Looking for a Pattern

I'm in the process of planning a retreat for our quilt guild that will be held the end of August at one of the local lakes. It is a wonderful location.

I would like to use a theme based on a summer camp fire. Haven't come up with the exact "name" of the retreat yet, but that too will come. With the theme I'm thinking s'mores. With the s'mores I'm thinking one of those marshmallow snowmen type ornaments...you know the one...two marshmallows sitting on a graham cracker. OK, you have the picture...now I'm looking for a quilt block pattern (paper pieced, applique) that has this marshmallow s'more snowman on it. Can anyone out there lead me to a site that sells the patter, or does anyone have a pattern to share. Any help would be appreciated.

I found two fabrics featuring s'more snowmen when I Googled, but you've probably discovered those too. This may be a tough one! Let us know if you find a pattern.

Google free knitting patterns or free knitting patterns children and you'll see many sources of hundreds or thousands of free patterns. [I don't knit, but I crochet, and I could keep busy for several lifetimes on the great crochet patterns I've found.] So my advice would be to find a free hat pattern that appeals to you. Make the hat, then crochet a rectangular scarf which uses stitch elements from the hat pattern. [Perhaps you'll see a pattern for a similar buttoned scarf which will give you the size to use. Or perhaps you and the intended recipient can experiment with different sizes. Or if the intended recipient isn't available to test sizes, perhaps you know another little girl who can step in as a model.] Buy a big button that looks good with the yarn. Then on the last edge of the scarf, make a buttonhole (however knitters do that *lol*). [Besides regular button sources, my WM has an area in the fabric/crafts section with kid-appeal buttons (star-shaped and I-don't-remember-what-all). These were sold in small and large packets.] Good luck with the project!

I look on eBay and Etsy for vintage embroidery kits pretty often and I don't recall seeing any Bremen Town Musicians. But you could enter a search on eBay and subscribe to the search terms, so that any listings for "embroidery Bremen" or "embroidery cat donkey chicken" or whatever get emailed to you every day. I've hd some luck finding old patterns that way.

There are many many patterns for crochet slipper sox on Ravelry...pick one and make them gray with a red and white top and there you are.

Beverly.....Poor Sunbonnet Sue.....the things we do for s'mores!

Lynn, I cyber-met the gal that put the binding on the quilt (quilt blocks I sent in) for the last auction. That was pretty cool.

It looks like in one of the links Beverly provided, you could applique the graham cracker on your background square, put the chocolate on top of that then stack the marshmallow snowman. Sure would like to see a picture when you get it figured out.

I thought about you before I posted that one Sharon. I though you could use one of the pictures of the snowman smores to do an applique block, table runner, wall hanging, or pillow.

Great links, Beverly! I have to have the ornament with the penguins and should probably buy DH the golf or hockey, or both. We already have several, but this collection was new to me.

Lynn, I hope you had a chance to see your magnificent dancing penguin in one of my completed Sew Whats tops. If not, the thread is on page 3 now. Your s'more design really interests me. I'll be checking back to see what you come up with.
