Well, what are the other wall colors in adjacent rooms? Perhaps go the that color selection and choose the lightest hue available?

I do agree, tho, it is dark. Why did you choose chocolate?
Actually I can't make out too much. You say the floor is tile? Looks a tad like laminate?? I don't know. Like I said, just a tad dark.

If planning to sell and this area is a non-area, go back to ivory, beige, decorator white. It opens up the space and just looks brighter. Get larger sconces (larger wattage bulbs) and maybe a nice berber runner with mirrors/pics on the walls?

Thanks - The room it goes into is a small burgundy hall way. It is going to be redone as well. The bathroom that is off the mudroom is a light blue. This is the color of the bathroom:

The Chocolate Brown is way too dark - not sure what I was thinking.

The floor is actually stick tile - it's some kind of wood looking stuff made by Allure.

I'm hoping to sell in a year.

oooh, I doooo love that blue. Maybe go lighter? With the white woodwork and darker floors, I think you will have a winner there. (Just very very light blue) ;)

Since the dark color works with the dogs, what about putting up chair rail, painted your trim color (which appears to be some variation of white) and then go to a light color on the top half of the wall - that is what the eye will appreciate most anyway. Maybe even a shade of the blue that is in the bath?

Track lighting from the ceiling lights would be a great way to bring light into the area, and wash the walls with some light.

Add a couple of large posters framed in brushed nickel to bounce some light, something with some color and movement, could go on the long wall we see. Or a collection of framed mirrors of all shapes and sizes, which would bounce light, be interesting, but all be small enough that it wouldn't matter what was being reflected in the mirrors.

I like the blue. You could go with the bathroom color, or tell the paint store to make it 25% lighter? If you're going to sell, you definitely want to go more neutral. A grayer blue would also work and I second the track lighting, or some sort of lighting.
As it is now (in the picture), it just looks like a hallway. If you're trying to make this into a mudroom, and are thinking about resale, you should think about adding items people want in a mudroom. Hooks or pegs to hang coats, some place for shoes, a magnetic chalkboard, maybe a thin bench?

I would lighten the color and add some large artwork on the walls.

I can't tell from the pics how much space there is. Can you add a storage bench with shelves above it. Maybe large storage baskets --to keep dog food in? I am not sure what you need to use the space for.

Why do you want to change the floors? They look good in the pic. If they are in good shape, they are probably easier to keep clean than tile grout would be.

Since you are planning on selling, maybe all you should do is lighten the paint color and chose items that will be of use in your new home.

There is definitely enough space to add a storage bench with a shelf above it that has hooks next to the door. Or something similar.

I want to change the floors because they are stick floors - I guess I just figure that's a "no-no" for resale. The floor works well with the dog's muddy feet though - so I may just leave it for now.

I will definitely do all the trim in white (and the basement door), and paint the walls a blue or blue gray.

Great ideas - now I just need to get to work! Going to look for some art work and/or mirrors for the walls. It's just so "blah!" at the moment.

crazyzoo - here is a recent thread where someone was looking for blue/gray. There are a number of paint color suggestions which may help you get started. You may want to post on the Real Estate forum to see how much the peel and stick inpacts you at resale, or see if a local realtor would be willing to come through your home now and help you prioritize what needs to change or improve. I'd leave the floor in the mudroom and go with Les' idea for lighter on the top half of the walls. I'd maybe change the floors if it were a kitchen and you were hoping to get more.
The upper half could be lighter to brighten it and leave the bottom dark for practicality.

The only reason I don't think I should do the bottom/top thing is because the other side of the hall that you can't see is actually paneling (hate it LOL!). I just don't think it'd work well that way?

I guess I'll keep the stick tile - at least for now. I do have a Realtor friend that has offered to do a walk through for me - Just not at that point yet. I've only lived here a little under 3 years - and all of the guts (a/c, heater, etc) are just 3 years old. The house is old - but it was completely redone before I bought it.

Anyone ever use this Yolo Colorhouse paint at HD? I was thinking about the Water color. It says 'For giving a slightly reflective finish to walls and trim' and 'highly washable'. Or maybe another one of their colors? Never used this paint before..

I just ended up buying Going Gray by Olympic. It's a light gray. Hopefully that will look better. Just couldn't get into the blue for that area - don't know why LOL. The trim / doors will be white.
