What is your decor in your backyard? Would a Whiskey Barrel work for you?

This is the one I have. It stays dry inside & the lid locks so my dogs can't get into it. I also noticed that target.com has it alot cheaper than I paid for it a year ago.

I had the exact can that arbisi has and after the 4th or 5th time of changing the bag, I just dragged the whole can to the curb for the garbage man to take! It is very very hard to get the bag out of the can because the opening is smaller than the bag itself and if you actually put garbage in the garbage can you can only fill it up 1/2 way or you won't get the bag out. They need to redesign the lid of this thing so that when you lift the lid back to get the bag out, it actually opens the whole top of the can instead of just a smaller version of the top.
Anyway, we now have a stainless steel garbage can with a step on foot handle to open the lid, no more fumbling to get the lid open!
Whew...need more cofee now :)~

I have that same garbage can - it's not a problem. It has 2 openings - a smaller one for garbage and a larger one to change the bag - surprised you didn't realize this when you assembled it. As arbisi said, it seals tight and can lock.

jmas- that is exactly the way mine was. Lift a lid to throw garbage in and it locked down to the base of the top that you opened to replace the bag. The outside fridge is filled with bottled beer so the garbage can was used mostly for empty bottles. It just didn't work for us but I am sure it would be fine for paper garbage & lighter weight garbage. I just got tired of laying it on it's side placing my foot on the can and tugging on the bag to get it out! Imagine the garbage man when he seen the can sitting out on garbage day and he picked it up full of garbage!

Here's the look we have- sort of old world-ish. Don't think a whiskey barrel would do it but I appreciate every and all comments!

arbisi, definitely a great price on that can, but we kinda wanted to stay away from the plastics if possible. Don't know if we want stainless steel either!
After doing some more searching, What do you think of this one?

Nice set-up! Yeah, a Whiskey Barrel wouldn't work with your decor :-) (It wouldn't work for ours either). Personally, I wouldn't put a "permanent" trash can in my yard unless you can find one that doesn't look like a trash can. We have something similar to what you showed, but only bring it out for get-together's/parties.

I'm dealing with the same problem, but to make it worse, we also put up a wrought iron fence, so it's visible from the street.

Right now it's in my garage. Can you say, "yuck"? I've got to get that thing out of there and find something attractive enough to sit back in its old place under my breezeway.

Sharla, do you mind posting where you found that one? I'd like to see the dimensions on it. It looks nice.

Here's mine. We got it at Sam's for about $60. It's *heavy*. I was tired of our trashcans blowing over. I was also tired of my dogs being able to get into the trash.

The only bad thing about this is that the top is pretty heavy, and that makes it harder for very small children to get it open by themselves. Our kids are 10, 14, and 15, but we entertain friends with smaller kids and they can't ever just throw their popsicle sticks away.

I like some of the wicker cans, but some of them look like clothes hampers to me!

See, I need a trash receptacle. I need something that can sit outside near the pool (under the breezeway, next to the gate) that I can put the trash from the inside can into, until each trash day - then haul it out to the curb.

I think I'm doomed to just having old ugly plastic cans. :-(

It kinda does look like a clothes hamper. I found a large pot at HD for just over $100. It looks similar in shape to that beauty you posted. How could I rig up something to hold the bag and I wonder if I could find the "donut" or a lid of some sort to go on top? Any ideas everyone?
