How to Install 4x4 Ipe Posts

My deck contractor has limited experience working with ipe. I will be putting down the decking boards for the deck that is currently going in (I also put in the ipe decking for a screened porch a few years ago -- thanks to the help from this group). Anyway, I bought 4x4 ipe posts (4 foot). In constructing the deck frame, my contractor ran 4x4 pt posts from the ground up and cut them flush with the joists and rim joist (the beams run on either side of pt posts). Now we are wondering what our options are for installing the ipe posts. I would have preferred ipe posts inside the rim joist for strength. But now, the pt posts are in the way. Any way to connect them and still have strength? Any options that are strong enough? Is an outside mount with a notched post strong enough (part of the deck will be 8' high). Thanks.
