...AND they are driving me crazy!

sunny have you ever eaten a berry that had a stink bug on it? Yuck.........

I could make you feel better and show you what I found in my cat's water dish just now - which is right next to my door. Must be the season.
