More neutral: light green or creamy yellow?

So what do you think? We are painting the kitchen and living room (open area) and incorporating some touches of tourquoise and possibly cobalt for accent. Some of the color experts on the forum are cautioning us about using any yellow (I think) with a beige carpet. However, a designer thought a very soft yellow will work or possibly a light green (such as Dunn Edwards 'Dusky Moon' (or the next darker, 'Woven Reed'). Your feedback is appreciated.

I think yellow is pretty neutral. Greens make a bit more of a statement to me.

While yellow and beige might not be automatic choices, if you have someone with a good eye (which I am assuming the decorator should have?) then the shade(s) of yellow suggested should work fine. BOth the green and yellow work well I am sure with the turquoise/cobalt you mention as accents. I think they just have a different mood to them with the yellow -- in my opinion of course- being somewhat cheerier.
It seems that green is a very fashionable color lately, which would probably make me prefer the yellow.
So all in all-- YELLOW.

Creamy yellow sounds like a good choice. I'm not familiar with the colors you listed, but I'm sure any would be fine. A popular SW yellow/cream is Ivoire. There are some lovely rooms painted Ivoire in the "Favorite Yellows and Golds" Gallery: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/decor/gal111825059508.html?125 As for a study, a suggestion I have would be SW Latte for the walls and SW Divine White for the bookshelves. I think that would be very rich looking and neutral enough that it would go with everything. Latte looks really nice with burgundy and olive green. Silver Sage is lovely for the bedroom, but may I suggest at least an ivory/cream color for the bathroom rather than white. I have a small master bath and painted it a light silvery blue. To me, that doesn't make the room look smaller. My guest bath is SW Divine White. I combined it with light and dark turquoise towels and shower curtain.

Be sure to test a fairly large sample on various walls. The yellow colors change during the day depending on the natural light, and then again with any artificial light. We painted our kitchen/family room 3 times before we got something that worked. I had painted sample patches on one wall, but the exposure varied on the others and those first 2 colors just didn't work. I appreciate everyone's input on this as it's time to re-paint and I want something just a little different this time.

Be persistent when they mix colors - I had SW and BM working on colors - in the end, I said - what is wrong with simple math - this color has these 3 items and this color has these 3 colors - the color match is missing this and this - fix!! They humored me and it was perfect! Where is Fishies - she is the yellow person!

I worry that yellow will make your beige carpet look dingy, unless it is more of a straw/wicker color with some yellow in it?
Have you considered going in another direction and choosing a rosy-peachy tone? There are very sophisticated ones that don't look too girly. We used Donald Kaufman #14 in our kitchen, and it shifted through the day from cooler in the morning to warm at night in incandescent light .
I wish the colors in this photo were truer...the cabinets and trim were more ivory in tone, and the walls never looked quite this pink, but it might give you the idea. (My husband, by the by, had no problem with the pinkness, and if it had looked too pink, he'd have vetoed it.)
Something like this could look wonderful with turquoise and cobalt.
