A good, vintage-y Ben Moore cabinet yellow?
Comments (54)The thing with yellow is that it "blows up" the more surface area it covers, am I right? I wanted my cabinets to "read" BM Fresh Butter. To do that, I could not actually paint them that color. You really have to Ignore the chip colors almost entirely and be prepared to pick a dirty yellow/more brown than seems advisable color. For me, that came down to Vellum. I also looked at BM Goldfinch, but it was just a bit too brown even "blown up." In the bright sunlight, the sink base cabinets really do read BM Fresh Butter to me, until I hold the chip up to them. Then, they don't. Yellow is the hardest color - also because the color takes several coats (often) to fully develop (so its a pain to swatch it). The cabinet color was the hardest part of my kitchen plan. When you see my mood board at the final reveal, you'll still see the Fresh Butter strip :-). I couldn't let it go (and the Vellum strip is just "meh")....See MoreBuy a new sink or a vintage sink?
Comments (40)Go for it! I have used vintage enamel sinks in the past and will be using one again in my own upcoming remodel. You do need to ensure that the drain size is appropriate for whatever you want to do with it (can it accommodate a modern disposal? Some old ones can, some are 1/2" too small). Have them shoot you a close-up with a ruler. I *think* the exact size is 3.4" - 4" for a disposal, but do google to double-check. In terms of a faucet, they still make nice adjustable-width laundry sink faucets precisely for these sinks (Chicago Faucets is a great source for solid ones that look just like their predecessors), so you can accept a fairly broad range of backsplash holes from 6" to 10". The gloss level is also a good question for follow-up. Get more photos from different angles with light or a flash on it. Dull isn't bad, per se, but it's true that the duller it is the more easily it will stain in the future. Not that you can't keep re-scrubbing it, but it's a factor. One thing is certainly true: there are more of these sinks out there, even this exact model, if you pass this one up. I've seen yours go by a number of times in various venues, like eBay. Have you checked out This Old Tub and Sink? They are awesome and Kevin will take excellent care of you. Slightly pricey but he vets his sinks and tubs very well. I just bought a single deep basin drop-in from him and am very pleased with it. Link to the site below. If you're looking for a single bowl vintage farm sink, there's this popular laundry sink model from the 20s that shows up regularly: link to current eBay auction, $200 Enjoy! Vintage items aren't perfect, but then again after a bit of use most modern ones aren't, either. And the aesthetics just cannot be beat. Take it from a dedicated user of a 1949 stove. :) Here is a link that might be useful: This Old Tub & Sink, Boston...See MoreMy Unfitted Unmatched Beachhouse Vintage Kitchen
Comments (66)Your kitchen turned out just exactly what I wanted! I'm pretty happy with mine but at the time, other "hot" ideas predominated on the kitchen forum and I wasn't smart enough to come here. I'm a wallpaper person. I was totally out of my element there. I remember when you were looking for fabric for the sink skirt and I can still see your mock up of the sink wall. The wall lights are perfect. I considered them, I think I still have one in my stash, but I went for porcelier fixtures. Anyway, we would have been an awsum combination kicking around ideas for my kitchen. I would have done your hood....See MoreVintage-y vs period correct?
Comments (27)Okay. What series has all these pieces? Slider bar that is rated as a grab bar--so far all I have found are jaclo and delta. The delta has a bad review from someone on the bathrooms forum for the chrome finish turning brown in under a year, so I pictured a jaclo above because mine in my master bathroom is nearly two years old and in perfect condition. Train rack--I haven't found either a delta or a jaclo. I pictured the gatco above. Toilet paper holder that rated as a grab bar--none from jaclo or gatco. I pictured a delta above. Moen seems to the the main other choice and it is fairly modern in appearance. Towel ring-- pretty much everyone makes these. I pictured a gatco above because it will physically be closest to the train rack. So, what am I missing? Which line has all of these pieces?...See Morejalsy6
