I live south of town. Been watching the tornado pass thru Birmingham on tv. l85 mph winds.

I have a big tree that snapped during the morning storm.

Reports on northside of town, that an apartment complex has been toppled. Roofs off homes. Warning people not to go in that area.

My area is now getting ready to be under the warning the warning. It's the second round of storms following the recent tornado that just passed thru Birmingham.

I have my place of safety to go to.

so very scary... try to stay safe everyone.

Gosh, we're hearing this on the news and thinking of you. Keeping fingers crossed that everyone is okay.

Hope you all stay safe! We had to move patients into the hallways again this morning in Lexington. Tornado warnings tonight until 1 am. I sure hope we don't get woke up again by the sirens.

I hope my great aunt and the rest of the family are ok down there too. I just texted her daughter.

At Least 54 Dead in Storms Across South

A deadly tornado stretching a mile wide tore through downtown Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Wednesday evening, destroying homes and buildings and bringing further damage to a region already battered by storms.

Across the state, at least 25 people were killed by storms on Wednesday alone, said Valerie Hayes, a spokeswoman for the Alabama Emergency Management Agency. But that number did not include any deaths from Tuscaloosa, where 15 people were confirmed dead by the mayor's office and 100 were said to be injured, The Tuscaloosa News reported. Earlier in the day, with the damage spreading and the death toll rising, Gov.
Robert Bentley declared a state of emergency. And The Associated Press reported that across the South, storms Wednesday killed 11 people in Mississippi, two in Georgia and one in Tennessee.

Son and his wife, went to a friends home with a basement, and they were fine.

News will show the sad results tomorrow.

I slept thru the bad one that came thru my area at 6:30 am.

Eerily quiet here, as most restaurants, traffic lights, etc are still out at 10 pm. Dark all around. At least I didn't lost power.

Hope Country Bumpkin is ok.

So far, so good for Bumpy.

There's a lot of damage in our area but nothing like Tuscaloosa or the north Birmingham areas. We had several waves of the storms move through. Our power was off for about 12 hours but that's nothing when we consider the loss of life and devastation. The news is saying that there are 53 confirmed deaths in Alabama at this point. It's been a long day and evening.

Kathleen, I hope you've talked to your family by now. I haven't heard any mention that their area has been badly hit or affected and I'm hoping they are well.

Joan, I was happy to hear that Bump is okay.

DD and family are in Birmingham. They are ok but SIL's work building was destroyed just minutes after SIL left the building. He saw the tornado as he was driving home. We don't know what this means for the business yet. I hope there was plenty of insurance on the inventory and building. The building was NW of Birmingham in the Forestdale area.

I understand that debris from Tuscaloosa was found in the Anniston area. That's a pretty good distance.

I hope you're right Lana. No news from my relatives. I hope my great aunt was at her daughter's house last night. She has a basement.

Morning news was full of these storms. 32 people in Mississippi died. Some small towns are just rubble. So many homes torn up. But we fared better than Alabama, so many dead there. The video of the monster storm trashing Tuscaloosa makes me want to cry. So glad you are o.k., Glenda, and hope the others are.

This is where I am first thing this morning. I want to check out that you all made it through the terrible weather.

My emotion is running up and down like a roller coaster right now. Watching the news and seeing the devestation in Alabama is so hard to control the tears. Then, the news switched over to the royal wedding, showing where Kate has her hair done, etc.. Really! Are they for real?!?! I want to see the news happening here, in our US country.

At this time, I am really more concern about people in Alabama and other areas that the bad line of weather hit last night. I truly don't care about the Royal family at this time. I don't know whether the media in the US have a sound of mind or not. It's so idiotic!

This is so unbelievably tragic. I hope everyone is ok, but according to the news 194 (at this point) have been killed. Just terrible.

I had to take time and check in this morning to make sure all of the KT gang made it thru. I have been so worried..My prayers are will ALL involved

Storms didn't go that far south!

It's so hard for me to wrap my mind around the pictures I'm seeing. LOT of damage in the area where my MIL lives. We'd heard last night that her Church was destroyed. I just talked to her a bit ago....the Church is still standing...but damaged. Central unit is sitting on the roof. BUT...it could be so much worse.

This was the 1st time in years that the weather has really scared me.

Glenda, I'm glad your DS and family had shelter & you, too.

Still can't imagine what all those touched by these storms have seen and felt; the losses are so sad.

LindaLu, I thought about your SIL when I saw some pictures of the devastation in Forestdale. I hope all his co-workers made it out okay too and I'm glad he and family are okay.

There were cluster cells of tornados formed but not related to the F-5 that hit Tuscaloosa and north Birmingham. Twice last night there were 17 to 18 just outside of Centerville that moved through south Shelby County into Coosa County. CatLady (Judy) may have gotten some weather off of those systems so she may be without power or phone service. It was dark by then so the storm spotters live coverage was challenging. Hopefully, she and family are okay and spared damage or tragedy.

Maybe some of the other Alabama peeps can check in soon with a first hand report and let us know how they have fared.

Lindyluwho, I've been thinking about your daughter and family--remembered they live around Birmingham. So glad they are alive and safe. It doesn't sound too good for SIL's workplace, but hopefully the inventory can be saved!

Thanks Glenda. I didn't know what direction she lived in. Glad to hear it wasn't near her, but so sorry for those in the paths of the tornados.

We fared OK, lost power on first swipe at 6:40 am. It came back sometime early this morning.
That really is a big surprise. I live in Vestavia Hills, and and anything east-south east of Hwy 31 is a mess,
like something from a disaster movie set. Trees are all over the roads, houses, cars. Power lines ripped off.
And we did not had a tornado, just winds.
I run a deli in a store; the neighbourhoods around us are without power, so we're feeding everyone, all day long.
I feel ready to keel over, but ... cannot complain.
There is a talk of more bad weather coming next week ...

My goodness Vetaal. You and I are almost neighbors and I'm a frequent shopper at Western. It's a small world indeed.
We lost power just after the tornado sirens went off Wednesday morning. I ventured out during a lull a few hours later to buy bags of ice at Western and got stuck in a major traffic jam. The surrounding area around Rocky Ridge was a disaster zone. Those straight line winds have a powerful punch.
