Help! White residue won't come off.

We just started up our pool this week, have been unitl last night. We notice whitish patches that don't seem to sweep up. We tested and added muritatic acid as needed. This morning I am scrubbing and scrubbing and it may be a little lighter but is still not coming off very easily. We have a pebble tec type product.

Any suggestions?

if you've been brushhing as advised, then it could be the the chlorine. did you or whoever started the pool up "shock" the pool? you need to use fast dissolve in colored plaster pools or it can bleach the bottom where it settles. that or if it wsn't brushed enough the palster dust can settle and harden. let us know what you find out.

Yes, the pool was shocked but we used liquid chlorine. I'm thinking it is the plaster dust that has hardened. We have been brushing it but one night was lightening when we got home and the white was there the next morning. I worked on it some today and the white spots are lighter but still noticable. Is there any secret in getting the hardened plaster dust up?

Try spitting on the seed coats, that's what I used to do. But since aiming spit at seed coats is not precise, actually I'd take my finger and put it in my mouth ( better then foot in mouth) then swab the saliva on the stuck seed coat. And then leave it on for several hours and then spritz with water. it's the enzymes in the saliva that help and since enzymes work best at warmer rather than cooler temps, don't do it with newly germinated seedings that are kept in a cool place. And then use the usual tweezers or just gentle pressure to remove it. The three reasons I know of for stuck seed coats might include: seeds are too old lack of moisture in the seed germinating container sowing seed too deeply ....and there can be a combination of any of the above three. If the seed coat doesn't open up after about a week, after treatment or without, it's sometimes called a blind seedling and will never grow into a proper plant. Carolyn

COMPILATION OF ALL ADVICE Loosen wheel nuts 1 turn or so ( tie string to the steering wheel to remind you to re-tighten the nuts later.) spray penetrating oil ? everywhere the rim touches the hub/ drum ( or something else better suited to aluminium / steel bonding ? ) rock the car from side to side vigorously, drive the car, over bumps/ kerb if necessary. Chock and Jack up car, in gear, hand brake off if rear rim is stuck, kick all round the rim ( kicking the tyre might break its seal with the rim ? - do you want this ? ), from both sides, rotating the wheel as you go, hammer against a wood block, again all round. I live in Georgia. There is no way she can go after them. It's not possible. They don't have any money and live from job to job and are feeding their families and if you took money from them or got a judgment they could end up in prison if not able to pay and unable to provide for their family. It would not be satisfying. In the end it really just can't be done by us who feel sorry for them and understand these economic times. They usually work for less than a big company. They are not bad people just unfortunate people. There have been times when I have had to adjust my thinking to it being more or less a "donation" not that I can afford it but I can certainly afford it more than they can and have had in the past a better life. When you know the people and have used them before and had no problems with them it's not easy to haul them into court. I am happy that OP is not going that route even though she has been terribly wronged and certainly justified. Sometimes we get our reward in other ways. It's part of life and I am so very sorry this happened and hope that it will come out with some of the remedies presented. If not, I so feel your pain having had similar things happen to me on several occasions. It's no fun being the brunt of carelessness but sometimes the protracted route of going after people just make our stress level even worse and will end up the same anyway with you resolving it yourself. Here's to hoping it will all work out and that the paint will come out or be able to be covered up. I am sick about this for you.

Success!!! I tried almost everything suggested plus the usual soap/ hot water, 50/50 alcohol water etc. It just kept looking worse. Then when a guy was here to relevel the DW I asked if he knew of anything. He had a product in his truck. It was very oily. I had to scrub very hard and leave it on. Within minutes you couldn't see the marks. Hurrah! I think it might have been the cleaner that took off some of the polish. This may have just covered it, IDK, but it's gone & I'm thrilled! blowe,there is not much you can do, sorry to say that is one of the drawbacks to getting colored plaster... it may fade with time as the plaster cures im told... ive gotten used to them, and when its sunny out you cant even see them... the project manager was out to my pool today (my spa blower doesnt work right) and i asked her about the white spots and she said that is just normal with colored plaster... from reading this board i was expecting it so i wasnt really shocked..

So, it is not pebble tec???? Can you post pictures? Or is to hard to photograph?

I do have a pebble tec type finish called Pearl. My contracter says not to worry about it, it is just leaching out from the plaster and it is normal and should even out. I hope he's right cause right now it does not look so good. It only shows up in bright light, and photos probably won't show it because of water reflection. At night it looks perfect. Perhaps I am worrying for nothing, time will tell. And yes I blamed DH first.

I also had to drain the water down a few feet to have some stone work added around the perimeter. When the white stuff is dry it wipes off like white chalk. The contractor said I could use diluted muriatic acid and spray it but that would be a lot of work.
