I love the picture-I think it gives you a nice pop of color, too! I think you could try putting just one of the candlesticks on either side of the picture; I like their size and color and how they contrast with your fireplace.

Yes, I especially like the reds in contrast with the creams and yellows in the picture.

Of course I'm giving it a thumbs up - I have the same print (in 8x10) along with another Monet print, in my dining room. We picked them up while visiting Monet's garden in Giverny, France three years ago. Love his work!

We just bought this print, so I'm obviously a vote for "perfect!" And we have a very open plan with few walls, so it's taking up important real estate.

I love Monet, and that pix is one of my faves. I think it is great up there. Brings some much-needed color to the upper part of the space, and carries your eye up from the low chairs in front.

If the size is accurate, I am not sure you need anything else up on the mantel. I would get rid of the two small pieces on the right, and move the white candlesticks down to the hearth on the left, and change out to red candles.

Also, I had a few prints framed at art.com and I thought the quality was very good. They also shipped a lot quicker than I thought they would. It's also fun playing around with the different mats and frames on the website.

Jan, I'm sorry, we didn't. We were too afraid to take a chance on the quality just seen online. We got it at a local shop. We have gotten other pieces from art.com where the print quality was fine, but not had them framed there.

I like it too. It has the neutral colors from the rest of your room but brings a nice pop of color.

Agree with les917 and soonermom. The picture is the only thing needed on the mantel and it looks great.

jan and all, I did notice that art.com also carries a higher quality print-- the Monet is available in a version they call "museum quality" for I think it was $139 or $169; I haven't tried that either, of course, but had never noticed it before, and thought it was interesting.

homeagain - Yes, the bright red in the picture really brings the room to life. I have never purchased any type of art online before, so I hope it lives up to my hopes when it arrives.

walnutcreek - I will remove all else from the mantel and move the creamy candlesticks to the left side of the hearth and/or use a tray on the ottoman to display some items.

susanka - I noticed the higher quality print too (after ordering the first, of course . . .)! But, I'm afraid that one is out anyway, as the size is too large for the space. Unframed, the smaller version is 47" x 36", which is too large. It would have been a great option for over the sofa, though. I'll be on to that area next, most likely.

Love the print (not that you need another person to tell you that). Love the idea of putting the candlesticks on a tray on the coffee table. Not sure if there might be some other objects that would look good on the mantel with the picture...

I have a framed print in my bathroom from art.com. Other than that I wish I'd chosen a different frame (totally my fault), it came out lovely. Nice quality print (giclee), fun online framing tool (not that it did *me* any good), well framed and included heavy-duty hook for the wall. Good experience - I would buy from them again.

I'll also put in a plug here for GalleryDirect.com, where I got the canvases over my tv cabinet. Smaller but very nice selection, and very good prices with coupon. Probably best for unframed canvases since they don't have a great selection of frames.

Charlikin - I'm glad to hear that you had a good experience with art.com. I too found GalleryDirect and came to the same conclusions - great canvas choices, but more limited frame options. I'm definitely bookmarking it.

Another art.com question: Did you find that the representation on your monitor were a good match for the appearance of the picture and frame in person?

Jan, thanks for the kind words.

If you decide to go with a tray on the ottoman, and add some objects, please consider using a round tray, perhaps in the strong red from the painting, and some objects with some curves like a ball vase.Or you could add a round woven basket tray and a ceramic vase filled with lovely red poppies.

The reason for my suggestion is that right now you have the square ottoman, centered on the square firebox which is centered below the rectangular art. I think it would be good to bring in a few curves to break that up a bit and connect with the curves in the chairs. Also good to bring some of the strong red down into the space a bit.

I don't post a lot, but had to say that I love your artwork selection for above the fireplace. If memory serves me well, I remember that you have red paint in your kitchen/dining area, so I like to see some red accents added to other rooms as well.

This is O/T, but I remember the saga with your Ballard bench and truth be told, I'm kind of jealous (in a good way) that you have room for such a nice bench! :)

I bough a brightly colored abstract from art.com and framed it elsewhere and loved it. The monitor was representative of the color. Thinking back I should have had framed through art.com. probably would've saved me some $$.

