The baby is here!!!

Brody Michael was born on April 16th at 11:09 pm. I pushed for 29 minutes. Brody was 3 weeks early to the day and I had to be induced unexpectedly due to high blood pressure. Pictures to come! I'll post them on this same thread later tonight or tomorrow.

Bands do look small, especially if one is used to getting bareroots. Heirloom, Rogue Valley, and Vintage all send band-size plants (Rogue Valley and Vintage *sometimes* have larger sizes, but bands are more common). As to not blooming the first year, I would expect that from once-bloomers. Repeaters usually will flower, but you may read multiple posters here recommend pinching off flower buds on baby bands so as to promote growth of the plant rather than have the plant expend energy on blooming. Below is a picture of 2 bands I received from Vintage in March of 2012. The plant on the left is one of the smallest bands I've ever received from any nursery. It's Grandmother's Hat. The plant on the right, much noticeably bigger is one of the Eurodesert Roses, the polyantha Petite Francoise (whose mature size is only 1 1/2 to 2 feet). Eventhough I've been buying bands for many years, the tiny size of Grandmother's Hat concerned me (perhaps 3 inches tall). But I potted her up in a one-gallon pot to grow her up a little before planting. She started getting buds several months or so later. I'm not sure how long I waited before planting her, probably some time last summer when she'd outgrown the one gallon pot. Well, she took off, had several flushes and today has one cane over 5 feet tall (with multiple branches) and a new basal that's about 2 feet tall. Alas, mopping is my biggest chore as I have only tile and wood floors in the downstairs of my house and 3 furry shedding dogs. (My solution to cleaning the upstairs of my house is to pretend I don't have one.) I use a dust mop to get under stuff followed by the vacuum, followed by a microfiber string mop (Libman Wonder Mop) that can be tossed in the washer after. A divided mop bucket is a thing of beauty, as you're not dipping your dirty mop back into your cleaning solution. A male mop attachment (AKA husband) is also a beautiful thing, but if anyone has figured out how to get those to work I'd love to know. I bought 3 roombas a few years ago, and all of them have been escorted to the curb. They got stuck under things so I was constantly chasing beeps, were a major pain to clean with the forky thing and hours of that constant hairdryer-like hum got old. The batteries all died within a few months, and replacements are almost the cost of the unit so we parted ways in a Flylady Fling. So Scooba? I dunno...not for me, but you'll probably hear from others who have had great experience with both.

I make them and they are truely loveable and realistic. I wrote once but I hadn't signed in so if this goes twice sorry. I sell mine for $00. for the doll and $500. for one of my ready to gift or diplay kits. I love in Maine and the market isn't that great around here.
