Hello, I'm a newbie here and to taking care of my dad

Thank you for replying telling me how thing's are for yourself's. When my grandfather past away in 1978 we all knew it was coming, seen his health decline from heart problems. Grandfather was my first lost from illness and I was specially close to him. My granny, grandfather's wife lived 19 years past his passing away and I would go over and sit with her for a few hours, she'd talk of how much she missed him and was so alone without him. I was very young at the time plus busy raising my two young kids, didn't realize just how bad it was for her being without her spouse. Not only having to deal with her loss she also had to put up with my uncle her first born son, he wanted to put her into a nursing home right away just to get her out of her own home so he could do as he pleased. My dad and her would not hear of it and she wasn't ill nor was she having any health problems at that time. Later on in the late 80's she started going down but it was slow she started forgetting the great grand kid's names till it came down to not even knowing her own kid's names. My dad would go over to see her and she'd ask who are you...well, where do you live. It is sad and so hard to see and watch a loved one go down. My dad has his up's and down's. When he is feeling good he loves to tell jokes and friends of his beg's him to tell them. Here lies one problem: being that he does live so far 23 miles from me it is not easy going over everyday like I do. My own home is suffering some cause I cannot get around that good myself. Like the other day I left dad's house around noon time so I could come home and do some house work but I had a bad bout with my leg and foot, the pain was so bad that it kept me up at night, I could not get comfortable no matter what I did. I'm going to the doctor today to see if something can be done for my foot, It might be a spur in my heal. Plus my husband keeps me up sometimes with his snoring .... he's going for a sleep study tonight. My DH also has a bad gall bladder and will need surgery and we've been checking out trying to find a good surgeon for him. First one we went to had the personality and a wet noodle LOL, Really that surgeon left us feeling very unsure about letting him do surgery on my DH. It is wonderful to have an outlet an outreach like this where as long ago it was much harder to find someone to reach out to. Thank's again for listening to me ramble LOL

Hi there, and welcome. Congratulations on both your new married life and getting started on your new home. Be sure to check out the kitchen and bath forums too for lots of great advice over there, and don't be shy about asking questions and looking at the galleries of past projects. People love to 'show off' their completed projects and help with new ones around here. Gardening is my love too and I've learned by doing and made many mistakes along the way - comes with the territory I have discovered.

hello, I'm new....I'm hurt....

Hi Kmttsmom, Thank you for being kind. I'm really not trying to get a reaction or hurt anyone and I think I've stated it over and over, but it bears repeating. :) I'm hurt too, and confused at how my estrangement got to the point it did. Years and years of misunderstanding, letting things go when they really should have been talked out then, not feeling like I could say anything because it would be taken the wrong way. So I'm just trying to understand it from a mother's point of view. And it seems like a lot of mothers are defensive (that's ok, they have a right to be, but then they take it as I'm attacking) and words like "spoiled brat" come into the picture. I'm not, nor was I ever, a spoiled brat. I was raised one of the least spoiled people you would ever meet. No electricity, no television, catchment water, no neighbors. No Christmas tree, very few presents for my birthday. My mother never bought me a car, paid for insurance, college, rent, bills, etc. I had to give away my toys to more needy kids time and again. We recycled everything. I moved out at 14 to live with my dad because of her emotional abuse, and I lived pretty much on my own because he had to work 150 miles away and would be gone for days at a time. I walked to school a few miles away and walked home, did my homework, made myself dinner, and went to bed. And I forgave her in high school. I was able to put it all behind me and move forward. And I included her in my daughter's birth. And when she needed a place to live, I let her move in with me. And then I realized she was an energy vampire. She literally sucked me dry, blamed me for everything, took my friends and started to turn my daughter against me. And she walked all over me. Time and again. So, my defenses go up too, when mothers just say that kids just need to respect their parents, and "get over it". It's a very emotionally charged situation. I didn't come on here for support, I came on here to learn what others think. So I think part of the conflict is our approach to what we expect from this board. I'm shocked at being told to go away, that my opinion is not wanted or needed or valued because I don't agree and I'm asking questions. It seems it's either one way or the highway. And when I apply this to what women here are saying about their damaged relationships the correlation seems too blatant to ignore. I don't think anyone here is a "Bad Mother". The fact that people are even talking about it indicates that they are truly trying to be good people. I'm sure everyone on here has their good and bad moments, and it can be hard to judge emotion when it's in writing, without any facial gestures or other non-verbal clues. I guess this isn't the place for me to be asking my questions because it is seen as an attack, and I felt just terrible the past few days, because I feel bad that people are taking my words that way, and now I feel attacked too. Thank you again, for your very clear, from the heart post. I do wish you the best in your situation. No one should have to feel like this. ~Silver

