Can I paint beadboard same color as wall in a 4 season room?

We are in the planning stage of constructing a 4 season room off of our kitchen. We live in a coastal New England town and want the sunroom to reflect a New England coastal decor. The sunroom will be 16 feet long by 12 feet wide with windows and french doors. The floor will be wood with a light color stain. The ceiling will be cathedral with 9 feet at the highest point and down to 7 feet 4 inches at the walls. We would like to give the ceiling some visual interest so we are going to use tongue and groove or wood which we will paint white. The doors and windows trim and baseboards will be white. We would like to have beadboard (36") on the walls but are concerned it may compete with the wood on the ceiling. We were thinking of painting the beadboard the same faint blue-green color as the walls so it would not stand out so much nor compete with the ceiling. I am wondering if this sounds like a good idea or should we forgo the beadboard or paint it white too?? Thanks for the advice.

The room your describing sounds beautiful. I think you should paint the bead board white, because if you have white ceilings, lightly colored walls and then the bead board it will make the room look balanced and help to lighter colors to show and that's what it's supposed to do. If you paint the bead board the same color as the wall color, it will just fade to the back ground and not provide any contrast. Here's an example of what I'm talking about, not the same type of room, but still you get the jest. right?

Thanks lukkiirish. I agree that the details of the beadboard are what we're looking for and painting them white will make them more obvious. What I am concerned about is that the white wood/beadboard on the ceiling and white beadboard 36" up the wall will make the room look too busy or something. I do love the look of the photo you posted but the ceiling in that room is not wood. All I have seen are examples of rooms where the ceiling and the entire wall is beadboard/wood.

I think beadboard is continuation and exaggeration of the trim. It should be the same color. Sorry Mom. If you go with kitchen-matching cream bboard and trim, is there a stopping point to end the cream gracefully without running into white trim elsewhere? like a corner. When answering this question, keep in mind that what seem like an obvious and definite "no" to you, may not actually be so noticeable in reality to others. It could be one of those things that no one notices unless you point it out. If kitchen cream won't work, maybe you can find a darker cream that will (1) blend with the kitchen and (2) contrast with any adjoining white and (3) still look good with the wall color. That may be a tall order!

Is Dover White going to work with Anew Gray? I can't tell from the online color chips what they really look like. If the color undertones work together, I would suggest you paint the beadboard a color that is a lighter version of Dover White. The main thing is to keep the undertones from clashing.

I was thinking about painting the beadboard white. And then painting the walls above either grey or blue. I've also been intrigued by some very cool wallpaper I've seen recently, but I'm worried that would overwhelm the small space. I'd be nervous to remove the beadboard and damage the walls - turning this into a larger project. And yes, not sure why the TP holder was installed that way. :) Would be nice to get some sort of storage cabinet for extra TP and other supplies - perhaps in a cabinet hung above the toilet?

Constanceann, don' be afraid, it will look amazing. I've seen that look time and time again, and it works beautifully. The color breaks up the whites and the whites make the color pop. You don't have anything to loose if you put up the bead board first in white, if you don't like it, you can paint it. If you do decide to paint it, I'd go with just a darker white, or a VERY light light gray on the ceiling, and still leave the bead board white.
