Table Runner of the month

My DD and I found a pattern with 12 table runners, one for each month. I have made the first two runners. She was planning to come home last weekend and we were going to work on them together. She and her DH both got sick and were not able to come home. I worked on the January runner on Saturday and then cut out the Feb. runner on Sunday. Today I put the Feb. runner together when I got home from work.

You are not boring me with your table runners! I enjoy seeing them. I would definitely use brown on the pots, and maybe pink on the flowers, and perhaps a light aqua for the the meander. Aqua & brown is very trendy & pretty when subtle IMHO. Appliqueing with the matching colors of the pot & flowers will make them stand out against the all over light aqua meander. ~~ I think, but after you lay out the threads, you may not like the aqua. I find most of my batting too thick for a table runner, IMO. So I use flannel or just a heavy interfacing. Keeps the runner much flatter while still adding some body to it. When making a table runner or topper (square) I consider the colors and design of the blocks to be of more importance than the quilting. I want a vase of flowers or candlesticks or other decorative pieces (like a soup tureen) to sit securely flat on the runner with no possibility of tipping over.

Dotcomegone, I can't help but respond to this post because I think a lot of our thinking may be on the same page -- even though you've pretty much said you don't want my kind of table. LOL! At any rate, I'm posting because my own kitchen dining nook, which is much smaller than yours, is located at the end of my galley run and adjacent to a triple bay window. More to the point - it's styled after a French "bistro." As such, I purchased an antique cast iron table base from an architectural salvage company (Urban Archaeology) and a Danby marble remnant that I had fabricated for the top. I hear you when you say you've already have a lot of marble going on in your kitchen. (which is gorgeous, btw!), so this idea of a marble cafe table may not be for you. But you may want to consider adopting my idea of purchasing the table base separately and then having a rimmed glass top made to fit it. At any rate, here's a couple of photos of mine:

Thanks! LOL! I'm not stressed... just confused. And I overthink everything, so I'm easily confused :D blfenton - that's exactly what I was thinking... since I want it to be insulated to protect the table from heat, it will be a thicker fabric, and I'm thinking it might make the plate wobbly. We are usually paper-plate-casual-chaos for our holiday dinners, but I want to make it nice this year! I've seen lots of pictures where it's just in the center of the table. I was originally thinking I wanted something more elegant, but I think maybe I'll just make it 60" long...then there's room for placemats at the ends of the table when it's extended as well as when it's the usual size. Waddya think?

Thanks everyone. I am enjoying picking the fabric for these table runners from my stash. I have been collecting FQ's with no special project in mind so I have a nice selection from which to choose.
Bopeep - the kids are both feeling better this week.
Barbaratx - The pattern is Calendar Table Runners # 140 from Little Quilt Company. I bought it in Dublin, OH at the Red Rooster quilt shop. The pattern company is www.littlequiltcompany.com
Sharon - I love bonding with DD over quilting. She is a beginner but has a great eye for color. (Much better than I do.)
Fran - the blog was created for me by DD. She is a professional web designer and has her own business.
I am having fun blogging about my quilting. Did you notice the straight pins holding up the pictures? This was an extra that Jen added for me. I just have to remember to click on it when I add a picture.

thanks, lindaoh. I just ordered the table runner of the month pattern and also the quilted name patch pattern. Can't wait to get them and start sewing.