Thanks for the welcome! I immediately went to check the soil pep when I read your comment. Luckily I didn't see any thing of what you describe, but I think I will screen it before making a big batch just in case. Thanks for the heads up! Also, the worm castings I am using is not what you see at the big box stores in the bag. This is literally 100% pure worm droppings with zero added compost or anything else. It's literally only a couple tablespoons per gallon. I'll attempt to post a picture of the bag from my phone. Therefore I'm still considering using peat in the mix. If anything, maybe I'll cut the compost ratio down to .5 making it a 3:1:1:.5 mixture. Will see.

Ole joyful: A hundred or so  oh yeah, one can never have too many friends.
Linda from GA: IÂve found a very comfy seat, thanks.
Glenda: peanut butter is one of my favorite soul foods!
Marion: You mean I have to bring my own chocolate?
Dirtyfingernails: thanks so much for the champagne!
Everyone: Thank you for the very warm welcome. Gardening is my addiction of choice. I love to cook, fish, kayak, read, dance, and sing. I am originally from Florida and donÂt miss it much. I am a single woman (twice, LOL). I would rather garden than most anything else I can think of, and grow mostly perennials. I recently tried to downsize and moved from a two-story house with full basement and double-car garage  to five rooms, no basement, no garage. But I have two huge flowerbeds. IÂm convinced that I am now severely deprived, and will start house-hunting next spring (hoping home sales are revived by then).
Again, thanks for the welcomes. I look forward to seeing you in the Recipes and other gardening areas.

A great big welcome from your former state of Florida! I live 4 miles inland from the Gulf-between Clearwater Beach & Madeira Beach.
I've had a seat at the KT since 1999 and you won't find a friendlier bunch of people anywhere. It's really like having an extended family.
So what state are you living in now? I read your post twice & guess I either missed it or you didn't say.
Since I don't really like chocolate, I'll be serving my Lemon Sponge Pie at the Table to Welcome you! See ya' at the Recipes forum.

Susan: chocolate covered strawberries! I call you a *real* friend (LOL)

McMann and Sharon: I am in Salt Lake City, zone 5, transported via my job, hating it at first and loving it now. Actually, I should say that *overall* I like it. That's because spring keeps teasing us right now, sending winter in its place. Tomorrow, 70 degrees, then 42 on Sunday. Go figure!

Sharon: Lemon Sponge Pie? I wanna get that recipe. It will be great with chocolate covered strawberries (grin).

Hi Ron: Thank you for pulling up my chair. You picked the most comfy one here. (We have to behave? Are you sure?)

Patti: Even though I donÂt miss the FL weather, I do love the horse country and youÂre right: rolling hills and *very* pretty. Shoulda had the beer and pretzels before the berries, pie, and cookies. LetÂs save them for afternoon on the patio, ok?

Deb: Those are my favorite cookies. IÂm stuffing them in all of my pockets.

Gneegirl: yes, I think TSL is a really good forum. So glad to know you.

To all of you whose names I didn't mention, thank you so very much. There sure are a lot of you here. How great it is to know all of you, and to be greeted so warmly. Life is good!
