New Ipe deck - what to use to keep the color deep and rich?
Comments (15)See guys thats the thing, most Folks dont want me back all that often they want to go out there and enjoy the area so I usually get called when the finish has gone gray then Yeah it has to be stripped/acid wash. As I have mentioned before there is a twp ofice/plant 20 miles from Butler Manor so we talk on a regular they deffently do not recomend what I do and have done for several years. I know it works, seen it work and there is no reason for anyone not to be able to do it. This Oak poster seemed to be honestly wanting some info and got it. Anymore I dont get into this finish thing because we have beat it to death over here already but I figured what the Hay. J....See Morehelp!!! ipe deck problem
Comments (5)I just washed my deck with the Penofin step 2 cleaner. Very satisfied with it. It even got rid of the end sealer wax stains (with the addition of simple green but I don't think it was necessary). I plan on using the Penofin hardwood sealer. It wasn't easy though since I scrubbed the surface with a deck scrubber brush really well. Can't you get Penofin online somewhere if it's not available locally?...See MoreIpe deck Colorado New build questions
Comments (16)HI Mom ! its ok thread hijack is normal over here. TWP 100 series,I use the 116 on ipe, is a build coat finish at that poing the twp Folks and I agree. It's after the second coat they call wet on wet, I love saying that, that we differ. They, twp Folks there is a corp 20 miles from my shop, refuse to acknowledge or even talk about how I build coats with their product. Even after coming over and seeing it with their own eyes. I do it this way>> dont wait for anything but good weather to put the finish on a new outdoor project. Using twp 100 series put the first coat on right away put the second coat on, using the sprit of a sound mind, when you can that is not while its still wet to touch. Then leave it alone. You can put the second coat on in an hour,a day, a week well you get the idea I have found the first go around with outdoor finish will not last all that long no matter what you use. Come the early Spring clean up your deck and put on another coat or two durning good weather. The more coats the longer it takes to set up so be ready for that. Twp 100 series has not changed in 20 + years. I have not changed the way I put it on in 12 years. You can build coats with it to the point of a simi gloss with no pealing, lifting at all and you Never have to strip it off. The ol JonMon is signing off now, here is hoping all your beer never goes flat, your kids are above adverage, the irs sees it your way, your Harley is still runing good and Everyone at least one time in their life gets to taste a green chilli from New Mexico. Comments (6)" If pilot hole entered PT board, it would be very short distance." That may not have been good enough. The key is to set the depth of the pilot drill to the exact thickness of the decking, so the pilot hole does not drill into the joist at all. An issue with the PT Joists, is the joists shrink as they dry out. A screw that is set flush with the surface will protrude from the surface as the joist shrinks from drying. The result is the screw seems to have loosened, or pulled out from the hole. In my experience, this is more often the joists shrinking and expanding from the seasons, rather than the screw actually pulling loose. Try tightening the screws with a hand driver. If they're too tight to turn by hand, then the joist shrinkage is likely the culprit, and not the pilot holes. To tighten the screws back down, you'll need a heavy person and a small block of wood for them to step on, to concentrate the load as necessary....See Moreaceshigh73
