February Lotto block

February Lotto block is going to be a little different!

You can pick any of the below heart pattern or pick one of your own. Rules are the finished block has to be 12 1/2 inches, so it the pattern is a paper pieced heart that is 3 inches you make 16 and put them all together to be a finished 12 1/2 inch block if the block size is 6 inches you make four, if it is a 8 inch finished you put a border around it to make it 12 1/2 inch, ect. The color is any shades of red or pink and white.

Every month I will post a block and fabric requirements for each month we are playing! For each block you send in (up to 3) your name will go into the hat for that month. The first day of the following month a name will be drawn from all blocks that arrive at my house on or before end of the month, these players have a chance at the drawing to be held the 1st of the month. Any blocks arriving after the end of the month will be forwarded on to the winner. All blocks sent in will be sent to the winner. If 50 blocks are sent in, get ready to win 50! There will be no splits of the pot! One winner each month.............For postage I am asking everyone to included a Dollar to cover postage and cost of the envelope to be mailed to the winner............with your block in your baggie include your name, address and forum name and your dollar.

Cathy, I am going to take a big huge stab at your problem - looking at it purely from an analytical, new piecer standpoint (as I do with all my work) I think the problems may be a combination of what you are doing- that because of the many seams, exponentially result in the block being to small in different areas. From my experience- please don't be offended if you know & already do this- these hints solved most of my problems. * you may be stretching the diagonal when you mark it - try laying it on a fine grit pc of sandpaper & mark it lightly with a fine pencil accurately. Now stitch it a thread width from the line - use an open toe presser foot if you have one - not the 1/4" with the little fence. Go ahead & sew the bonus - then cut between the 2 with scissors to avoid stretching with the rotary cutter if that's possible. *(Ricky Tims says) Press the stitches on the seam side and flip the piece up to the right side and press again (I like to add a shot of steam w/out moving the iron) *Use fine pins to match those points and seams - I find that if the center points are off - the block gets shortened and I lose the 1/4" at the outside. The more seams in the block - the worse it is off -as if that too little thread width in the beginning keeps negatively multiplying (You can tell, I'm not a mathematician). Your block is pretty - everyone has helped me immensely on this forum, and I hope some newbie, simpleton suggestions from me are helpful. As a seamstress, I want to produce the best work and I strive for exactness, so when I had some problems with a similar block, I read and read and this is what I came up with that solved the problem.

Ok gals, we have a few days left in February to work on our goals. Next month we'll have 3 more days so start thinking about the next list of goals. Great going, Salijo!!! You're fortunate to live close enough to your mother for visiting. Give her an extra hug from me the next time you see her. My UFO's are sadly neglected, but I have at least one thing done on my list and might be able to start another. I hope to have 6 things done on my New list by the end of the week and have completed a Comfort Winnie quilt (32"X45") and also a Bunnies and Bears (45"X58") quilt for great-granddaughter that weren't on my list...pic's in the Gallery. Question about Kona Red for Block Lottery

Hi Caroline! Welcome to the lotto! Just to clarify, for the February block, any true red is fine. We just want to avoid reds with too much yellow or blue in it If you want to use Kona solids, then "Red" (Manufacturer SKU: K001-1308) would work great. Also, "Cardinal" and "Lipstick" would work (as I have both of those in my stash). Not sure where you live, but Hobby Lobby and JoAnn's both carry some Kona solids in their store (and more colors on line). In my area, both stores carry Kona "Red" as well as Kona "Black" in the store. If you have any more questions, just let us know. Would these be red/white/pink hearts on a white background, or on any colour background? (red, pink, white-on-white, etc)

Let me clarify the colors. You can pick any color in the pink, or red family or any combo of them with white or WOW as a background fabric.

I was going to try to make at least 1, if not more. I usually wait till it is actually done though, before making it official, just in case it doesn't work out :)

Hello Vicki ~ will future monthly lotto blocks also be based around a holiday/seasonal theme or basic blocks? Ex: shamrocks for March, bunnies or eggs for Easter etc...? Thanks

No, not all the lotto blocks will be based on a holiday theme. I just picked it this way this month. If you have a lotto block you would like to see please let me know. I'm open for suggestions.

I'm excited to these, reds was great! I have to make mine, I know what I'm making just have to get back on the machine!

craftdee you know what we all have months like that. It is ok. It's not like birthday blocks or a swap where people are waiting on them. They turned out real nice this month and I just know the March blocks are going to be BEAUTIFUL! I'm hoping more people will join us next month.
