About Doc Martin...

Thanks to recommendations here I spent the afternoon watching the whole first season of this show. I really enjoyed it. Oh, I was able to do this for free online because of my membership in Amazon Prime. Gotta love it.

I watched the first 4 seasons at Netflix.
I just wish that I could now find season 5
somewhere!

I'm seeing a new season on TV. Would that be season 5? It's after the baby is born.

I just have to laugh at "Martin." What a grumpy, social misfit!

It is naturalised in Australia and invasive in some places. So check first if you are going to get some. Also invasive in S Africa. It loves walls, pavement cracks, anywhere with sharp drainage and slightly alkaline soil. Spreads by wind born seed and self sows widely. Here's some in a wall near me, along with Campanula portenschlagiana, another wall loving self sower and Ceanothus.

Marti, I know that Craig Ferguson is a multi talented man, and he and another man created the Doc Martin character, and he was the gardener in Saving Grace. He has several more scripts and movies to his credit, so I cannot say whether the one you ran across is it or not. But I can guarantee you one thing.....you will be amused and really LOVE the movie. The movie SAVING GRACE, the two Doc Martin movies, and the Doc Martin series episodes, are all laid in the Cornwall fishing town of Port Isaac. Now I am interested in looking into ROSEMARY & THYME.... I do thank you for introducing me to the Doc Martin series, which dovetailed so well with Saving Grace. It is the kind of story.,..and scenery....that I can get my DH to watch. Common gardener, like you AND like moi, and then a real horticulturist, like I have a friend who is one of those, but she is so laid back it is hilarious, always working on HER huge property, and doing volunteer work related to gardening and clean waterways. Really a fine friend. Maybe you need to find yourself such a friend too? I sure have learned a lot of Latin from her. I have a really great story to tell about her and volunteer work, but this is not the place to tell it.

I watched a few episodes online and they're running it on PBS now. There's some amusing spots and I like the premise. I really *want* to like it but can't get into it. Some of the accents are too heavy and hard to understand which makes it difficult to follow too. Either it's going to take a while to get used to it or I don't know if I can get into it. Maybe I just need to sit and watch it from the beginning to get used to the cast and watch it grow a bit. There's a lot of the britcoms I really enjoy but can't really get into this one yet.

I saw him in another pbs series, he is playing Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, I had to look twice to make sure it was him lol. He really looks different in that. I liked the Doc Martin series for a while then lost interest in it....I'm not sure why...but I thought about the boots first too when I read the title *snork. :)

Joann -- Martin was a successful London surgeon who developed a fear of blood. A new position was found for him as a general practitioner in a village in a small seaside town in Cornwall. He had spent childhood summers there with his aunt, who still lives there.
Martin has excellent diagnostic skills but extremely poor social skills and an awful bedside manner. (I'm guessing Asperger's syndrome.)
That makes for some very amusing interactions with the local folk, patients and all, and the series contains many dramatic and moving moments as well. We love the show.

Some major changes in this last Season...but it still
has me hooked. Wouldn't some of those "villagers"
absolutely drive you bonkers? No wonder he is
so cranky. LOL LOL

Read recently that they are going to produce another. I loved how the final one ended, it is hard to create in my mind how they can make this any better. If you are patient enough to watch episodes in 15 min. splits, Yahoo has all of them. Just key in Doc Martin and go to the ones you want.

We've also enjoyed Martin Clunes ("Doc") in a sit-com called "Reggie Perrin". Not AS good, but still laugh-out-loud.
