Off-centered sink in 36" vanity?
Comments (4)Just got back from looking at the one Home Depot has on sale. I couldn't find a link to the one we looked at, but it has similar proportions to this one, only it had 3 functioning drawers, and I believe it may have had a molded sink into the top. It was on sale for $399, which included sink, top, cabinet and mirror. I thought it was very good value for someone. But this gives you a look at how the sink will look off-centered. When dealing with tiny vanities, I think every useable inch is a bonus! Here is a link that might be useful: Home Depot 36 inch vanity...See MoreSpiral faucet in off center sink-too much or right?
Comments (4)I saw an episode of House Hunters last night when they were talking about the great sea view and the main view was of a driveway and a garage. Nothing could ruin the view you have there. The tall one is too tall for the size of your sink, too, and would be very distracting, but I think you could get away with the smaller one, depending on what else might be on the counters. Can you line up the faucet with the division between the windows? It wouldn't be dead on from all angles, but if it were from the front, it would be a lot less "down in front"-ish. Or you could think about how to get some of the same function in another way. Any faucet that sticks up is going to bring your eye into the room rather than out to the view. So how about something like the Kohler Hi-Rise (misnomer) side spray. It has a single lever controller for flow and temperature just like a full fledged faucet, with a long pullout hose. Use it as a shorty faucet by itself....See MoreDo you think this looks too 'off center'?
Comments (27)Hi Lass: what I thought for a minute won't work if the table is up with it's extensions and chairs and used a lot..My grandma had a large dining room and one wall had floor to ceiling glass panels with a door as one panel that opened and folded back for a good sized passage when needed..old brass framing and hinges etc on these panels..she also had drapes across them-there must have been some plaster wall at the top.....she would completely open/close drapes depending on activities.... Your passage from front hall could be an interesting place for some doors that open/close in a clever way....then if table would be left with leaves down or a smaller round table were placed, on left side as in "parlor table" effect..., you would clear almost half the room on fireplace side for a real seating venue ,facing fireplace wall ...making a focal point and .....maybe cost saving as the redo of your front windows wouldn't be needed .. But if the table serves as "office"-granted,that need is driving everything. I tend to think a fireplace wall is an incredible spot for focus and you are going to go big and spendy if redoing windows at the front and making another focus wall......seems like a duplication for the room in a way......just be sure....you can do a lot in there already with what you have, no doubt....See Moresink centered or off centred in bay window?
Comments (12)Thank you for your comments. I thought I'd share a change of layout plans that I'm pondering considering I didn't like either option with sink in the bay window/dishwasher layout. Spoke to the contractor and we think it's easier to leave the sink where it is, widen the window above it to be the pass thru awning window, widen the current U shape, leave the bay window as is and the 'eat in' kitchen table area. So I'll be down a dining room but that's ok, it's only a few times per year MAYBE that I entertain and need more space. I can put up a temporary dining table elsewhere (or switch over the den to dining room in the future) or make that circular table an extendable to an oval one. I may add a built in bench to the bay window now or down the road. In this layout, it's a little awkward as to what to put in the niche where the pantry is in my drawing below. It's not full height in there and it's currently where I have a sideboard but with my dining room no longer being there after the reno, it should be something else. Pantry cupboards, maybe a little desk with open shelves above? maybe a beverage/coffee station with mini fridge. I know it's a little awkward having the pantry outside the kitchen. That's the only thing that bugs me about this layout. Other option is to put the pantry to the right of the fridge. In my current kitchen this is where there is a desk and open upper shelves that definitely needs to go. It's where all the 'junk' goes like recipe books, telephone, pet food, meds, etc. so I'm drawn to putting lowers and uppers there to hide all the stuff. But it also makes sense to make this the pantry area so it's more accessible than having to walk around the penisula when prepping. So that's the dilemma/question...where to put the pantry. And what to use that niche for. Note, that niche does have a direct sightline to front door so people will see it when they walk in the front door. The area by fridge is hidden from view facing back of house Thanks in advance....See MoreGracie
