anyone know their spouse less time than I did...before

marrying them and have it last?....Less than 6 months. He was a blind date. So I didn't know him before.

We were told we were rushing into it and we were way to different. That it would never last.

Next month we will celebrate 44 years.

But just think, would you tell your grand daughter 6 month is long enough?

I think, the time has something to do with it. It was a simpler way of life, and less troubles to worry about.

Knew mine 8 months. It will be 42 years June 1st.. I would do it all over again. Had 3 terrific kids.... I truly feel lucky!!!

For 8 summers I had a vegetable garden along the east wall of my parents' house in the Chicago suburbs. Morning sun only. I had room for 5 tomatoes: one cherry and whatever beefsteaks we could find seedlings for. The tomatoes were grown at the back of the plot, right next to the brick wall. The limited sun didn't seem to be a problem. Since the weather was quite dry during that period and I'd been taught to prune to one stem, damp foliage wasn't a problem (did have Septoria leaf spot on a plant one year). Squirrels stealing the lower fruit (for the moisture) were the worst problem. === A few years back, there was a poster here named Dave who had a shady Minnesota backyard (neighbors' large trees he couldn't prune). IIRC, he planted in containers which he stuck in the brightest spots he could find, scattered across his backyard. He was much more successful than anyone would have believed. His tomatoes got less sun than mine had in Illinois, so probably 4-5 hours of direct sun. === When I first moved here, I replaced the Previous Owners' hostas in front of the house with a row of daylilies. They were shaded most of the morning by the house and from at least 12:30 by large maples. Daylilies are supposed to have at least 6 hours of direct sun to bloom well, and mine got 1 - 1 1/2 hours. Oops. But they bloomed fine. "Well, it's bright shade," I said. I didn't know there was such a thing as "bright shade," but there is, and it makes a difference. So if you don't have an area with enough direct sun, look for an area which gets as much direct sun as possible, and some bright shade.

Thank you everyone. It helps so much to be able to write it all out here. I said before, you are all like my online diary. :) I know I have to let go of things with my dad and I'm really trying to. Hopefully he's up in heaven knowing my babies are on the way (wishful thinking at least). If I am pregnant this round, the baby/ies would be due right around his birthday so it's a little eerie when I think about it! I've had a very lazy week so far but mostly because my medications make me so tired (and hungry!). Your messages mean so much to me. Thank you. And you all will be one of the first to know if it's positive!

I really don't understand how anyone can buy a rug online. I have to at least see it in person to know if the colors are right. Monitors and the lighting when the pic is taken vary so greatly. Heck I've brought so many rugs home over the years. I want to be sure that what I've chosen is going to compliment the entire area around where it is being used. How do you do that with an online rug? However, I have seen a good amount of dissatisfied posters who've received a rug that was not as represented by Overstock or another seller. Who picks up the return cost? As far as the posters who are poo pooing buying a good quality rug (travel to Turkey, etc) and then link to JC Penney rugs, what a hoot. Obviously the OP has something a little different in mind with her stated budget. Also, I get a kick out of people professing to travel to a place where they would be in the total minority and have no idea of where to go and how to haggle with the rug sellers, let alone figure out the exchange rate. Have you ever been to Turkey? Really.

Devorah, After he retires, will your husband have each and every hour of each and every day crammed full of stuff to do? After a short while of running around kicking up their heels and getting a lot of the stuff done that they'd been looking forward for years to doing ... ... some freshly-minted retirees ... ... sit around and get bored. Some wives get fed up (well, frustrated) with hubs spending quite a lot of time around the house. They were used to having the house to themselves (for most of the day). When I talked to folks in seminars about retirement, I suggested that some men, used to being involved in many things, take to following their wives about the house, suggesting that if she were to do such and such a task in a little different way, it would be easier, take less time, be more efficient, etc. But that it might not be a god idea to follow that practice if there were a gun in the house. Or a baseball bat. Also said that Tom retired one day, and next morning was sitting in his favourite chair, reading the paper. After a few minutes, he put the paper down and looked around. Picked it up again and read a while longer, then put it down again and looked around. After about five times of this, Marje says, "Something wrong"? "Where's breakfast?", asks Tom. Marje replies, "You retired yesterday, didn't you?" "Yes," says Tom, "What's that got to do with anything?" "So did I", says Marje, sweetly. After Tom contemplates that answer for a moment or two, Marje continues, "I'll tell you what - I'll get breakfast now, and after breakfast is over, we'll sit down to discuss who's going to do what around here. How does that grab you?" We don't have record of Tom's reply. But this story seemed to receive a more positive response from the female portion of the audience than from their counterparts. Are there some interests of his in which you might develop an interest? Some of yours that might interest him, when he has more time on his hands? Perhaps you can develop some new paths that might be of interest to you both, when he isn't burdened by work any longer. I had a friend named Charlotte who met a guy at his wife's fuineral. Yeah, really. They got married six weeks later. The late wife's family was upset, but they have stayed together over 20 years.

My DH called me Thanksgiving nite (blind date) & we went out the following week-end--We got married 2/8, just 2 months after we met! WE had 6 wonderful yrs together before the big C took him away from me! Our life together was fantastic!

We met in March of 1942, married June 21st, 1944. But we only saw each other 4-5 times during that time. He was in the service and we wrote many, many letters. I still have them.

We had 38 good years and two children, until cancer took him away.

met my husband in Chicago, Jan, 1978...I moved to Houston 3 days later...I visited him...he visited me...over the course of 2 years...we maybe spent a total of 30 days together...got married in May, 1980...still goin strong...

Mine was different. We were engaged 4 yrs and the waiting was tough for both of us! We met while I was in a work-school training program. All my money went toward college expenses. We we able to marry after I graduated and landed a job.

The religion I now belong to advises short engagements, maybe no more than 6 months. Why? If a couple feels that marriage is right for them and have made the commitment, then why wait?

We dated 8 weeks, never a day apart, moved in together, 2 weeks later got married.....in order to share a car insurance policy, he'd never had insurance. :0) We got married again 26 years later @ the courthouse to change my last name. Married 31 years altogether! A VERY GOOD MATCH!!!!

Vince and I met on July 3 1945 and were married on Nov 10. We have been married almost 65 years, Many didn't think it would last.

Met future wife on an ambush / set-up; I don't like set ups so although I was polite to her it was 'Well, nice meeting you.' at the end of the night.

Six months later ran into her 'down at the shore' still no commitment on my side.

A few months after that I was an usher at the set up couple's wedding. I came dateless, so did she. It occurred to me that our paths had crossed three times now so I wondered if it could possibly be fate. I got her number, invited to a halloween party (I love halloween; used to host a party every year), we started dating, got engaged 10 months later, married 7 1/2 months later. That was 1983.

I 'met' my DH when we were pre-schoolers. His family was friendly with one of our neighbors. I didn't see him again until we met downtown in a university night class. When he came to pick me up for dinner he asked if the So-and-so's hadn't lived across the street and we pieced it all together.

You know, if I hadn't liked him, that would have made no difference, but I think it did weigh bit in his favor -- that I *knew* him.

At least I didn't marry the boy whose mother was my mom's hospital roommate when we were born. The new mothers became friends and would nap both babies in a crib at one house or the other. For years this guy persisted in announcing that he'd slept with me! (wink, wink). (ICK, ICK)

Bigbaby and I were set up by a friend. She blew me off, then met the kids, I got a 2nd look. We knew each other 4 months when we got married. We decided on Monday to get married on Wednesday. (No, she wasn't pregnant.)
