I've had this recipe for a long time and have used it often. It is my favorite Jello salad.

PINEAPPLE ORANGE CREAM SALAD

1 20 oz. can crushed pineapple
1 large pkg orange Jello
2 cups buttermilk
ý cup chopped pecans
8-12 oz Cool Whip

Heat pineapple to boiling. Add Jello and dissolve.
Cool until syrupy. Add buttermilk and pecans.
Fold in Cool Whip and chill.

* I use orange-pineapple Jello, and use more pecans.
You will want to use a LARGE bowl to mix this in.

PioniesandPosies, the one you like to make is very similar to my fave. My Mom called it Sunglow Salad. Orange jello, shredded carrots, crushed pineapple and mandarin oranges. When I use sugar free jello, it is pretty legal for me to eat pretty much all I want, Oh and a little secret......he won't admit it, but it's Cynics fave too!! LOL Not!!

Jell-O is not high on my menu list, but then I've been called "hoity toity" in my dining desires and dislikes. I can handle some Jell-O occasionally, but plain. No fruit, vegetables, roadkill, fish entrails or wood splinters in it and no sour cream, yogurt, or inch of "catchup" on it either. (Now I suppose the ketchup wars will start again! LOL)

And don't try getting sneaky with fancy names. You can call a dog turd a jelly donut but don't expect me to fall for it!

My family still has jello salads at get-togethers. Some that we like are the taffy apple jello, pistachio jello salad, mandarin jello salad, champagne jello salad.

The very best jello salad! We are unable to have Christmas or Thanksgiving without it along with those memories of our dearest aunt who made it a family tradition.

GREEN STUFF LIME SALAD
2 small packages lime jello
12 marshmallows
1 and one/half c. boiling water
1 package softened cream cheese
1 T. mayonnaise
one/half c. chilled evaporated milk, whipped
1 can (9 oz.) pineapple
one/half c. chopped nuts

Combine jello, marshmallows and water. Heat on medium until marshmallows melt. Add juice from pineapple and set aside to cool.
Prepare the rest of the ingredients: Combine softened cream cheese with mayonnaise and set aside. Whip evaporated milk until very fluffy and then add 2 to 4 T. lemon juice. Continue whipping until very stiff. Fold the cream cheese mixture and the whipped milk into jello.
Chill until partially set and then add pineapple and nuts. Chill until firm.

We had one for years that was great no matter what flavor you used, orange,cherry,strawberry,lemon whatever and cottage cheese,crushed pineapple,cool whip. Oh it was GOOD.
The closest I make to it now is the Cookie Salad with sliced bananas and or mandarin oranges,cool whip,vanilla pudding mix.

Who loves tomato aspic? Me me me me me!

There is a green gelatin salad that I used to be able to purchase at Kroger, they no longer carry it. I'm going to describe approximate what's in it. The gelatin is a light green color and it's not translucent. It has cottage cheese (I think), chopped walnuts or pecans, crushed pineapple and at times grated coconuts.

I hope someone recognize it and able to post a recipe. Thank you!

This is an old Tupperware jello recipe we used to like. I haven't made it in a long, long time but it's pretty good. It was meant for the Tupperware Jel-A-Ring but it could adapted to fit what you have.

1 29oz. can pear halves in syrup
1 cup pear syrup (reserved from can)
1 6 oz. package lime Jello
2 1/2 cups boiling water
1 8 oz.package cream cheese
1/2 to 3/4 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Drain pears and save the syrup. Cut five pear halves an 2 and place in the mold indentations. Dissolve gelatin in 2 1/2 cups boiling water. Add 1 cup pear syrup. lace in the f refrigerator until mixture is the consistency of thick syrup. About 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

Save 1/2 cup of mixture and pour the rest over the pears. Refrigerate until firm but not quite set. Should be "sticky when touched. Blend the reserved mixture well with the cream cheese that has been softened at room temperature while the rest of the mold has been setting up.Carefully spoon cream cheese over rest of gelatin in mold. Sprinkle with nuts. Refrigerate until firm. Unmold when ready to serve.

Can't help on this subject; I've never card for any jello...hence, I do not ever think to make it!

LOL. friend Cynic......I'm glad to hear you are a "purist" I too would never think of putting road kill, fish entrails, or.....shudder, catchup in my delicious jello salad. But.......wood splinters???.......Hmmmmm......they say fiber is good for ya.

My sister used to make a jello salad using lime jello, crushed drained pineapple and cool whip. I like it aade it once when MIL came over for a barbeque. She stuck up her nose when I told her it had Cool Whip in it. "I never use that artificial stuff". And proceeded to dump Sweet and Low in her coffee.

