I feel your pain!!!! Very difficult to choose. I'm the one with the Dolphin color on my house. If you don't want to go as dark as charcoal, I'm not sure you should consider Dolphin. I think it looks pretty dark on my house. One of the Benjamin Moore experts had recommended AF720-Sparrow as a medium grey with some warmth. They had also recommended the following:
sidewalk gray 2133-60
whitestone 2134-60
stonington gray HC-170
whickham gray HC-171
revere pewter HC-172

You can also go to the BM experts forum and post a pic of your house asking for suggestions. Good luck!!!! It's so difficult and not easy to redo....

I believe there are several web sites where you can select a house similar to your and then play with the colors until you get one that you like. Have you tried those?

Thanks for the suggestions. I have been looking at sparrow, but wondered if it looked too green? I'm horrible with colors.
I have tryed playing with the "color your house websites" but so far, every gray looks the same.

I did try weimeraner. I loved the color when I looked at it in the brochure. I thought it was too light for my house, but who knows. I didn't think that looked particularly gray. Have you gone to a BM store that has color consultations?

Be sure to check out BMs std exterior colors. I like platinum gray or cliffside gray

I have never heard of color consultations, but my BM store is a hardware store, so probably not something they would have. I could certainly use one. I don't want to paint the house white. Again. Is weimeraner mostly brown?

As soon as I read your post, I instantly thought of BM Briarwood. Used to see this color used in Northern Calif. when I lived there, and I loved it every time. Scroll down on my link and you'll see it used on some house exteriors...

Check out the America's Colors Collection in BM's Color Preview fandeck. Ozark Shadows AC-26, Galveston Gray AC-27 and Winter Gates AC-30 are worth a look. If those are too true-gray, how about Shenandoah Taupe AC-36?

From the Exterior colors (why don't they number these?? drives me crazy) you might also look at Briarwood in addition to Platinum and Cliffside. It's brownish - but that's what I think of when I think "putty", a brownish-gray.

For what it's worth, the BM Classic Fandeck has some great colors, but the colors on the strips don't always relate to each other. Within the Color Preview collection, though, the colors on a strip are different strengths of the same hue, which can be helpful in trying to determine if a particular color will skew green, etc.

I also like Stone Harbor 2111-50 and Taos Taupe 2111-40, both Color Preview colors.

What great suggestions. I really like the Briarwood. Thats the next sample. We'll see what it looks like on the house.

I actually am sitting here with the Galveston Gray, Ozark Shadows strip so maybe I am on the right track. That will be sample #2.
