Hi Since you asked here's another two cents lol. Have been redoing my grow area for some time trying to cut back on the work but find the shadehouse (almost GH lol) is what I enjoy most. So thinking of expanding it to 25x25 and cut way back on the landscape plants. Mine originally was an attached screen room with an aluminum frame. Think for the basic structure addition I'll use aluminum though no cement floor and the exterior coverings as the method I'm using now. The use will be more of a "rainforest" than a grow area . Want to get rid of all the hanging pots and grow some of the "oddball " epiphytes that I've never tried. Looking around i find almost no info on hot climate GH. Most is centered on cold lol. Guess I'll have to go trial and error. I wouldn't mind spending the money but I want it to work year around and year after year with as little maintenence as possible particularly the structure. Did get some interesting ideas from a structural engineer but I didn't pay him so maybe not so good?? lol One big rub has been that I can't have a structure over ten feet due to city ordinance. I have nine on the present one and would like to have 15. Much more useful for a "canopy" and for taller growing trees. What i have been doing is allowing the plants to grow through the roof which is fine except for viewing and for frost lol. Anyway I'm still in the "thinking" stage i really want to do it but not sure how. Certainly don't want to "overdo"it lol I'm sure you'll find a hundred uses for yours. One word of caution .I was going to use mine as a "potting shed" but kept adding and adding until you couldn't even walk through it. My last "clearance' was 6 montha ago and already have to turn sideways to get to the rainbarrel at the far end.lol The original purpose was a place to keep 3 hanging basket orchids. They're still there along with about 50 offspring .lol Always seem to be room for one more gary

Hi Scott, Yeah, I thought of that, but we sanded off sticky residue on a sub floor once, and it totally gummed up the sander. This residue stays moist due to the heat and water it is exposed to. DH said scrape it, but I am afraid of doing damage to the wood. I was hoping someone might have had some experience in a product or chemical that would remove the glue. Regarding the latex paint - I am thinking it won't hold up with all the moisture. Whatever we do, I really don't want to have to be doing it again the next year. I'd like it to last a few years. I told DH that I just want to put peel and stick vinyl tile over it - I was thinking we could even put it over the glue since we want it sticky anyway. And, I was thinking we wouldn't even have to remove the other vinyl. The only thing is that the deck is only 21" wide, and most tiles are 12" square, so we would end up having to purchase twice the amount of tile to cover it. Lynne

Sounds high to me - esp. some of the upgrades. An automatic pool cover should be about half of what you're paying. The upgrade costs from standard plaster are also super-high. Unless prices have doubled from what I paid 2 years ago, the costs for similar upgrades and options for my 45 x 14 foot pool were about 40 percent of what you are being charged (and I'm in So. Cal., where construction costs are high). Also, if you're putting in a volleyball thing, it would seem that a sport pool (with the deep part in the middle and shallow on both ends) would be more conducive to playing volleyball.

For future project reference. I am not speaking for Sophie or anyone else, this is my opinion only. Sophie told you the same day of your post to get rid of the handyman and hire a pro. Good advice. A good qualified and experienced plumber, contractor or handyman would have never installed it that way. They would have done it the way we the ones with numerous jobs and years of experience have done. Again good advice. Others have thrown in their advice and it does not collaborate with our practice and proven technique therefore she says 'Stop Digging". Again good advice. You decided to do it your way and I wish you all the best and I don't want to spend much more time explaining the correct procedure nor what is wrong with your project. Lot of the advice given on Houzz is meant well and appreciated but did you notice that all advice by the Pro's was similar in all cases. That's because we've done this thousands of times and our advice is based on experience ad acquired knowledge. It has always been easier for to explain why we went the extra mile to do it right then explain why we did this different. One more thing for those who are about to endeavor in a project. Quality and craftsmanship is always going to be less expensive in the long run. I'm not saying you have to spend a ton of money to get it done right you just need to do it right.
