Prius Owners - How About a Little Feedback?

This weekend, I rented a 2012 Prius to drive to Roanoke, Virginia (from Norfolk). I liked the car a whole LOT but it's a stiff ride and the seats aren't deliciously comfy.

However, it got 52 mpg on the highway, and in the city, it went past 60 mpg. I was dazzled. I filled the little 11 gallon tank ONE time.

I stopped by the Toyota dealership on the way home and found that there's a new style of Prius, called the "V". It's more like a station wagon and is wider, taller and reminds me of the early 1990s Camry Station wagons.

I'm thinking of getting one of these.

I'd love to hear from other Prius owners. Do you love your car? Any mechanical/electrical issues? Is it in the shop much?

Prius owners, is there anything in particular I should know before I take the plunge and spend $30,000 on a new Prius V?

Don't know about the new ones, but the earlier ones needed the batteries replaced at about 100K miles, at a very high cost, thousands of dollars. So for people like me (and my disgusted friend) who routinely put 200,000 miles on a car, it is a No Go. My Honda has only needed routine maintenance in 150K miles, and yeah, it doesn't get that mileage, but I haven't spent $5000 on a new battery, either.

Sushi, what year is your Honda?Mine is a 1996 and has 155,000 miles.

My son had a Prius and liked it a lot, until someone ran into the back of it and that was the end of it.

Dave, the day before I take the plumarias into the garage I cut off the leaves near the stem. This lets the latex dry before I take them in. Some people wash all of the dirt off of the roots before taking them in for the winter. Then they just lay the Plumeria barerooted on a shelf or something. I have never done that. I thought it might be easier on the roots to let the soil dry and fall off on its own. I use the plastic bags to keep the dirt from making a mess. I'm always sure to keep the mouths of the plastic bags open so the roots do not stay moist and rot. This has worked well for me, but the Plumeria I have stored this way is really a tough variety. Also my garage is well insulated even the doors and I don't let the plumeria touch the cold concrete floor. Please get advice from others and don't go on what I say or maybe try just one or two plants if you are interested in trying this method before you try it on your whole collection. Joan

Wow, this forum is great! Scott Â I had placed the accent boulders by the shallow end to be a transition from deck to coping, but great point about the jumping risk Â those rocks would be smaller and hopefully not as tempting to jump from as the 3 intended jump rock areas. I didnÂt anticipate the pool sweep climbing up 2 feet onto the baja shelf, but will have to think about that. Already made the changes per your skimmer and light location suggestions. Bobinbaltimore Â Will seriously consider the obstacle course feel, but we too like the look of various accent boulders throughout. Your note about the thin decking on the far side is a great one Â the plan should state that it is 1Â wide coping around the entire back of the pool. I intended that section to only be walked on when climbing out of the pool from the bench and onto the rock waterfall . Gonna have to think about how weÂll use it and how wide it should be. BTW, your pool looks great so far! Just-a-pb Â IÂve known several friends/neighbors do OB with the general comment being that it is a headache, but you will get more pool for your $. I hadnÂt heard that the OB market has plummeted. Not sure how the downturn in the past 18 months in the pool biz has altered the OB market. WeÂll only use licensed, bonded, insured subs who are clean with the ROC and have been recommended by other OBs Â and we are hiring an inspector to check after each sub. So not totally on our own. boxerpups - I am so sorry for your loss. Pets are family and provide so much love and affection that is unspoken and unconditional. We lost our beloved lab of nearly 10 years this April just shy of his 10th birthday. He developed a splenic tumor and was very sick. We opted to operate b/c the other choice was to put him down or let the tumor eventually explode (which it was close to at the time). We knew the chances of it being a cancerous tumor were very high but we wanted to give him every chance he could at life and there was a small chance it was non cancerous which gave us hope. We operated and he had a rough time recovering b/c of the size of the tumor and b/c his heart had been so stressed due to the tumor. We checked him out of the hospital against medical advice after nearly a week in the vet hospital b/c he wasn't eating on his own or really perking up if we weren't there. We brought him home and he was never happier to be home, went out in the yard, went upstairs (even though he wasn't supposed to - he always slept upstairs next to my side of the bed), snuggled with all of us and ATE! We thought he was going to be okay, drs were amazed he responded so well to being home. Well he passed away the next morning. :( Sometimes pets need the extra time with their owners as much has we need the extra time with them. Our dog NEEDED to come home and one extra night with us, check out the yard, go all over the house and make sure all of us were okay too. Turns out his tumor was not cancerous after all. We are glad we operated and glad we got one more night. So just because YOU needed the time, don't think your beloved pet didn't need the extra time too to say goodbye and spend with you and your family.

I’m also considering the axis reversible chaise. I’ve called several C&B stores to ask about it and they argued with me saying that it doesn’t come with a reversible chaise. Wish the employees were familiar with their products.

We know a couple of people that have bought them and "regret" isn't a strong enough word in the way they feel about buying them. The expensive batteries was just the beginning..

I've had mine for 5 years. Not one issue, except for the rubber cover on the parking brake. It fell off, the dealer fixed it.

We only get about 45 mpg, but only because most of our driving is just a couple of miles round-trip in hilly hot central Texas.

When we do take a road trip, we get upwards of 50 mpg.

I love my Prius.

The Accord is a 2004. Last Honda before that was a 1988, 250K miles, and was still going strong. Never a major problem, either. We replaced it only because we had a little extra money and thought a new car would be nice. Still got a new silver Accord. How original of us, huh?

I guess that people who trade in a car after a few years of under 100K miles, it's different.

We've had our Prius for three years and love it. We get 45 miles per gallon, more on the open road.

Some close friends just bought an '07 Prius that has 100,000 miles on it. They bought it from someone they knew who needed a bigger Prius. My friends can't stop saying enough nice things about the Prius. They just took a 3 day road trip and got better than 50 MPG.
