Lithops reborn! (otherwise, a disturbing image...)
Comments (3)This has actually happened to me also and serves as a reminder that they are tougher than you think. I would just stay of water and let it absorb the old leaves into the new body. Good job CG!...See MoreAnyone here do needlework?
Comments (27)I have done cross stitch, embroidery, and needlepoint. Then I found quilting. I took my first quilting class at the adult ed program at the high school, 20 some years ago. Its cool that most of us in the class are still friends and see each other regularly. I taught hand applique at a quilt shop for a good while. But after I got cancer, for some reason, my interest in quilting waned. I think I didnt want to be involved with anything that took me away from giving my full attention to my children. So even 14 years later, I no longer consider myself a quilter at heart. But I do go to quilt shops with some of the girls - I hold onto the bolts, or help them pick colors. I dont buy a scrap of fabric. I still have my fabric stash, and of course some unfinished projects, so one day I will do some machine piecing, and try my hand at quilting. I can't feel the quilting needles anymore because of my spine, but I can feel the big quilting pins so at least I can piece. I may try to use a big quilt needle and try my hand at quilting in my hoop stand. I have to realize that my stitched are gonna be toenail catchers if I can hold onto that needle. So yes you can learn at Joannes adult ed or a local quilt shop. It is wonderful. I may take up knitting for my hands- I also have arthritis and maybe that will be good for them....See MoreReborn Restoration Hardware Reinvented - What!!??
Comments (86)I agree! When I got the catalog and took a look, I thought...what the hey!?! Not only was the stuff weird and unappealing, the catalog was a mess and barely readable. Whoever published/printed their catalog used WHITE print against LIGHT backgrounds...I couldn't read what some of the product descriptions and prices said! Yet someone at RH had to approve the catalog before it went out. I hate to say it, but that person should be fired. That was a total dereliction of his/her job duties to let that catalog go out like that. I've been to our local store several times this year. They renovated it, repainted, redesigned it, etc. NOW they don't carry much of what is in the catalog. The clerk will have to order it online for you (no shipping fees that way). I couldn't take a look at some things I had seen in last year's catalog, because the store doesn't have even a sample sitting out (like task lamps). They did have samples of most of their drapes, and that's where I bought my velvet drapes. They were clearly of a superior quality to Pottery Barn's and others that I'd seen. But they had to order them for me; they didn't have enough panels in the store to cover my window (and this was a basic camel velvet that I'm sure they sell a lot of). All their furniture is too large for my small house and my taste. I threw away the catalog, and I look at their stuff online. I figure that they are trying to become lean and mean in these recessionary times, hence the small inventory in the store. But there's no excuse for that horrible catalog. (BTW, the task lamp I bought and the velvet drapes are absolutely beautiful and high quality. They cost a pretty penny, but at least I got my money's worth. I couldn't be happier with them, and with their customer service, which is top rate.) As for their weather-washed huge furniture, another poster mentioned it was a Swiss style or something. Maybe. But furniture from Sweden, Norway, etc., is usually small scale with simple lines. The RH furniture was enormous, with round feet, large bulky posts, besides being that unattractive gray. I can't imagine that style will sell much. It certainly doesn't suit me. But then, I probably wouldn't buy furniture from RH to begin with, because of the price....See MoreDecorating with Reborns, a new thing? (warning-Long!)
Comments (123)From OP: "She pointed to the table and chairs and I went to speak and noticed a bassinet in the corner of the kitchen. I immediately lowered my voice, apologized if I was too loud and sat down. I asked "Babysitting the Grands today?" She walked toward the bassinet and with her finger motioned me to come over. Soon as I got to the bassinet she put her index finger to her lips and did the 'ssshhhh' very quietly. She pulled the blanket away and told me she wasn't babysitting but his was her baby, Joey and that Joey's sister was napping in the other room. Long story a bit shorter --- she showed me Joey's sister, dressed in a really soft, fluffy sleeper, sucking on a pacifier." This is a person blurring reality and her "collection" You don't have to be quite (finger to lips shhhh) if they're dolls. Bread, wine bottles and grapes are not exclusive to vinyards. In fact I have all three here in my little rental hovel and normally have all three in my own home, and we don't grow grapes. We have friends who do own a vinyard, and gosh darn it, they have the same three items in their home. Now to blur reality with fantasy you would need to offer your guess a slice of plastic bread, or maybe sniff the air and wax poetic over the scent of the plastic bread, but just having it sit around isn't blurring reality. Much like doll collectors who have dolls on display. They are enjoying the beauty of the dolls. If they then take them down and have a tea party with them (and they're over the age of say 12) they're having some issues with reality. Now off subject...Organic...DANG YOU!!! Did you beat me to something? :oP I have two of the lovely chocolate ribbed coverlets for my master bedroom. I love them...but must admit, the cats do too and they're getting furry :( I'm going to have to buy something else (but it will be seffra! cuz you've ruined me for anything else). Now I'm going to go talk to my sheets! :oP Back to your regular (goofy) programing ladies!...See Moredianamo_1
