Pullout Trash - Soft Close?

Does anybody have soft close on their trash pullout? DH loves all our drawers and dorrs with soft close and is disappointed that the trash does not have soft close as well. (I have to admit I did not discuss that detail with the cabinet builder. Just specified soft close throughout - except for the toekicks whch were SUPPOSED to be soft open - but are not.)

We have soft close on ours and love it. Esp. with teens in the house.

I have soft close on mine - but then, mine was an Ikea hack, using one of their drawers, which all have soft close as standard. Since it's the door that gets opened and closed more frequently than any other, I'm very grateful.

Those latches are fine if the people in your home will actually DEPRESS it before trying to shut the cab. Out of 5, I was the only one who made the effort and I have a few very worn areas on the ones that are used by the family. I don't know that you can add anything to the existing glides. You might have to change them in order to get what you want. I recently installed an Ikea drawer, with the dampeners added, to my cabinet for a trash pullout. My 8 yr old had a moment before he figured out he needed to pull a bit harder to get it open, LOL!

I did not like the white rubbermaid cans that came with mine. I purchased the actual REv a Shelf brand silver cans with lids online. The lids are hinged. I splurged too and got one silver lid and one green lid (for the recycle bin). You can find them on the rev a shelf website and then use the part numbers. I purchased mine from Kitchensource.com I believe. BUT, I WARN, they were RIDICULOUSLY expensive: I'm talking around $100 for the two cans + lids!! However, they do help a lot with the smell, although of course it is one more step to throw something away. The lids also help to keep the bags in the can.

If you're talking about the Haefele foot pedel, No. The foot pedal & soft close are working at cross purposes. The foot pedal works with a bungee cord whose function is to keep the pullout open. What keeps it closed is a strong magnet. Kicking the pedal releases the magnet, allowing the bungee cord to relax, and the pullout to open. Soft close works to keep the drawer closed. As soon as the drawer reaches a certain point, the soft close mechanism is pulling it the rest of the way to make it close. One trying to open, one trying to close, one will lose, and my guess is that it will be the soft close. You can still close it with using your hands, I do sometimes with my hip or knee. You just have to follow it through all the way till the magnet catches and it's fully closed.

I have nothing to add but thanks for the chuckle. Although my soft close doors don't always close with a bump of my hip. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. I wish I had an answer for you but I don't.

Ditto on the IKEA soft close. I'd hate not having soft close on that cab/drawer in particular.

We have the same as you, all soft close, except for the garbage. Our garbage has the two containers and our GC said that it wouldn't slam close on its own you would have to help it along with the weight. It hasn't been an issue.

We have the same set up as you.. with a double trash (recycling). Our cabinet maker said he doesn't make the trash soft close anymore b/c he was tired of fixing everyone's trash every other week.. People stuff so much into the trash that it would push down on the trash bins breaking the system , so he decided to stop making them that way.. It takes a minor extra push, but no big deal to us.

same - all soft close except garbage and spice rack. They tried to explain why, but to be honest I didn't understand. It's no biggie on the spice rack, but I do wish the garbage would "suck" closed.

We have the Hafele/Hailo toe-kick opener on our trash cab. Can't have soft close with that.

Our trash is a double trash / recycling. The spice pullout does not soft close either, but I guess I did not expect that one too. The trash I had thought would, but I would not want it to be finicky. Hmmm. Are the only soft close ones from Ikea?

Yes, mine is a rev-a shelf double trash pullout and it has soft close. I love it.

I also have soft-close on my double-bin trash cabinet, but not my 6" pullouts.

We have Blumotion drawer hardware throughout...full-extension, soft-close.

With two teens, our trash & recycle bins are always filled (stuffed!) prior to emptying. It's been almost 2 years and the soft-close is still working perfectly. Oh, and it doesn't need to be "helped along" to close.

Maybe it's the hardware your cabinetmaker uses? You could ask about Blumotion at least for the trash pullout...

However, as Cat_Mom mentioned, if you want a foot pedal for hands-free opening of the trash, then don't worry about it b/c you cannot have soft-close with a foot pedal. That's what has stopped my DH from agreeing to the foot pedal (that we already bought!)...he doesn't want to lose the soft-close!

Our Medallion trash pull out also has soft close.

Thank you to all. I think they used Rev-a-shelf for the trash, but I will ask to see if they can make it soft close. Perhaps they need to exchange the Rev-a-shelf glides with Blum.

Rev-a-shelf offers several trash/recycling pull-outs. The one I have has soft open and soft close.

I'm sorry I don't have the model number of the one I picked, but it was in the catalog that my cabinet maker had me look at. It is wood with double bins.

I really like the soft CLOSE part of the pull-out, however, the soft OPEN feature took some getting used to. It takes a bit more effort to open it. I am used to it now, but I'm not sure I would chose the soft open feature again. If you are trying to keep very young children out of the garbage it could be a good thing since I don't think it opens easily enough. My 4-year old can open it with some effort though.

Not sure if Rev-a-shelf offers one with JUST the soft close or not. I tried to look on their website, but it doesn't offer much detailed information.

There are a lot of people who confuse soft close with self close-Mine self closes but does not soft self close-and it slams! I wish there was an aftermarket damper for those last 2 inches!
