Honeycomb blinds at kitchen sink??

Does anyone have experience having honeycomb blinds installed at a window right at the kitchen sink? If the blind is down, it might get splashes from the sink, maybe not even water, and I don't know how easy it is to clean. My gut feeling is that it's not a good idea, but they sure would look nice. Can they be wiped down? Would tomato sauce stain them?

Thanks for any advice.

I am going to be blunt here -- don't do it! In my opinion, when it comes to window treatments few things date a house as fast as honeycomb blinds. If you are set on shades, how about women or fabric shades? If you want to move away from shades how about cafe curtains? It is hard to advise without a picture, but I would stay away from honeycomb shades, Lilly

honeycombs work nicely in bedrooms due to blackout and insulation they provide. How about faux wood blinds-many different wood tones and whites too. humidity resistant and wipe clean!

I have been predicting the return of...kitchen curtains! Cheap, easily washable, pretty curtains. That's what I'm planning to do in my kitchen. You can't have uppers right up against the window sides if you want curtains, but I consider that a plus ;)

I don't know what BBB are carrying but the ones I own are very durable. I believe they're by Hunter Douglas. One set is behind the kitchen sink and I've washed spaghetti sauce off with no problems plus when they've gotten crushed from the cat lying against them they pop right back into position. I highly recommend their UltraGlide cord system. Personally, I wouldn't want to go around everyday raising and lowering 12' of cordless roman shades. Keep in mind that when the cellulars are down you have total privacy but no control of light as you do with blinds.

Thank you! practigal, DH won't go for aluminum blinds again. Wood or faux wood, yes. Honeycomb shades, yes. But metal blinds: no way. Dang, because yes, they are easily cleaned. Faux wood blinds are supposed to be able to withstand similar conditions, though (won't be harmed by water) so it's the look DH wants and the cleanability I want. (okay, spell check on houzz is subpar. It thinks that I misspelled cleanability. I didn't. It also thinks I misspelled subpar wrong, too. Kinda sad.) oasisowner, I know today's roller shades, especially custom ones, are better than the ones I grew up with but I hated them growing up so I'd have a big ol' mental block to get over first. But it's something to bring up when I meet with my designer on Monday. Benjesbride, I had to Google solar shades? I thought they were the same thing as honeycomb shades but I guess they aren't. Are they fabric? Any idea how well they clean?

RIch The short answer to your original question is yes - and do it for a LOT less than the suggestions so far. You could go to a corner sink. For example http://www.efaucets.com/detail.asp?Product_ID=DE217323&ca=gpsl&CAWELAID=227468735&CAGPSPN=pla&gclid=CPH1--_wt8sCFQsDaQodptQLLg It would cost you one drawer on the left of the current sink and give you a double basin. We did that in a very very tiny kitchen in a cabinet we had - tiny as in a u-shape with the sides of the U being 80 inches and the base of the U being 114 inches. Front edges of the counter runs (and appliances) were 66 - 66 -66. Other option is to modify the cabinets in the corner by doing an angle =draw a line from the far corner on the left cabinet straight across to the far corner of the right to get the idea. The corner goes away and it is a slightly angled line with 2 slight angles were it rejoins the main counters. You need a hypotenuse from side to side of 33 ". The sink goes in the angle area. Problem is it would cost a far amount of cabinet space.

We put in double? triple? honeycombs. Our sink is bumped out 3 inches so the area behind sink is deeper than the balance of the countertop, which also has honeycombs along it. It is still possible to splash onto it.

I lift the shade when I'm throwing around water, etc. We have a prep sink elsewhere (on peninsula) so there is less chance that things that stain will ricochet onto the shades.

I agree that the honeycombs are a "now" product. We bought them because they're neutral colored (a sandy beige on the inside, which is unobtrusive in our light oak kitchen), insulate the window, and allow us to use them "bottom-up" for privacy from the street without cutting most of the light.

I looked for images before I purchased these and didn't find much. Sorry I don't have a photo for you but your imagination will do.

A spider went into the hollow chamber. His shadow showed for a while. I left the shade down hoping he would move out, but he didn't. Now shadow's gone, so he's probably crumbled to dust.

We bought online from Select Blinds on a "get one free" deal. We bought the side-track version, which is the most expensive, hoping to add insulation value; not sure it was worth it, because I believe some moisture migrates through the shade, making me wonder how good the insulation value really is, but the honeycombs have warmed up the room at least 3 degrees and perhaps as many as 5 - 6 on a cold Minnesota day, so that's a benefit, since that room with 5 windows in it is so vulnerable to cold winds otherwise. Additionally, the blinds absorb sound, which needed to be done. And they still qualify for the energy tax credit I think.

We did have temporary cafe curtains on the windows. They were darling but they didn't insulate. I was supposed to have my roman shades finished (they will be top-down only and will probably be used mostly during winter) but family situation has taken precedence over interior decorating. For now.

I have a white honeycomb blind at my kitchen sink. I lower it maybe twice a year to block the mid-day sun during heat waves. Mostly it's up out of the way. Actually at this moment I'm about to sew a valance to give my window a bit of an outfit and cover the blind.
