yep, another trash pullout question
Comments (6)I have the Hafele silver pedal opener--love it! It is harder to close the door (than it would be w/out the opener) because of the bungees, but I really like being able to open the trash cab without touching the handle with icky hands. Our cab installer kept playing around to get the door to close more flush with the adjacent cabs during our install. I called Hafele and was told to have our KD/cab guys contact them and they'd arrange to send their own tech out to take a look and make any necessary adjustments. I made the appt with an area rep who came along with the tech (who lives a few towns over from us). They were both as nice as could be, made a few simple adjustments (tightened some screws mostly) and left me their cards if we have need of their services in the future. I do find that if I don't close the door tightly (with a little force), it doesn't close as tightly/flush as I'd like. Then, I just pop it open, and close it again. We have a full height 24" wide door on our trash cab BTW. The only time I ever find the pedal opener to be annoying in the least, is if I'm cleaning up the kitchen, and end up closing and opening the door a million times because I keep thinking I've thrown out the last piece of garbage, but I keep coming across one more piece of trash to toss out!...See MoreCan't do soft close w/ foot pedal on pullout trash?
Comments (4)I just don't see how it could possibly work. The way the foot pedal works is that the bungee is stretched out so always trying to relax. If it relaxes, the door opens. When closing the door, the bungee is stretched. The foot pedal magnet holds the bungee at a stretch when the door is closed. So, in order to close the door, you have to push it till the magnet catches. You have to follow through because if you let go before the magnet catches, the bungee will relax, thus opening the door. The soft close catches the drawer just before it closes and pulls the door the remaining inch or so till it shuts. It's pulling the drawer shut s-l-o-w-l-y. So what you would have is the soft close trying to pull the trash door shut while the bungee is trying to relax and open the door. Who's gonna win? My money is on the bungee. Because if you have soft close, you know that in the process of the drawer closing, you can always grab it and open it back up. The soft close is not going to fight you. As far as I can tell, ya gotta pick one or the other. My kitchen is now over 5.5 years old and has the soft close on all the drawers except the trash pull out where I have the pedal. I'm used to it. I don't think of my trash cabinet as the same as the other drawers. It's become second nature to me to just push it all the way shut, often times with my hip. You know, in the almost six years since the kitchen was completed, I don't think I've ever thought the trash was going to soft close, but I've many times thought there was a foot pedal on another drawer!! LOL....See MoreSoft close and Pedal to open trash/recycling drawer
Comments (3)Thanks for trying to help me. I honestly don't know what kind of soft close hardware or glides I have. The cabs are Thomasville. On the drawers that have soft close on them, when I pull out the drawer, the rails stay inside the cabinet box. If I want to remove a drawer, there are little clips under the drawer that I have to click in order to remove it. Like this: (pic from Thomasville's website, it was easier) "> On the wide deep dish drawers, they don't have soft close. When I pull the drawer out, the rails stay with the drawers. I bent over to look to see if there was a name on them, but there isn't. They are full extension, as are all of our drawers. Like this: (pic from Thomasville's website) "> I think that if I have to choose between the pedal opener, and soft close, I'll choose soft close. I know that it's a Rev A Shelf, because the cabinet man was just here yesterday and had to replace it. Trash/Recycling like this: (also from Thomasville's site) "> Anyhow, that is the type I have. I want to get soft close on the deep dish drawers, as well as the trash/recycling drawer. Thank you!...See MoreSoft Close to replace existing Trash Pull-out?
Comments (1)I have nothing to add but thanks for the chuckle. Although my soft close doors don't always close with a bump of my hip. Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. I wish I had an answer for you but I don't....See MoreFori
