May Table Runner

I have not done the applique stitching on this yet. I have been thinking of using a brown thread to match the shade of brown in the fabric or I am considering matching the thread color to each part of the applique. I think that brown would make the applique stand out from the background fabrics.I haven't made up my mind and would like your input on the color thread to use.

This table runner was made from a charm pack of Moda's Hushabye fabric. I made this one smaller than the last monthly table runner because I only had 42 squares and did not want to add other fabrics. I did buy some FQs for the applique that are not from that line of fabric.

I still enjoy making these monthly runners. The June runner will have watermelons on a neutral center with a green border.

I hope I'm not boring everyone with all my table runners.

You are not boring me with your table runners! I enjoy seeing them. I would definitely use brown on the pots, and maybe pink on the flowers, and perhaps a light aqua for the the meander. Aqua & brown is very trendy & pretty when subtle IMHO. Appliqueing with the matching colors of the pot & flowers will make them stand out against the all over light aqua meander. ~~ I think, but after you lay out the threads, you may not like the aqua.

I like the colors and the design. I won't give any advice on thread as I am hopeless about these things. Oh, and you'll never bore me with photos of your quilted things....I love to see them. TFS.

My goal for the first part of 2011 is to finish another Double Wedding Ring quilt. I took a class using green and purple fabric. It was to be for DD. She changed her color scheme before I had it made so I made her DWR in browns and blues. I have all of the fabric cut for the first DWR and have made an appointment with a long arm quilter for November, 2011. I have been working on it since the first of the year. I think one of the key things to consider is "follow up service". My sister-in-law has a BabyLock Elegante (sew/embroidery) machine & she got 3 years of annual check ups/servicing. The shop has been available by phone for questions/concerns/problems, and it is a LOCAL well established business. They've given her quick service thus far. Now I have a friend who within the last year purchased a Pfaff embroidery machine. She has had some sort of problem/issue & took the machine in for service. While it is a local shop, the husband of the owner of the shop is the "service tech" & he has another regular full time job. Well, he has the machine "apart", has had the machine in the shop for over 3 weeks, & as far as I know, still hasn't diagnosed the problem. 3 weeks is too long, imo.... and with an unknown end point, who knows how long this basically "new" machine will be out of commission? Both of the examples are pricey... $7000 or so... we're not talking about cheap machines. They are quite complex, computerized devices. Not everyone can service them. Also when/if you go to buy.... negotiate for "extras"... like thread, programs, etc. These things add a lot to your overall costs to owning & operating an embroidery machine. Availability of classes is important, too. Some shops have "embroidery clubs". I think that in all likelihood that most any machine today will be fairly comparable & will "fill the bill" especially if you're new to machine embroidery. But the big difference is "Service after the sale"..... check that out carefully, preferably from other customers.

Beautiful runner, Loralee. Your daughter will love it. As for the photo issue, I just touch the Photo icon below the text box, which automatically accesses my computer files. Then I find the photo I want and touch Choose and it loads. Size doesn't seem to be an issue on Houzz as it is on some other sites. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Sure! Why not? There really are no "rules" about such things, and you can always live with the runner for awhile and remove it if you get tired of it.

I like the idea of matching thread to the applique piece, or maybe just a shade darker pink to help the flower pop. The background meander will make it stand out, too.

I love all pictures. The problem I have with it is that it makes me consider how nice it would be to have a new table runner every month, or a new wall hanging every month, and how that sounds really fun. Eeeep! My other projects are frowning at me.

Thank you for your suggestions. I hadn't thought of light aqua for the quilting, but I like that idea. I probably won't get to work on this until next week. DS and his DW are coming for the weekend so I won't be quilting.
