Applique project from monthly stitchers group

I go to a small stitchers group once a month - the lady who takes it usually has about 4 differient projects for us to pick from - before Christmas she brought in a selection of projects to see what everyone was interested in doing this year

I prefer the quilting and embroidery projects rather than cardmaking etc - next class we start with fabrick dying and I'm really looking forward to it

Last month she 'told' me that I would be doing this french applique quilt (knowing that I wouldn't be interested in the other projects on offer that night) - I could have fused it but following the guildeline on the thread here I decided to hand stich it

The quilt is a series of applique strips with patchwork strips between and borders to finish

the strips are: 1. flower panel, 2. six chickens (in sets of 2), 3. six bird houses, 4. six sheep (in sets of 2), 5. six apples (in sets of two) - this I have finished, links to photos below, and finally row 6. flowers again

I'm thinking this would make a great crib quilt for a future present

I promise to post follow on photos thoughout the year - it will probably end up as a row a month quilt

littlefire, Excellent! Your apples look really good and I like the idea of a row a month. I have a few applique projects I'm working on month by month and feel it's a good thing for me at this time. If I get one block of each project done per month, that's all I require of myself.

I look forward to seeing your row for next month.

I love your apples! Very nice work! I love hand applique. What makes this French Applique? I wonder, how does this differ(LOL...Is this even a word?)

What a lot of ideas! Let's leave the discussion open for a couple more days, so folks who might not have seen the post yet can join the discussion. Going with the broadest "common denominator", so far I'm seeing: Tuppermom's 4-patch idea seems to be leading in favor. toolgranny is suggesting a slightly larger four square (7") for more flexibility. Red & green prints only have been suggested, but I like calliope's input r.e. other holiday colors. I sew for some people who celebrate Hannukah, so have blues. And my own decorations are gold and white. So I'm leaning toward any color holiday print with corresponding solids. If a particular square doesn't work for the winner, it could be used in a different project or donated. And as for schedule, this holiday lotto would just bump our current December listing to January and we'd pick up from there. Great to see so much input. Let's see what else develops over the next couple of days, but SAVE THOSE SCRAPS! Kay

Yes, congrats to everyone! The "other" generous winner was buteau3rd, who made 3 blocks for us and declined to enter the drawing. What a lady! Congrats to calliope and carolnv. You're both getting a treasure trove! In order to get a picture of all the blocks together, I'd have had to lay them out in the yard and take a picture from the deck! So they're posted on the Google docs December 2010 page by participant (link below). Calliope, if you'd like, go ahead and choose which blocks you'd like so I'll know how to split them! No need for extra postage, our postage kitty has been gradually creeping upward, so there's enough to cover the split packages. Again. congratulations to EVERYONE for such a wonderful lotto month! I started that project on my own (not a BOM) getting my kits through my LQS. I'm like toolgranny, I also did needle turn on most of my blocks. I did enjoy trying some of the different techniques. That was one of the things that drew me to the quilt. I've gotten side tracked and not finished the quilt. I still have a few kits left before I finish it. Hopefully I can get it done soon!! I'll be anxious to see how yours goes and get me motivated to finish mine! Robbi

Kay..........I will not have my blocks in by month's end. Long story and I am very embarrassed, because I've never been late after committing to make them. But, life happened, and I'm putting out fires all over the place. The blocks were cut out, and I found out I made them for 16" blocks, instead of 12". I don't expect you to wait on them, and I don't expect to be included in the drawing. Just wanted you to know I will be sending them either to you (if I get them in the mail in the next day or two) or directly to the winner if I don't. I'm sorry.

Sorry for the confusion - I should have said 'French pattern'
Its a pattern she has from an old french magazing - there is also another one in the same mag which is lovely
Has anyone seen the new BOM project on TQS site its a lovely flower applique BOM quilt - large squares and looks like a modern twist on a Baltimore quilt
