Congrats on the new addition, seems like you're having a lot of fun decorating with your daughter. If you're using wood letters you could just use the command wall hanger stuff, I've heard it works great. I would put them on the bulkhead and not underneath. An alternative to the wood letters would be vinyl letters which are becoming very popular and would give you the flexibility to use different fonts, colors and sizes.

Thanks for the idea of command wall hangars, I had not thought of that. I prefer the wood letters and found a site that makes them in Canada. They are almost identical to the SR ones on the photos. We would just have to paint them and once we decide on wall color then I think we will pick 2-3 colors to go on them. My concern is crown moulding, so if I put it up in room and if so where on the bulkhead wall.
You say to hang letters on bulkhead , then I guess I could carry around on other wall and just hang them there also but they would not protrude as much.

Well that does sound very cute Lyban! I don't know if I can convey what I'm envisioning correctly but will try. My thought really is, if you can't change or remove the bulkhead, why not use it to your benefit by bringing the curtain up to where the bulkhead starts which will give the window height. Instead of crown molding, do a chair rail trim that's maybe 3-4 inches thick and starts at the bottom of the bulkhead. Wrap the trim around the room just like SR did in her room. The ceiling is lower so the letters will need to be a tad smaller, and will still need to be attached to the wall but if you like, you can hang them so they look as if they are sitting on the rail. I hope that makes sense. I can see it in my minds eye and it's adorable!

I think I am understanding. A few questions, when you say bring the curtain up to where bulkhead starts do you mean to the top or bottom of bulkhead.
Next question, would I put the chair rail on the wall with bulkhead or just the adjoining two walls.

I would put the chair rail on the bottom of the bulkhead and bring it all around the room. Then bring the curtains so they sit just underneath the bulkhead.

At the bottom of the bulkhead where the wall ends and the bulkhead starts. Yes, you would have chair on the bulkhead so it will go continuously around the room.

I agree with the other responses here. Just check to make sure your bulkhead is tall enough for the letters. The link you provided to the wood letters says they range from 6 to 14 inches tall. Is your bulkhead tall enough for that size?

Yes, that's the idea! You got it! Then maybe you can put the baby's name over the window. You can use all kinds of things for the chair railing, with a babies room you may want to get creative. There are some with a thicker edge on them. If you go to a lumber yard they will have a variety to choose from.

Ohhhh....this is gonna be so CUTE! I totally agree with bringing the curtains right up to the bottom of the bulkhead. It will make for a much more streamlined look.

My only thought is that I think that where you have the level of the alphabet-rail it a tad too high. Don't feel compelled to go with the height of the bulkhead for your rail. Just ignore its existence. Look at Sarah's photo--she does not even do the letters over the curtains.

I'd bring the rail down to the level that the current cornice. Then your letters will not look jammed up there either. I think it would do a lot to help the room feel less "tall" as well. Does this make any sense at all, LOL!

I forgot to add that I'd forgo any crown molding. Rather, I'd just paint the upper portion and the ceiling with the same color so it blends seamlessly.

After further inspection, I notice that Sarah has her rail placed at the same height as the top of the window trim. Maybe that was on purpose.

hockeymon4: I just saw your post. Good point, I am going to have to measure that bulkhead I do not know what size it is.
Tommorrowisanother: Another good idea to not go so high with shelf, so many great responses. I think you might be right about not having the alphabet too crowded up by ceiling.If I remove the cornice that is there now, and then maybe put the shelf all around like you say at that level and not put the alphabet over window it might just solvve the problem without bringing attention to the bulkhead.

I love that nursery. After seeeing that episode, I had to go hunt down those window panels. FYI- they are from ikea. I'm not sure where I'm going to use them, but they were too cute to pass up!

What an adorable room and how exciting to be able to help decorate the babies room. Here's my idea which happened to be very close to what the other gals came up with. My changes would be to have the top of the trim, possibly an upside down baseboard trim, be level with the bottom of the bulkhead. You've have to build a bit of framework under the bulkhead where a dowel rod could be used/hidden for the WTs to be hung from. This gives you a bit more room for taller letters and also give the bulkhead a deliberate decorative touch.

pps: Thanks for the curtain info. I was at Ikea a few weeks ago for something else and saw them. I was thrilled because I was thinking that they were probably from some expensive designer store and would cost a bundle.
Justgotabeme: Thankyou for that drawing. This gives me another option to think about. I am going to measure that bulkhead today if possible if I go to my daughters and then have a better idea where that shelf should go.