If you want something real quick, mix a carton of yogurt in with the jello. Make sure its mixed real good,pour it in a dish, let it gel...I use strawberry and spread cool whip on top with fresh strawberries....

NttHou~ This is how we make it

# 1 large cottage cheese
# 1 small package of any jello powder
# 1 container of Cool Whip
# 1 can of crushed pineapple
Mix dry jello with cottage cheese, add crushed pineapple, then cool whip. You can sprinkle finely chopped pecans over it too.

I make an orange salad that is a lot like nodakgal's:

Orange Salad
3 oz. orange jello
1 cup boiling water....stir until dissolved

Add
1/2 cup cold water
1 small can well drained crushed pineapple
1 tbs. lemon juice
Refrigerate until starts to jell, then blend in 1 cup small curd cottage cheese, 1 cup cool whip, and the recipe called for 1 tbs. salad dresing but I never add it. Put in serving bowl, sprinkle with nuts & refrigerate until set.
You could use other flavors of jello, but I always use orange & sometimes raspberry. Have made this for yrs. and still get asked for the recipe! :)

I like Jell-O but I grew up with it as a dessert, not served with the meal so my experience is with the completely sweet recipes. I hardly see it anymore - wish I did. I come across lots of great Jell-O recipes but if I made them, I'd probably be the only one to eat them. I still haven't tried that pretzel-strawberry-jello concoction that was so popular a while back. I've been meaning to make it and see if it was really all that.

I just saw a tomato aspic for the first time...I have to say, I was horrified. It is the strangest concoction I've ever heard of. I wouldn't even try it. Nooooo way.

Our fruit salad growing up didn't have jello in it, it was more of a canned fruit cocktail, cream cheese, and whipped cream sort of dish. I always liked it! Haven't had it in years.

Took tomato aspic with crabmeat to a potluck and it quickly disappeared. Us southern gals loved it :o)

This is so good. Had it at a potluck and had to make it. Everyone enjoyed.

Grape Jello Salad

2 packages grape jello
1 large can crushed pineapple
1 large can blueberry pie filling
2 cups hot water

Mix jello and water until incorporated. Add pineapple and pie filling. Congeal in the refrigerator

Top:
8 oz sour cream
8 oz cream cheese
1/2 cup sugar

Mix together. Spread over jello. Optional, can top with pecans. toasted nuts are better

My family loves the one I make at Christmastime. I use red Jello (any flavor, as long as it's red), red hots, chopped apples and chopped walnuts.

gotta have that dollop of mayo on my aspic!

The one I saw was shaped like a fish. My sisters boyfriend used to cook at a retirement home and I guess he made one every week because they were so crazy about it. It's weird I never even heard of it before a couple of weeks ago. I don't understand them at all, but to each their own. :)

I like Jello with lots of stuff in it--nuts, apples, celery, etc. I have the cookbook put out by Jello with lots of recipes in case anyone is looking for an older recipe. I don't make it often, though.

I always kept a box in the cupboard when the kids were little because they liked to drink it when they were sick. It was a way to get fluid in them. It's very easy on the tummy after a bout of the stomach flu too.

Socks I have that old Jello cookbook too. It has some really interesting ways to use Jello in it. I'll have to dig it out.

jennmonkey, I love that salad too, but in addition to the ingredients you mentioned, I add sliced bananas, and min. marshmallows. I still make it when I want a quick salad.

This is another good Jello salad, since we're on a roll, here. It's delicious, Cynic! :-) And it takes all of about 5 minutes to put it together.

Mandarin Orange Fruit Salad

1 - 3 oz. pkg. apricot (or orange) Jello
1 - 3 oz. pkg. lemon Jello (or 2 apricot if you can find it)
1 c. boiling water
3 - 11. oz. cans mandarin oranges, with juice
1 can (22. oz.) crushed pineapple in heavy syrup (with juice)
1 - 19 oz. pkg. mini marshmallows
1 c.mayonnaise
1 med. container Cool Whip
1 c. grated sharp cheddar

Dissolve Jello in water. Add oranges and pineapple including the juices. Pour in a 2 quart dish. Spread marshmallows on top of the warm mixture. Cool and chill until firm. Mix mayonnaise and Cool whip and spread over congealed Jello. Sprinkle with cheese. Chill 2 hours or longer.

I am going to lunch with Glenda, and we are having tomato aspic! Actually, I want to go to Glenda's house and have her wonderful tomato aspic with crab!

I disliked tomato aspic growing up. Mother made it for her "clubs"
