Need help picking pool pebble finish color!

We are putting in our first pool near Houston, TX. I think I want turquoise water and was leaning toward Sandy Beach (PebbleTec) or Chilean Beach Gold (WetEdge) finish. Anyone have any experience with these? Will the water be too green? Am I the only person wanting turquoise water? I have a warm red brick home and thought the turquoise would be pretty but don't want water that looks like it has algae. HELP!! Any suggestions appreciated.

My pool is Sandy Beach Stonescapes. I picked the color to match my tile and brick. I also knew that the top edge of my spa was going to show the pebble, so I wanted it to look natural. I love the shelf and the top of the spa, but the water in my pool is not the shade that I had hoped. The pools that I saw with the Sandy Beach as examples were Pebble Tec. They were more blue than green. Ours isn't. The other thing that happened was that someone, I believe Husky, posted some pictures of a pool that they had done with a chocolate brown background. It was beautiful, so I wasn't worried about the darker tan background. Unfortunately I didn't get that color.

If I could do it again, I would stick with the same color stones, and insist on a lighter background that was more on the white side. Someone awhile back had a salt and pepper finish that was quite nice.

Good luck and INSIST on seeing the pools in person and don't rush. It has a lifetime warranty!

More around my blog. Go to January and February. I should have finished bloging, but when I was done with the pool, I was done!!!! By the way, they never did come to clean up, so we did.

I have turquoise water. I used Tropical Breeze Pebble Tec. I found Sandy Beach to be a pale greenish color. Jade Pebble Tec is also a nice turquoise color.

Anything on the green side will yied a nice turquoise color. I'm not familiar with all of the PebbleSheen or PebbleTec colors, but I've seen the Pebblefina Acquos and it produced a beautiful turquoise color for one forum member's (willweeverbedone's) pool. I've posted a link to a thread with a picture of his pool.

Thank you all!!! My e-mail is sheri at shweri dot com. Would love any photos. Very appreciative! Is ocean blue darker than midnight blue? I thought they were same. Or do smaller pebbles end up changing color? And thus, is Turtle Bay, which folks here love, loved more than Emerald Bay? Funny, I saw a photo of one, but not labeled. I said, whatever this color is, that's the one I'm going to get. Pebbletec let me know it was Black Pearl. I do love the black ones, but nervous they will be too pondy in some lights. Or affect resale down the road. But they are gorgeous. You all have me sold on abalone! That's one decision down! Ah, that may be why Turtle Bay is seeming loved over Emerald Bay! Turtle Bay has enough I don't need to add any, right? Thank you again. You guys have been more help than PebbleTec, builder, and PT installer! And thanks natural_one for the offer of photos! sheri

What did you decide? I am grouting my pool waterline and trying to decide what to do. I have a light glass waterline tile, that looks almost white/off white and I'm trying to decide if I go with a dove gray or lighter gray like silver. Send photos!

That’s going to be an issue for matching depth to the rest of the finishes as they are very thick. The pool would need to have been designed with a deeper recess around the waterline to accept that depth from the beginning. If the pool already exists, pick something else. Something that won’t rip off your skin by brushing up against it.

Niki- make sure that you double check that the color you like is rated for pools (they have a list). And if you can get about 6 pieces of the color to see the variation, id recommend it. Green looks AMAZING in pools. i wanted green or white. Blue came because of the price, I needed a ton of tile for the bond beam so I only had 2 options. I’m happy with it though. It’s very pretty. The other tile I used in my yard was a black and white from Arto. I have a built in bench above the pool where I added the tile. It’s a weird combo that just sorta works. We are now planting and finishing up the bench. Hope to one day be done to post pictures of the whole yard. We also did a fire pit area and a large outdoor bar. I posted some video and pictures on an Instagram account named “decoratingbynumbers”.

Thanks AM...

Scrap's right on both points...the sand color comes out more green.

We were shooting for the tropical turquoise look and we've been very pleased...no green at all. The fina is actually kinda mint color and the water comes out as shown. You can also link to more pictures by clicking on my username and tracking down the photo link. Tropical Breeze and Jade both use similar base tint.

Re: turquoise/blue water -- I fondly remember the illustrative Pebblefina color representations we did when we were building. You had described the water produced by Bella Blue as Windex-colored, and I compared the water produced by your Acquos Fina as Mint-flavored Listerine-colored.

And as for pool temps, the solar hasn't been much good with the cold/cloudy/rainy spring we've had :-( It looks like we may be turning the corner soon, though...

My neighbor has Sandy Beach and their water is very green. I wouldn't call it turquoise at all. I just think it always looks like it needs chems.

Here's Tropical Breeze. This pic shows the water mainly in shade, but there's a patch of sun so you can see the difference.

Both pools are beutiful. We are having our pool built, and trying to decide on which type of plaster/3M/pebbletec etc., and color is driving us crazy. The more I read in this forum the more confused I get! Too many choices. Guess it's all a matter of personal preference.

By the way, can't wait to discover Uno and Turboritas!!

"It has a lifetime warranty!"

The official warranty from Pebble Technology, Inc., is 5 years. Anything beyond that is warranted by the pool builder. If they go out of business, so does your warranty beyond the 5-year mark.

That said, the original pools that were "plastered" with Pebble TecÂ® more than 30 years ago are still in great shape.

Ours is Stonescapes by National Pool Tile, and you're right, if they go out of business we have no recourse in the future. My point was, make the right choice because you'll have to live with that choice a LONG time.

Elaina99 - did you ever pick a color? Just curious. I'm in the Houston area too and you and I have the same birthday! I just finished my pool, but I got white quartz aggregate b/c I'm cheap! Can't wait to see the real color after all the plaster dust is filtered out - it's cloudy blue right now. I got the Colorlogics light so I can play with colors at night.