Jan, I found the colors on my monitor to be very accurate. And the framed picture looked just like it did in the framing tool.

les917 - I always love your suggestions. You have an uncanny ability to lead people in the decorating direction they want to go, but do not yet know. You're absolutely right about all the rectangular lines and the space needing some curves, like those of the chairs. I've been scarfing around for some round trays. What do you think of these:

auntmimi - Thanks for sharing your kind thoughts. You are correct about my red kitchen/dining area. I do plan to use red accents. The pillows on the chairs are just a start. And . . . you remember the Ballard's bench saga too! I do love that bench, so all the fuss was worth it in the end. :o)

I think the red tray is perfect! It has a country french feel, which works well with your chairs and the Monet.

I like the woven trays, the first one especially, but I am not sure it feels as special as your room does. It could work if it were dry brushed with off-white paint, to lighten and antique the feel of it a bit.

I wish you were close by, I would love to make a small floral arrangement in red and yellow flowers like poppies or cosmos to sit on the tray, something in an old white ironstone sugar bowl or small tureen.

By the way, the iron and glass candleholder that is currently on the mantel would make a great flower vase, too!

The picture is beautiful, but I just need to put in my 2 cents. I'm not in love with that frame, I almost feel like the print either needs to be larger, or the mat & frame should be bigger. The frame, to me, is too plain. But I do think that print is perfect for your room.

LOVE the pic, ties in perfectly with your chairs. Love the white candleholders too but wouldn't use the items on the right. I'd use just the 2 white candleholders.

I have ordered both framed and unframed pieces from art.com. I have been pleased with everything I ordered. One time, a print was framed in a different frame than I ordered and the customer service was outstanding.

I think the print looks very nice there! I think I'd leave the print be the only thing. I like the idea of greenery on the bottom. I think a round tray would look great on the ottoman and I like the french red one above! Your room is so pretty!

Les - Thanks, the red tray is my favorite too, although it is an oval 19" x 12" size. I hope that's large enough. Oh boy, and I would LOVE a floral arrangement there too. Sure wish you could e-mail that! :o) I adore flowers - love them all. Of course, a snowstorm is expected here tomorrow, so spring seems SO far away yet! I had thought of using the iron and glass holder for flowers too. Warm weather is short here, so I make the most of it while it lasts. I wonder if I could find any decent silk flowers to stretch through the months between.

pesky - The frame and mat are pre-selected options through art.com by their own staff. If I change the frame or mat, only wider custom options are available, which makes the whole picture too large for the space I have. I understand what you're saying, but given the size of the print, I can't do much with the frame or mat and still make it work in the space.

loribee - Yes, I agree about the pieces on the right not working. I do like the creamy colored candleholders though.

shilohsmom - Very encouraged to hear good things about art.com. This will be my first order with them. I do buy online a lot, as the shopping options in a rural area are very limited.

Les - stalk away - lol! I live north of Green Bay (northeastern area of Wisconsin). Shipping could be a great possibilty. I once managed to have a large bench from a Ballard outlet store shippped from Ohio, even though the store didn't accept phone/internet orders or provide shipping. I ended up calling around to shipping companies in that area and found one that would pick it up and pay for it, allowing me to reimburse them. There's an old post somewhere on here about that - where there's a will, there's a way!

I know where Green Bay is. When I was a kid,we used to drive up to see my grandmother in Marquette, MI, and go through Green Bay. There was a great little diner near the stadium that served the best burgers! That doesn't seem like a big deal now, but this was the late 50's and early 60's, before fast food places everywhere. We stopped whenever we could, but often coming home on a Sunday they weren't open.

Fast forward a lot of years, and my older DS went to a summer music camp at the university in Green Bay. We were up there for the move in, and for the final concert a week later.

So, let's see how things look once you get the art in place and the tray, and then if you like I can send something your way that won't end up crushed but will add a nice touch to the room.
