First take lots of pictures so that you can look at them after you pull off the wallpaper. Then your sore fingers will feel better. And post the pictures here so that you can get more advice than what you already know to do: lose the wallpaper! :)

There's a post called something like "Read me first keep on front page" by Beuhl that should be on the first or second page. Deep inside it are instructions. It also has other useful tidbits on remodeling.

If you need help on wallpaper, etc. you might more wisely post on the Decorating forum. We're hard core here--wear a hardhat when you post on the Kitchens Forum.

Head on over to Photobucket.com and set up an account. The upload process is pretty easy if the pictures are saved on your hard drive or flash drive. Once you've saved your pictures onto photobucket, put your mouse over the picture you want to share. It should pop out a box that has Share:Edit:Delete:Move on a blue background. There are 4 titles below that from top to bottom: Email & IM, Direct link, HTML code, and IMG code. Take your mouse to the HTML code line and left click on the box to the right. It should start with Now head back over to gardenweb and type your message or response in this case. Where you want the photo to appear, right click your mouse and select "paste". A whole bunch of gobbly-gook (that's a technical term) will appear. That's your picture code, so don't delete any part of it. Click Preview Message and see if your picture appears.

If it doesn't, well, someone a lot more saavy will need to help you further.

Wallpaper can surprise you -- I've had it stick and tear up walls when I thought it would be easy and I've struggled to even get a corner to lift and then have it finally come of in large sheets. If you want to change it, you have to try it adn be patient. If it really tears up the walls even with all the tricks, then the best advise and experience I have is to treat it like part of the wall, float it and prime it with a shellac primer (like Kilz) to bond it to the wall (as if you need more) and to seal it. You can then texture, paint or paper over that. You want to do the removal or proper prep or you can have problems later. I've done it both ways and am starting a bathroom removal now. I primed the walls before the last paper was put up, so it's coming off -- just not in big pieces like I'd hoped. At least not at the start.

Okay, I'll admit up front that I don't know much about wallpaper, but I do know a bit about primers, and Kilz is neither a bonding primer nor shellac based (just oil or latex based). The only shellac based bonding primer I know by name is Zinsser BIN, and since the price of shellac has jumped, BIN is now around $40/gallon. Good latex bonding primers are Zinsser Bullseye 123, Ace Royal Sealing Primer and Benjamin Moore Fresh Start Superior Primer. Gripper, too, I think. Like I said, I don't know much about wallpaper, but if you really do need a bonding primer, now you know what to look for.

I like Franksmom's tip about taking pictures first! I did that before painting over the horribly patterned vinyl board in my bathroom, but I wish I had also done it before painting the ceiling in my kitchen/living room. In the midst of an aching back from painting overhead, I had a hard time remembering how bad it was and why I was killing myself!
