Extra thick quartz or marble countertop question -
Comments (3)Thank you both for all the info! What I'm gathering is that man-made materials (I'm including quartz surfaces in that bunch) are fabricated at a standard thickness, and the edges are glued together to appear more substantial. On natural materials, however, your answer is what I was expecting/hoping for, mnhockeymom - it didn't seem right to glue two marble slabs together! I will work with the stone yards to find the right slab. If anyone has any other materials in interesting thicknesses, I'd love to hear about them / see pics to see how yours came to be. Thank you!!...See MoreCounters being fabricated - Is this edge too thick?
Comments (20)I live in NorCal as well and 2cm slabs are standard here. However I bought Caesarstone Arctic White for my kitchen and was surprised to find that it was only available in 3 cm slabs. My contractor had to remove the 3/4" plywood top he'd put on my cabinets so the Caesarstone could be installed, otherwise it would have made the counter too high and the stone wouldn't have hidden the edge of the plywood. The downside to the 3cm with no laminated edge is that the top drawers seem to be closer to the slab and the finger pulls that I installed on each drawer had to be inset a little into the top of the drawer so that they wouldn't rub on the stone above. I have 2 cm marble on my island and it seems the drawer pulls aren't as close to the stone. This wouldn't be a problem if you used drawer pulls that were screwed into the face, rather than the top, of the drawers....See MoreSpectrum Quartz counter tops
Comments (149)We ended up going with Pristine, and it's absolutely beautiful. It's been a year, and it looks brand new, no stains or issues. I love it even more than expected. My husband is thrilled and the whole room looks elevated. We used BM Simply White for the cabinets and SuperCore oak natural for the floors. Check my profile for pics in progress (old floors, tho). We've chosen Satori venatino marble subway tiles for the backslash and all these whites are compatible-- no issues with warm/cool undertones fighting. I'll be sealing the marble on all 6 sizes via a dunk in 511 sealer. Can't wait to see it finished-- the marble could've been risky against a marble-look quartz, but it looks absolutely perfect and gorgeous together....See Morefaucet hole drilled too close to backsplash in quartz countertop
Comments (15)Thank you to everyone who responded, very much appreciate your iput. The owners of the company agreed to replace the counter at their cost and do it correctly - this was achieved only because we could back up our claims of an incorrect install based on the information provided by you all! Sammy - unfortunately, my sister lost her two dogs and cat in the fire; she was not home. The cause of the fire was the slight reverberations of the built-in microwave caused a screw in the mounting bracket to slowly over time rub the the casing off an electrical wire in the wall; the fire investigator had never seen this before and is now using this in their training. She would trade all of her possessions to have her pets back, a year later it's still devastating for her to have lost them. Again thanks to all and hope everyone has a happy, healthy, safe and prosperous New Year!...See Moreazstoneconsulting
