a good PB who does pool, spa and outside kitchen in Houston

We are about to move to Houston, and are looking for recommendations for someone that can design and install it all - the pool, spa, decking and outside kitchen. Many of the PBs that people recommend on here only appear to do the pool/spa. We are thinking travertine or Peacock Pavers for the pool deck / patio / outdoor kitchen area. Would love a built in fire too. Probably a rectangular gunite pool, with a low back wall with water feature, and square spa, as we dont have much room (7500 sq ft lot in West u Place with a McMansion). Please tell us who you recommend for quality service and construction or give me their website. Winter build. Or should we go with separate contractors?

Also, how does one get financing for a pool nowadays? pool loan, home equity line? Our mortgage company said that lenders will no longer allow the pool to be added onto the original mortgage.

There are a few Houston builders on here that are a one stop shop. I am not sure if they all come to your area. I do know a few that do and that can accomodate. Not alot of builders like working inside of the loop.

The only one that I am not sure of that comes to your area is A-bear. For the most part he is contebt with Sugarland.

Isn't Sienna Plantation in the jurisdiction of Missouri City? If so, their permitting and inspections process is very long and somewhat arbitrary in nature. I just finished building one in Missouri City and it was problematic with the city at every step. They would make up requirements that were not published anywhere. I have built pools in a lot of places and never had so many silly requirements. They are nice folks at the city, but I doubt I would ever build there again. One thing these cities forget in their attempt to govern construction in their city is that it costs you the homeowner a lot more money to get a pool there than elsewhere. Pearland is fine...they have permitting and inspections but they publish their requirements and the inspectors do not stray from them. Anyway, if Sienna Plantation is in Missouri City, permits and inspections should have been obtained by your PB.

Hey Janet - BEAUTIFUL pool. I'm glad to see it came in just right for you guys. I'm also in Cypress. Actually, our home is up closer to Tomball (2920 and Cypress Rosehill area), but my law firm is near Jones and Grant. I just had my FIRST meeting with a PB tonight, and we're excited, but COMPLETELY overwhelmed. Do you mind giving me the full name of your PB? If you had a really good experience, I'd love to speak to them and get a bid. I'd to get at least 4 or 5 bids before I pick a PB. My wife and I have an interesting situation in that we have a LOT of room in the back yard (we are on 4/5 acre lot in the forest), but we have two massive trees that we want to work around AND build an appx 800 sq foot outdoor living room/kitchen/bar. We need JUST the right PB to make our pool integrate with our house, our lot, and our forest. We really want to do this right, and it looks like your PB did a great job! (Although I'm very impressed at your design work!)

So sorry I have been MIA and didn't post finished pics yet. We found at a few weeks ago that we are expecting a baby (our first!!!) and I started a new job, so I have been a little distracted! Somehow, the pool being done was the least exciting thing that happened that week :-) The pool started filling with water on Oct 1st (3 weeks and 1 day from the dig) and we were swimming on Oct 3rd! I will try to post pictures this weekend (I promise!). Gardenlady: We have had zero problems with Brad and are very satisfied with how quickly things were done. He was always available via cell phone and we always dealt directly with him. I am very happy we chose him to build our pool. No complaints!

myredfiveo - the sun/splash shelf is probably 10 foot wide (at the widest point) and about 6 feet into the pool area. We wanted a larger than normal area to accomodate 2 lounge chairs (and a nice play area for our little one while we wait for her to learn to swim. Decking is mostly rainbow pea gravel, but with flagstone inlays (2) and a light colored Oklahoma flagstone border around the edge of the deck to dress it up. Of course our first choice would have been some kind of natural stone, but actually pleased with the look. Hopefully get pebblesheen acid washed and polished today to start filling with water - pictures above are nice, but I can only imagine what it will look like with water and balanced chemistry!

I do it all in the Houston area as well - Best Backyard Pools, www.bestbackyardpools.com, but I can also recommend another woman pool builder who specializes in your area (inside the Loop areas, building in small spaces). It is tougher than it used to be to get financing, but it is done all the time. Personally I build all the time for people relocating to Houston who roll their pool project into their mortgage. If you are trying to establish a cost basis for your home, particularly if you think you might be relocated again in the future, the wise thing to do is roll it into the mortgage.

Some of the best known in this area have already been mentioned. Another one I have been impressed with is Steve at Acclaim Pools. He is also in The Woodlands, but I bet he would also come into town on the off season. I don't think he frequents this forum, but the link to their site is below. Take a look at the gallery and see if you like what he does.

My builder is doing all, including the outdoor kitchen. He does not do landscaping though. Just hardscape.

I used Kelly at Atlantis. He did it all...pool, pergola, outdoor kitchen, and fire pit. I also went through Bank of Texas for financing and it was easy, great competitive rate, and no loan fees.
