Motor home rental? Ok - maybe 2? Airstream trailer? Back to the land & buy tents?
Land & manufactured housing - some of it is like a trailer but there's some out there that is really quality looking - log homes, etc.

Good luck. Do you have to buy? Is there nothing, even small to rent temporarily? Something will come along, I'm sure. Congratulations on selling the house!

Maybe you can look in the town next to where you'll really want to rent/buy when something becomes available.

Have you enlisted the help of a Realtor in the area you are moving to?

If not, go online and look around and choose ONE and tell him/her what you are looking for and to let you know immediately when a client is ready to list something in your range to rent or sell.

I agree with Sue--you need a realtor and you need one fast. You have 10 days to find someplace. Maybe stay in a motel for a few days and work with a realtor during the day (if you have someone like your mom, sis, etc., to go with you and watch the kids, it'd be great so you could concentrate on housing).

I agree with Kathi, God will provide just be open to your needs being met in unexpected places. Just ask God for help and get out of the way!

Sending good thoughts your way. I had to live in a hotel while I was pregnant with my first after we sold our home and were waiting for our next one to be built (about five months). Dh worked in NYC and had to commute daily by train and I was alone most of the time during one of the worst winters on the east coast. We also had to live in the hotel with dd when she was a newborn for still more time. It was not easy, but we all survived.

Everything will work out ok. You should be glad that the house was sold before you bought another, because that is one less BIG worry to have.

Congratulations on having sold your house. I hope that you are pleased with the deal ... but houses in Alberta usually don't stay begging for a new owner very long.

danielle...we lived for 6 weeks in a 17 ft trailer at a campground within sight of our home-to-be...did i mention we had 4 kids and 4 cats, too?? lucky for us, we were right next to the bathroom (no facilities in a trailer that small, lol) dh was the only one who came and went in a business suit...

what i'm trying to get to is no matter what, you're together, and that's the most important thing. on that peticular move we'd been seperated by 3 states...

i'm glad you're not jumping into a house you really don't want. you just have to keep your humor, find a realtor who will work with you, and pray...it really helps. i'd almost given up hope on one move finding the right house, but a lovely woman i met put it into perspective, and the minute we turned it over, we found a home...funny how that works!

Cheer up! You're in a good position. You no longer have the stress of a house to sell and you're family will be back together again. Moving is always an adventure. You need to look at this like it is an adventure. Take lots of pictures and keep a journal as you have time or can make little notes. Have the kids draw a few pictures. Looking back in a few years, you are going to have a better sense of humor and a funny story about being homeless with cats, kids, and boxes of stuff.

You sold your house! That's fabulous, Danielle, I know that was a huge hurdle for you. I really hope the perfect home opens up for you just in the nick of time. And I agree, call some realtors. Good luck! You're young and you'll survive whatever happens, I have complete faith in you, kiddo!

With the size of your family, I would find the most comfortable hotel accomadation you could afford and stay there. Give the pets to friends to care for. I can't imagine stayng with people for that long as a family. At least in a hotel you'll be able to relax and do what you want. It won't be permanent. Congratulations on selling and a better family life! Try not to worry. Things will work out for you!

Sorry about not replying sooner! I had some trouble yesterday with certain children letting me on the computer long enough to answer emails and peek at the KT but that's it. Inconsiderate babies who don't nap properly! LOL ;)

Anyway, thanks for all of the congratulations and good wishes. It is so exciting to know that we only have one more week here! Yippee!

Now for the advice...motor home rental-too pricey...tenting it-this is early spring in Saskatchewan. We would freeze. There is no land because every lot is sold. Every lot. In the whole town. The "weekend" homes are an hour away and more expensive than a house in town would be. There is nothing to rent right at this moment and when stuff comes up it's snatched up in no time. I think there are people who troll the streets waiting for a rental to come up, LOL. I want Annie to go to the school in town so we have to live there. Also, Claire's preschool is there. All three Realtors know us personally and have all of our numbers and strict instructions to call if anything becomes available. And I so appreciate them for doing that.

Gosh Patti, I wish you were close too! I would love for someone to play with the kids while I just laid on the couch and read a book for an hour. That would be SWEET! LOL Having time to house-hunt isn't a problem, it's the lack of options out there. :(

I'm so sorry for your crummy experience Donna! We found out today that renting at the hotel is out of the question because it would be $2200/month at one and $1700/month at the other. *sigh*

I don't even know if the campground is running at this time of year. We don't own a trailer and our car is too small to sleep in. :D

I'm trying to see this as an adventure, and I was starting to think that staying at a hotel would be fun because I wouldn't have to clean, but darn. :)

There is no one who can take our cats as our friends are either saddled with cats of their own or they are highly allergic. The hotels in town are not part of a chain, they are privately owned and thus why they can charge a goofy rate.

Anyway, I appreciate every single person who responded to my thread. You are all wonderful and you are truly welcome at our house (once we have one) if any of you find yourselves in Saskatchewan. Thank you, thank you, and thank you!

Is there any vacant lots for sale?

Danielle, Congrats on selling the house. You said your husband's work is 4 hours away, isn't there any hotels, motels,inns, efficiencies, etc. anywhere from where you just sold your house from and where your husband works 4 hours away? It might not be ideal, but you might have to extend the radius of your search for temp housing. I wish you luck and hope something comes along very soon.

Isn't it nice to know the housing market is great someplace? Surely one of those four realtors will come up with something. Do you suppose the people who bought your house would let you stay for a couple of months--if you made the house payment? Probably wouldn't hurt to ask, even though it isn't ideal.

Quite interesting, the town that Danielle is moving to has literally run out of vacant lots to sell - the council is trying to reach a consensus on what other land could be freed up for lot spaces -
that's a pretty good idea patti, if the new owners aren't in a panic to move that would sure take the pressure off.
