I won't do it again

I know I cut the corner off at least one of the blocks! Now I know to watch for that though. Oh well, it's a gift and I'm sure the recipient probably won't even notice. I'm not especially proud and think it rather loud, but I thought I'd show it anyway. I changed the way I have been connecting the binding and at least didn't have the little lumpy thing at the join. I think it is lovely. Imperfect corners don't bother me in the least. They remind me of things made by hand with love. I'm sure the lucky recipient will love it.

But.... as to the "I won't do again"
I myself wouldn't make that vow. Haven't you ever sewn something wrong, ripped it out, & sewn it EXACTLY the same *wrong* way the second time around? I sure have! Especially when doing the final connection of the binding. Fact is,,, I've sewn & ripped it *3* times on binding connections!! Done a few miss-cuts & repeated it too! LOL!---> That's all you can do... just laugh (& take a rest).

Not sure of breeders, but a few reputable fish stores , even if keeping them in cups, will change the water daily. Adams Saffari, in NJ, keeps them in bowls this way. They also put the cups/bowls on the glass canopies near the light so water temp. is good. It makes a huge difference between the normal on a shelf ones. They are healthy and active. Another option is www.liveaquaria.com , shipped overnight, gurenteed for 14 days, a little expensive for this shipping, but worth it.

I know. My neighbor's store bought petunias are looking raggedy already. Mine are in full splendor and going strong. I still have a tray of petunia seedlings I don't know what to do with, though. Still have a bunch of Prairie Smoke and some perennials that I need to get in the ground. Will probably do it this weekend.

When we first moved here, I wanted to "save" every bird and critter that needed help, and quickly learned no one else around here was as worried about the wild things as I was. Our first year, a big owl crashed THROUGH the fiberglass skylite panel on the roof of the chicken coop. He cut his head and hurt a wing. I called all over southern Oklahoma and no one (least of all the local Fish and Wildlife people) were interested in helping that owl. I was crushed. Finally, we moved him to an adjacent small guinea coop/pen and put the guineas in with the chickens. We left the door open, and he finally flew away on his own after several days. I refused to catch mice for him, so he had to live on canned cat food for those few days. I guess if you live in an area where wildlife is very abundant, people don't get as excited about one injured bird. If blue jays are engangered, you can't tell it here! We probably are overpopulated with birds, though, because we put out food for them and have a constant water source. I HAVE noticed that there are more birds than usual hanging out around the garden and eating bugs in the garden. Birds are a terrific method of pest control, so I encourage them in every way possible. We ALWAYS have a pair of owls who stay together all the time and hunt together. One is a really big barn owl, and we call him Hooty. The other is a little screech owl, obviously named Screechy. You never see one without the other, which is fascinating. They've been here as long as we have. I don't know if the current Hooty and Screechy pair are the actual same Hooty and Screechy pair that we first saw in 1999. I think it is an odd pairing. I feel sorry for them....the crows harass them relentlessly and try to run them off. Our owls are mostly out at night, but every now and then I see them out late in the morning. For all the birds we have coming to the feeders, predator birds do not come into the yard much. Maybe the cats and dogs help keep them away? Oh, and the Purple Martins also like to chase off other birds attempting to "hunt" in their territory too. Dawn

We just got rid of a raccoon after 3 weeks pilfering my garden and tearing up neighbor's roof looking for larvae from hornet's nests. Borrowed my brother's trap and it took 3 weeks before it finally went in the trap.....My son relocated it to another area quite a ways away near a river and orchard.....I guess they are all over our town now.....This is something new....didn't used to be raccoons anywhere right in town!! I first noticed that all our water bowls I have out for my bees and cats were tipped over and those that weren't were muddy with partial strawberries/blueberries, onions, garlic and you name it!!! I had a feeling it was a raccoon because we had problems with them when we lived in Oregon. I stayed up late enough one night to take a video of it on our porch!!

Been there, done that, and will probably do it again.
We can only try to remember our flubs and hope to not repeat them.

Very nice, Corrinne! I took a class for the Square in a Square ruler and we made that block.

Bee, that's exactly why I don't cut anything after joining the binding ends until I unpin it and make sure I sewed the right direction! LOL

I wouldn't have even noticed the cut off corners if you hadn't mentioned it. Most people look at the "whole" design, and wouldn't see imperfections, unless they were a judge at a quilt show. When I first opened this thread, my eyes were drawn to two things...the red border, and the pinwheels inside the squares.

Such a lovely pattern!

What is the other item with a purple border peeking from the top of the photo?

'I won't do it again' yeah been there and done that and ended up doinging it again, just because I was determined it was going to be right the next time around! Never say 'won't' ... you may eat your words!!

Thank you all for your kind comments! I was really kidding - I know I'll do it again and probably worse, although I'm trying to be more careful now. I'm just so anxious to learn more before the garden starts up and I won't have much time for quilting.

Julie, that's another runner peeking out behind it. This runner was for myself and a trial run at meander quilting. That's another story! My doggy quilt is now finished, but if I post a picture of it you will need your sun glasses - for sure.

No big deal on the losing a point or two - it happens!

Are you finger pressing the bias seam open on your binding after you join the ends? Sometimes I hit it (press) with the tip of my iron before I fold it for the big finish. No lumps.

I think you did a great job and it looks lovely, even if it is not your color choice. I'm sure the giftee will love it. And if she is not a quilter, I'm sure she will not miss the missing point. LOL
