Prius Owners - How About a Little Feedback?

This weekend, I rented a 2012 Prius to drive to Roanoke, Virginia (from Norfolk). I liked the car a whole LOT but it's a stiff ride and the seats aren't deliciously comfy.

However, it got 52 mpg on the highway, and in the city, it went past 60 mpg. I was dazzled. I filled the little 11 gallon tank ONE time.

I stopped by the Toyota dealership on the way home and found that there's a new style of Prius, called the "V". It's more like a station wagon and is wider, taller and reminds me of the early 1990s Camry Station wagons.

I'm thinking of getting one of these.

I'd love to hear from other Prius owners. Do you love your car? Any mechanical/electrical issues? Is it in the shop much?

Prius owners, is there anything in particular I should know before I take the plunge and spend $30,000 on a new Prius V?

Don't know about the new ones, but the earlier ones needed the batteries replaced at about 100K miles, at a very high cost, thousands of dollars. So for people like me (and my disgusted friend) who routinely put 200,000 miles on a car, it is a No Go. My Honda has only needed routine maintenance in 150K miles, and yeah, it doesn't get that mileage, but I haven't spent $5000 on a new battery, either.

Sushi, what year is your Honda?Mine is a 1996 and has 155,000 miles.

My son had a Prius and liked it a lot, until someone ran into the back of it and that was the end of it.

Laguna Pump owners: just a little tidbit for you

Michigoose, that is a good point about cleaning the Mag type pumps, especially at the end of the season, if you intend to store it out of the water. The sludged sets up like cement inside the pump and can seize it up. Then when you attempt to start the pump in the spring, the brittle ceramic, impeller shaft, instead of turning, just twists and breaks. That is when most people have problems with their pumps, because they did not do ten minutes maintenance on it in the fall. There is a dealer near to where we live that sells so many Laguna pumps, that if you bought your liner and pump from him and go back to him with a broken impeller, he installs a new one free of charge. He says it is just good public relations. Thats the kind of dealers we need! I just had an old Cal utility pump, I use for cleaning out the pond sludge, give up the ghost yesterday. I was a replacement pump that I got over ten years ago for another Cal pump that had only lasted a week, before it too gave up. I figure this one wouldn't last either, but ten years later it was still running. I guess I got my moneys worth out of that replacement. Take care, "Horton"

dMary----I cannot believe they are doing that to you!!! Make the tech lift up the top of the unit(the part the lid is attached to) and then look at the rust under that part. Take pictures of it.............did you contact anyone at the top level with the info I put on here?????? Take pics of the rust in your dispensors..............do not pay for another lid as it will only rust also, we went through a few of them and it was only a matter of months.........have the tech look at the suspension springs in the back on each side of the machine when he lifts the top(not the lid) and he will see rust there and that is what was causing our squeaking sounds...........we were glad to dump the Oasis set.............you are just not getting to the right people.....take this info back to the store owner where you bought the set and sit down with him-----if he is a good business man he will help you out. go give it a try------have all your documentation, service calls , problems, frustrations, child with problems. all your attempts at getting someone to do something........let us know what happens..........do you have a better business place in town???????? a place to register complaints???????locally??????????? call and make an appt with the store owner or manager..............dennis

OH goodness. It looks so perfect in everyone's kitchens - and maybe it's just that it looks so huge in scale in the showroom. I had sort of been suckered into the Moen Arbor Motionsense. I liked the style a lot and the auto-on was a bu (I know the arguments for a Tapmaster but I have kids and need the water to come on all the time or be manually turned on.) But now I'm kind of wishing I was going with the Vinnata set. It just looks so... timeless and substantial, you know? They really aren't in the same ballpark. Argh.

Quick summary: I love my marble. If I could have fallen in love with some other material (still affordable) that requires less babying/maintenance, then I would have jumped on it. These years of waiting for patina is not fun nor easy. Just know that lots of things can happen, and may happen... --- Have you read my many posts with real feedback regarding my marble trial and tribulations? Amanda's thread crying about a marble stain, which has faded I truly wanted stainless steel countertop and integrated backsplash and sink, but DH wouldn't go for it. He thinks it looks too commercial, like a school cafeteria. I think I'm realistic, knowing how untidy and abusive cooks that we are. Like right now, my entire countertop is covered w/ stuff: - composter - meat defrosting/soaking in bowl - trivet/baking sheet from last night's dinner - big old bowl of fruit, w/ the plantains begging to be cooked - crockpot base that didn't get put away - aluminum foil and saran wrap from making/packing this morning's lunches Gone are the first 1.5years of feverishly clearing off my countertop, making sure there's no drip that could stain or etch, etc. -- I don't like grout/seams, so we had to get the marble slab. We already had chosen marble for the countertop, so I couldn't go with another material for backsplash. --- Good: - a backsplash is not as large real estate as countertop, so less impact/etching/potential stains/chips - not in direct light, but you may have lighting from the hood and under cabinet lighting "marble pictures that make my heart sing" - like I said, just be prepared for what may happen... -- Good luck, Amanda

We know a couple of people that have bought them and "regret" isn't a strong enough word in the way they feel about buying them. The expensive batteries was just the beginning..

I've had mine for 5 years. Not one issue, except for the rubber cover on the parking brake. It fell off, the dealer fixed it.

We only get about 45 mpg, but only because most of our driving is just a couple of miles round-trip in hilly hot central Texas.

When we do take a road trip, we get upwards of 50 mpg.

I love my Prius.

The Accord is a 2004. Last Honda before that was a 1988, 250K miles, and was still going strong. Never a major problem, either. We replaced it only because we had a little extra money and thought a new car would be nice. Still got a new silver Accord. How original of us, huh?

I guess that people who trade in a car after a few years of under 100K miles, it's different.

We've had our Prius for three years and love it. We get 45 miles per gallon, more on the open road.

Some close friends just bought an '07 Prius that has 100,000 miles on it. They bought it from someone they knew who needed a bigger Prius. My friends can't stop saying enough nice things about the Prius. They just took a 3 day road trip and got better than 50 MPG.
