Choosing curtains to bring color to FR (lots of pics)

We are moving to a new house and I need to choose curtains for the family room. Everything is neutral in the house, so I'm thinking of adding reddish colored curtains, but I'm having trouble choosing.

We have leather furniture. Here is a picture of the furniture, a basket and a lamp that will all go into the room. I have two love seats like this and a chair. We also have some map pictures, but they are packed up already so I can't add a pic of them.

The house is painted "mushroom cap". I'm not sure what brand the paint is, but it's kind of a tan/taupe color, like latte or something. The carpet is neutral. The room adjoins the kitchen and eating area. I've bought these roman shades for the back doors. Those doors are right next to the family room.

I'm considering these curtains, but I'm afraid they might be too formal. I wouldn't use the sheers, just the curtains hanging from clip rings on a nickel rod.

Or maybe these curtains. What do you think? I would just use the red color panels, not the stripe probably.

I'm open to any and all ideas, including using different colored curtains. All my furnishings and pics are pretty neutral.

I think they're great! (I'm also looking for drapes. Where did you find them?) They would look nice with the leather chairs.

A nice coppery orange color would look nice too; this is the wall color I have in my LR.

If it were me I'd look for a pattern for the curtains. All those chunks of color need to be blended together somewhere otherwise they just look like you stuck them all in the room last minute.
Whatever you do for the curtains incorporate some of the same fabric into pillows so it looks more pulled together.
Careful of what reds you use, try and match it to your sofa which on my computer looks almost purplish.

Ok, I promise this is the last set of tile pics (unless I find what ottertail used!). The store got the Roman Stone (not really stone looking) samples for me: But I still think I like the subway better (this store has it $8/sf instead of $11). It almost matches the color of my floor grout, even though each tile has some color variation it's a gradation rather than a speckled effect. So even white grout might work (to be a "negative" of my white floor with tan grout) instead of gray. Only thing is, they said subway is harder for DIY. If I do the 4" squares, I won't be able to do diagonal b/c then I'm going to end up with tiny triangles at the top of the 18.5" high space - running the first row flat and putting a 1" liner doesn't help either unless I get creative with grout spacing.

So...we basically so far have 2 votes for Sailboat, one vote for Tidal Foam, and 3 votes for keeping the existing rug. Does anyone else think the existing rug is too small? What about its design clashing with the design on the chair? (if I kept the same fabric on the chair). Anele -- The current fabric on the chair isn't in terrible shape. I could just have the foam in the cushion replaced. It certainly would be the best choice to preserve the original integrity of the chair. My mom has been telling me to not change it for awhile, but I trust your taste more than hers! daisychain - I don't think I can do much with the fireplace surround/mantle. Paint it black maybe? A decorator awhile ago wanted me to paint it white like the trim. My husband would have a cow. But if my plan is to replace it in a few years anyway, I guess "ruining" the wood by painting it wouldn't much matter. kristinekr -- thx for the compliments on the house. It really is just a late-90s real estate boom fast built cookie cutter subdivision ranch. I'm trying to work with what I have to make it as "interesting" as possible. I wonder if I could find or make a long low cabinet for under the long painting to house the subwoofer and maybe the speakers...

Newbie here... Help me find a FR Rug! (lots of pics)

my3dogs- The painting will actually go up on the wall behind the loveseat (the wall it is leaning against in the picture above). It technically isn't even "in" the room as the FR is a sunken area and the picture will actually go on the wall in the "walkway/hall" leading to the room. There are no other places to put it as the TV wall will have a 13 foot built-in Cherry entertainment center/bookcases. I'm very familiar with Selectrugs. I've spent quite a bit of time on their website! caminnc- muranogirl's house is gorgeous. Really close to how i would have liked to decorate our house, however DH is a bit more traditional and poo-poos(is that a word??) my more contemporary leanings. So the FR in progress is sort of a compromise. It looks like muranogirl has an off white/ivory rug in her FR. That was the original plan that DH didn't like because he thought it was too dull. I may have to push more the more contemporary look and stick with the light colored neutral rug in a geometric pattern (although it is a bit risky with 2 kids under 4). susie- i haven't check out american blinds- I'll put them on my list!

Don't even know how many homes I've put RG in at this point. I will tell you that I don't put RG and Blonde together much any more unless there is substantial natural light. Reason being you can hardly tell the difference between the two. In a couple of homes that's worked out well. Blonde was just a snidge lighter than RG so it all looked like the same color, but in the individual spaces the lightness of Blonde helped *lift* that area whereas the RG would have been too dark. If a definite difference between areas is desired, I pair RG with Believeable Buff. BB ended up being what several people thought Blonde would have/should have looked like next to RG. Had a couple clients repaint Blonde with BB because they thought there would be more of a difference. I suggested only partial repaints for them because RG worked out great just needed to tweak the contrast with BB. If you sample in your space and you can easily see a diff between Blonde and RG, it should be fine. Just be aware and really look before you decide. Don't assume RG and Blonde are a good pairing just because of how they are ordered on the strip.

I really like them. I dont see much difference between the first and second, but do prefer the first ones. I think they will look great with what you are showing (the shades, the seating ) and the framed maps you describe.

The curtains are from JCPenney. The color of the second ones are a lot different in the catalog, more vibrant. I'm thinking of going with both the solid and stripe like in the picture. Maybe that will help blend the colors like a previous poster mentioned. I don't know. I'll sleep on it. This decision is driving me crazy!

I love the second set of drapes! Add a throw rug, some pillows and art work with that color and you are good to go!
I've enclosed my sitting room for you which has a brown loveseat and chair and similar drapes. Hope this helps. :)

I'm not really loving the red with the dark leather for a choice in window treatments.Especially with light colored walls and carpet. I think the red curtains will look too pinky. If it were me I'd bring color out in an area rug instead, keep the curtains more neutral and instead add some accent pieces here and there, possibly even colored frames and or strong colored art. Here's a pic from pottery barn I love.

Unless your leather pieces are photographing very differently than they are, I don't see the solid red drapery working to bring everything together.

You might look at one of the two paisleys on the JCP site - I am linking the Baxter paisley here. That will give you some color, but also some textural feel, and avoid having nothing but big blocks of solid color around the space.

Then you can pull colors from the paisley to add pillows, accessories, etc. If you have some artwork for the walls that can bring in some color, too.
