It is! Set in seams, odd template sizes. Put it in your "somday..." file and if you like the look of it, try finding a simpler pieced star block that you can put on a blue background with the scrappy fabrics. BTW--you do know about Quilter's Cache, don't you? It's my all-time favorite website for quilt blocks.

No, not aware of Quilter's Cache. I do have a few free
pattern web sites that I look at and get ideas... then I go
out and find a book with that pattern and pine over it for
a while until something else catches my eye, then I move on
to something else and pine over THAT for a while. I really
don't want to get into having two projects going on at the
same time. Then I'll get overwhelmed and start another project
and go on from there... I know me...

I've already got a stack of quilt books... oye!

My 'someday' file - is getting pretty big now.

And someday someone will have to tell me what a 'set in seam' is. :)

tom8to, a set-in seam is one that is used when a straight across seam isn't possible. Like setting a triangle point into an opening with a point - you would have to sew down one side of the triangle, matching up the point into the opening, then turn the fabric and sew back along the other side of the triangle. It's kind of a 'tab A into slot B' kind of thing.

Set-in seams are easier for some people to do by hand than by machine. I just avoid them! There are so many great patterns that don't require it and I stick with those.

Another type, besides straight, curved and set-in, is a partial seam. That's one that you would sew part of the way, then add other pieces, and usually come back and finish the unsewn part of the seam by setting in another piece. Really, a partial seam is just a set-in seam that you don't finish right away. Sort of.

Confusing or helpful... not sure which...

Yes I have done this pattern.It really isn't hard. But I just wanted it as the center of the quilt with some other pattern to make up the size I want.I am just stuck on what it should be. So right now it is a ufo.

Thanks so much for the link. I'm thinking paper piecing might be the easiest way to do this pattern. It looks like its two different blocks and repeated over and over. I've been looking for a baby quilt pattern and I believe this is it! Peg

Welllllll. It can be paper pieced. Its one block that's turned. Now to learn to paper piece!! Sharon did you paper piece yours? I've never done pp and I don't think this is the pattern to learn on. Darn! Peg
