neesie, the mirror is pretty and so is the vessel sink, but I'm not so sure about using them together. The onyx seems to call for something less delicate than the daisy oval.

Since you're getting a new countertop, would you consider centering the sink? Extending the plumbing lines should not be too difficult or costly, and then you're good to go with a centered mirror/sink.

Thanks for the reply, abundantblessings. I had considered centering the sink except that would mean losing a drawer in the existing vanity in addition to re-doing the plumbing lines. The silestone people are making it very easy for me to match what I already have, thus the cost is very attractive. I love the vessel sink more than the mirror and still have the receipt for the mirror, LOL!

My other alternative is to go for a nice undermounted sink. It costs a little more than twice what I'm going to pay for the vessel sink and I don't LOVE that option.

I saw some nice, if not boring, rectangular mirrors last night. They are slightly larger than the oval so placement again becomes a problem. I'm guessing I just don't center it over the sink, but center a mirror slightly smaller than my 49" vanity over the vanity as a whole????

Nessie, before I read abundantblessings' post my first thoughts were also why not center the sink. You are going to so much expense and this can't be that big of a plumbing job.

If you are sure you don't want to move the sink, I would center the mirror over the vanity and not the sink. I can just imagine myself and DH both at a vanity - him over the sink and me trying to put on mascara. I think it would be easier to create visual balance on the counter than on the wall.

If you want to move the sink to the center I can show you how to modify the drawers so you don't lose them, that is if you or your DH are good with tools and building stuff. We had to modify the top drawers when we transformed the antique drssser to a vanity with an undermount sink. The usable space is cut down by 1/2. If you e-mail me I can send you the instructions and photo's.

If you keep the sink to the left I would get a large mirror to center on the vanity. Actually I'd get a large mirror just because both of you could be utilizing it at the same time.

Actually this sink would mainly be for handwashing. We have a double sink vanity just steps away. This is a hard bathroom to describe. We had an appraiser out a few years ago, scratching his head. He didn't know whether to list it as one room or two. He ended up calling it a one bathroom plus.

If I were to center the sink I might go with a granite countertop which would cost twice as much as the silestone. I'm thinking of keeping it off center and going with a rectangular mirror now, but no wheres as big as the mirror I took down. We don't use it at the same time, as I said the double vanity is steps away around the corner.

I'd either do a larger mirror, as bru said, or two rectangular ones (ignoring the fact that you have only one sink).

The mirror you picked out is a bit too old fashioned for the vessel sink.

if you like the mirror and can get another one..why not two oval mirrors side by side? No reason not to have a mirror on both sides of the vanity...sconces either beside..between or above them..

I have a guest bathroom with an sink that is not centered in the vanity. The vanity occupies the width of the room (as long as a bathtub). The PO covered the wall with an unframed mirror then centered an (ugly) strip fixture over the space. I took out the mirror and fixture, bought a nice vertical oval mirror and new fixture and centered them over the sink. It looks much better.

Since your area functions as a powder room, it actually makes some sense to leave the sink uncentered. You can use the space on the side, as I do, for decorative and functional items such as hand towels, small lamp, etc. and there is plenty of room to display them without messing them up. With a centered sink, you wouldn't have that decorating room.

The master bath is identical, and when I totally redid that one, I had the sink centered.

I just don't see the sink and the mirror together. Why don't you wait until the sink and countertop are in before you decide on a sink. I think you're going to want something with more bulk. And as ronbre suggested two mirrors would really make a lot of sense and look nice too.

I should be making the sink decision first, since the holes for it and the faucet have to be templated. Those items are more expensive than the mirror, anyway. I think I'll go with the vessel sink that I love and agonize over the faucet next.

I'm not feeling the double mirror since I just took out a huge expanse of mirror that I've been living with for years. We have the double set-up around the corner so won't have two people using it at the same time. Once I get the sink and countertop in I'll be forced to pick something out. At least I can always return it and pick another...not so easy with a templated countertop and mounted sink!

I'll probably be painting over the upcoming four day weekend. Going on e-bay now to bid on a light fixture I've had my eye on. Hope to post some more pictures by weekend. Thanks for all your opinions!

Nessie, did you look at the bathrooms thread in the gallery? You should be able to find tons of inspiration in there. There are so many drop-dead gorgeous baths there, of really all descriptions... and a few more in the Show Me Your Cottage Decor thread, too. Don't miss those! You can save your favorites to a folder on your desk top for future reference.

Green on bathroom walls? Won't that make your skin look sick when you look in the mirror? I like to stay in the red or brown tones for a bathroom, or peach -- just something that will flatter your skin. I don't like looking like a Martian to even myself when I look in the mirror, and heaven forbid I should look like one to a lover in the shower. lol!

You can either center the sink, or proceed as you're going and then I'd put something up on the wall to the right of the mirror to balance it... such as decorative plates, or a shelf with goodies on it, or pictures, or metal work, or something... preferably something with some 3-D shape and some texture to it, and some curves.

Thanks for the suggestions, oceanna. I'll have to try and find the gallery. As far as the green goes, we removed wallpaper in the green family and I was happy with that for years! I have to stay in that family because this powder room connects to a larger part of a walk through bathroom (which is actually where I put on my make-up and hubby shaves). This part of the bathroom is strictly for the toilet and handwashing.

Today I am returning the etched oval mirror and getting a plain oval mirror. The vessel sink I ordered arrived and it is impacting my choice for the vanity top. I will be looking at faucets today, I have to make that choice before I can order the solid surface vanity top because of hole size and placement. I plan on sinking the vessel slightly into the vanity counter. Decisions, decisions!

Anyone have a link to the bathroom gallery? Where do you find these things? It was the same in the kitchen forum, I could never find them (my gallery only showed the same old 8 pictures every day) but had people sending me links with tons of stuff! You guys are great!

Update: bathroom is painted, new light fixture hung, mirror being replaced by a rectangular medicine chest, new accessories purchased, vessel sink waiting for new vanity top.

I decided the Silestone tops at Home Depot just weren't calling to me. I went to granite place over the weekend and couldn't find a remnant I really wanted, either. That's okay, their estimate is $150 more than another granite place I dealt with when I re-did my kitchen. The only problem is its a little further away to go see what they have for remnants. So the bathroom is on hold, but lets hope not for long.
