Sofa and fabric selections- vintage looking?
Comments (21)I too have heard wonderful things about Flexsteel quality, but- I am not sure if it is still the way it was. Melly says hers is older, which reinforces my questioning on this. Not trying to be too much of a skeptic but I was in the market for family room furniture and su:rfed the web tirelessly- and found all sorts of conflicting opinions.......... I have had Broyhill which I know is a very moderate line, and I also know that might not be an option now as they have had a good deal of financial woes but the furniture was great. (also very old so not sure of what is made now) I had Thomasville which I believe is supposed to be a better quality than Broyhill and is more $. It was ok but it was not any better than the others. I ended up buying Rowe, which I believe is probably comparable to Broyhill- anyway it's only a few months old but it seems great and it is made in USA. I didn't spend a lot, as that was what the moral of the story seemed to be- there was no longer a correlation between quality and price. This may still be valid for much higher end lines but for what I was considering.... that's my 2 cents. I still do love your wallpaper though:)...See MoreLeather or Upholstery sofa and allergies
Comments (10)My youngest DD and I both have indoor and seasonal allergies. She unfortunately does asthma. We decided to go with leather after she kept having constant issues while sitting on our upholstered furniture. Even though I vacuumed the furniture several times a week and washed the parts I could she and I both suffered. The leather was an immediate improvement and I doubt we'll go back to having all upholstered furnishings (a chair here or there is ok). All the fancy decorating in the world won't matter a hill of beans if you and your family can't enjoy it. We do have curtains and throw pillows too. I just vacuum the curtains regularly and pop them in the dryer for a few minutes on high to remove dust. Every so often I will wash or dry clean them. Throw pillows are best with a removable insert that you can replace every so often....See MoreBest Quality Sofa Around $2500?
Comments (6)I'm not familiar with them, but took a quick look on the Room and Board website. I think that the construction looks good for that price point! I'm glad to see they use sinuous springs as some Room and Board pieces use a flexolator or grid suspension which I do not recommend....See MoreBar stool colors for a charcoal couch? Comments (40)The problem with a bench is that people like to scoot up to a table and not everyone is going to scoot up the same distance. Also, benches are not good for lingering on. People like to have that back support and they are hard to get on and off of ( especially if you are trying to get 3 people on one) - think picnic table as you really can't easily move the bench in and out like a chair. Ask yourself if you were at a dinner party and the table had a bench, would you and your husband run to sit on the bench or the chairs? I'll focus on non-fabric chairs for easy clean-up. But don't completely discard fabric as with all your hard surfaces you may find that you may like having a fabric to break it up. I purchase cans of Scotchguard (or like product) and spray the fabric myself and over-all it does a pretty good job. And if you are looking to kid (or husband) proof it, then a sheet thrown over the chair will work, too-lol.......See MoreRelated Professionals
