Yes, you are right...Improved! What a great choice. I like the UbaTuba, but can also see a creamy granite with black or other dark inclusions/veining and some movement. I like the lighter option I mentioned, because it will have less of a mirror finish than the polished UT.

I love the new cabinet choice! I might consider a countertop that provides a bit more contrast, though... I think that might be too much green/black.

we went with a blue island instead of the 'safe' buttermilk-- i'm so glad we did. you're going to love your cabinets.

Hey, Dtchgrl -- our Shiloh cabinets have just gone in THIS WEEK!! and I'm thrilled with them! When I left this noon, there were still things to be done, and we just ran to the house to see -- and they're basically done, except for knobs and a couple little things.

Our perimeter cabs are polar white with a pewter glaze and the island is charcoal -- both are distressed. Oh, my, I'm so pleased with the quality and the look!! It's a large kitchen with the perimeter cabs making an outside angle turn, and the KD designed a solution that seems to have worked out well. It appears that everything fits like a glove -- good installers! Countertops next week and appliance installation scheduled for the 8th.

All that to say that I think you've made an excellent choice and will LOVE the contrasting green island -- yes, much better choice! And if my experience is anything to go by, you'll be very pleased with your Shiloh cabinets.

My perimeter countertops will be dark blue Zodiaq and the island a brushed granite, white with specks. I like the contrast look . . .

I like the green! I think it does more for your remaining cabinets than the eggshell.

This new cabinet choice is excellent. Perhaps a light colored granite with some of the same coloring as the perimeter cabinets to pull the whole look together?

I love the color choices. The stained Shiloh adds a rich contrasting color. Are you married to stone on the island? If you want a more modern look, using the same granite would work well, but I agree with danielle00. Too much green/black. If you wanted a more warm feeling kitchen, which I am guessing from your ceramic pieces, than I would suggest something more contrasting. I thought a butcher block on the top of the island would pull the warm tones together. I provided a link of a color that I thought would work. On the other hand, a brushed stainless countertop would look fabulous pulling in the appliances and your knobs.

Thanks everyone, I feel soo much better with this choice. I was trying to be too "safe" with the eggshell and they weren't complimenting anything.

I love the idea of something other than granite for the island (and I really like both butcher block and stainless), however its going to be both a work island and a connected drop down to chair height eating island with 3 chairs down each side. (I wish I had a good drawing but the KD had to go back to the drawing board.)
As much as I love them both, butcher block and stainless won't work b/c this will be our daily eating area.

So, if I go with the Ubatuba on the perimeter (there are lots of perimeter cabinets and its an economical choice and I think it looks good with the golden maple), are there any other good options for a large working and eating island beside another granite? Otherwise it sounds like I should look for a creamy background(not white, not gold)granite with maybe bits of black and/or tan. I agree that all that black and green will be too dark...my inspiration was quite bright and fresh..timeless but whimsical rather than formal. And rhome and Hestia make a good point that a lighter creamier granite for island might tone down the mirror/shinymodern finish.

Hosta- I loved the Shiloh charcoal, and that will be fabulous with a pewter glazed white perimeter. But I can't see your pictures...can you try the link again? My KD said Shiloh is one of the few makers that hasn't caught onto an upcharge for glazes, distressing, wearing, etc. Anyone that knows they want any of those specialty finishes should check them out.

Krisd- I adore my Gail Pittman pottery. We've used some of the pieces daily for years and they still look new.

Oops, it worked when I previewed . . . will try again, without doing the thumbnail and see if it works!! The big pile of rock outside the window was from the lower level excavation and will eventually be used in landscaping.

I really like both combinations...the green with the natural of the OP and the blue/white combo.

Particularly with the natural and green combo, since the original is being "added" to, it will look fresh but not too trend specific.
