Ajsmama, you know I never even noticed that the gazebo emphasizes that the sink is off center in the second picture. I guess the perspective on the view outside shifts as one moves about the kitchen, even a little-- the gazebo appears to be to the left of the faucet in the first photo. I guess another reason it has never bothered me is that I don't look at this window straight on from a distance in my layout, and if I'm actually at the sink I'm taking in the whole view of the garden and woods. Like many others here, I was oblivious to my off-center sink for more than a decade until I realized the asymmetry when measuring for new cabinets. I briefly considered using a blind corner cabinet in order to center the sink, but the loss in functionality wasn't worth it to me.

You don't like the peninsula? Someone suggested it in the previous thread, and I thought it was a great idea. People would be able to sit at the counter and chat with whoever's cooking. Also, I could hang a small flat-screen TV on the wall to the left of the range, so the cook can watch cooking videos. And if I use a slightly larger 30" or 36" Ikea base cabinet, I thought I could add some pretty substantial storage space. Do you really think it looks bad? Please don't tell me that tastes/preferences are personal and to go with what I like...I have zero experience with kitchen design, and I've been told that I have bad taste! Thanks, everyone, for your input! Buehl, I thought long and hard about having the d/w and gas range next to each other (with a 1.5" filler/barrier). Actually, it's what I have now because the house came that way, and it's never been an issue. Even with the island in front of the d/w and range, with a 42" aisle, I think it will be okay for my family. I can't think of a time when I'd be cooking and have the dishwasher door open at the same time. Besides, there's another aisle -- which is the primary passageway in, out, and throughout the kitchen -- on the other side of the island. I know it's hard to picture, but I really (embarassingly) do not know how to scan in the layout that I have! I will have to teach myself on another day when I am not so pressured to post a layout. Anyway, close of business has come, and I chose the sink to be centered with the window. So . . . this is how it goes: The total length of the wall is 164.5 inches. There is a 79.5" empty space in the middle of the wall that runs from the end of an upper cabinet on the left to the beginning of the range hood on the right. By "empty space" I mean that there will be no upper cabs there. Anyway, I have now finalized the plan so that the center of the sink is centered in that 79.5" space. I'll buy a window that will be centered over the faucet -- maybe a 60" window. That will leave 9.75" of space on each side of the window, enough for a five-inch trim and 4.75" of wall left over. BTW, I wouldn't mind if the sink had not been centered on the WALL -- I just minded that it wouldn't have been centered with the window. It looked really weird in the picture, kind of like the room was tilted. Anyway, I hope it all looks good AND functions well when it's finished!

mike_lee- Are you saying that you're sure the hole for the sink is not in the center? The point vithdude was making is that, if the hole in the sink was larger than the drain tailpiece you mounted into it, you could have tightened down the basket strainer off-center. If, indeed you know that the hole in the sink is manufactured off-center, then nothing is wrong, other than that you are bothered by the slight mismatch of the grate with the drain. I doubt very much that your sink is any different from all the other ones of that model. That type of sink is typically formed by giant presses where the die shapes are fixed in place and do not depend on the skill of an operator to align anything. I think the tail is wagging the dog on this: you are concerned about a relatively minor asymmetry issue that you wouldn't likely have noticed if you hadn't decided to add the grate. I still don't see that this is worth any kind of radical tear-apart.
